Trading and Refunding Items

  • The inherent problem with having only cosmetics in the game is that everything is subjective. So when someone spends thousands of gold on something that they end up not liking, all that time and gold seems like a waste. I have found three ways to make this system better:

    1. A refund system where s player is given gold for their purchased items if they do not like them.
    2. Trading between players so that everyone can get the items they want from each other.
    3. Once someone has bought an item, they can go back to the vendor and trade it for an item of equal cost (i.e. trading a sea dog jacket for an imperial jacket).

For me, this would drastically help the money system in the game which at this point is very lackluster.

I agree that buyers remorse can be an issue in SoT, especially since everything requires a lot of time to get. Not everything looks the way you thought it would when worn or maybe you change your mind as to how you want your character to look. Originally, I just wanted to get everything Admiral, but lately I've wanted to switch to Rogue Dog, but feel like I've already committed too far into my current cosmetics.

I doubt Rare would go for a trading for refund system since the cosmetics are a part of the end game and they would actually encourage people to change their minds and spend more time buying new cosmetics.

However, I think a compromise they may consider would be to have a way to preview the cosmetics on your character or ship. It would be nice to be able to select multiple items in shop and show them all on your character so you can have a final visual to aim for.
