I have noticed for us that we tend to get attacked more when we use our painted hull & sail verses basic. We tested it one night a week back. No one really messed with our sloop when it was basic sail and hull. Then a few hours later I changed to royal blue sail and black shark hull and we were shot upon. So now when we want to do some voyages we will just leave it Basic. Then when we are done we will change to painted hull and colored sail.
Anyone else experience this?
Hmm, interesting. Haven't tested this. I did forget to equip customization once, and was ignored by a galleon that sailed broadside past me at a good firing range. This was after the previous night were my wife and I were chased by 3 separate galleons, we did have our colors on that time. Not enough to qualify as evidence, but enough to make you say hmm.
Of course, maybe the one galleon that ignored me had to go to the bathroom and is unrelated, lol.
Either way, maybe it is a general attitude of mercy for new players, which would be kind of cool.

a lot of people make this error, me and my crew don't trust boats now with no colors for this reason, you don't know who's experienced and who's not. we did a test like this too, we dressed down went plain sails, his my PL title and weapons to basic, we went for a sloop with colours they came at us saying hey noobs we gonna sink you - safe to say they regretted that
Well, we have kept basic ship since our experiment and it has seemed to work. The weeks past I would change I colored sails and hull and we would be chased as soon as we left the outpost. And Sloops were more aggressive to us. We even had a galleon pass by another sloop with Basic to get over to us to chase us.
Just thought it was something to see if others experienced as well.
@purplemajic most of the time i dont attack pol i just defend myself and i bought those color to ise them so keep attacking me i like when free stuff come to me ^^
@spectrazy666 well, I don’t like losing my one and only, hard to find, rare black chicken. 😂😂 That’s why we have been going Basic so as not to take a cannonball to the face at the same time my chicken does. 😂😂

Yes, I have also noticed the attitude difference between default vessels and those with custom livery. Having said that, we have also been attacked by default skinned vessels of both sizes even at this late stage of the game. But that isn't as common, perhaps due to most vessels being painted now.
Somehow seeing a painted vessel sends off louder alarm bells.
@admiral-rrrsole Seems like 90% of our encounters have been with basic hull/sail ships. And that was before we started going Basic so we could do voyages a bit easier without encounters.
@purplemajic I think we all need to do whatever floats our boat. Pun intended. :o)
Whether that entails different approaches to ship livery or time slots played.
Want more PvP? Paint it up to look as menacing as possible then play during peak times of your zone.
Want to just sail and explore in peace? Then choose your play time wisely.
Of course not everyone can have much of a choice with work and other commitments and if you're not painting the ship or buying custom sails then what will you spend all of that gold on?
So I guess it all comes down to the luck of the draw with servers and who else happens to be on that same server as yourself.

@purplemajic generally if a sloop (and seems really to be 2 men sloops pretty much always) has no hull paint job and white sails they almost always try to chase or fire at me and my crew. I feel like I see more default coloured sloops than I do painted ones nowadays as well almost as if a lot of people are trying to look like a sheep so they can go full wolf.
@purplemajic it's an interesting experiance definitely but as an experiment you need a "control" and as different people could come and go into your server during a play session and every time you start a new session the populous is different I would say there is just some luck and randomness of who is on your server and their play style/mind set. Still worthy of a consideration though 👍🏻
