    I enjoy programming, and I am thinking about pursuing it as a career. I have a rudimentary knowledge of UE4, Blender (the modeling software), and what it feels like to be bitten by a copperhead. I was looking at interning with Rare because Sea of Thieves is my dream game to work on, or just to do anything with... but I looked at the qualifications for interning, and I couldn't make heads or tails out of them. I currently live in the U.S. Am not in college, nor an undergrad or graduate program. I'm pretty sure I just violated all of the rules of applying, which are here:
    Who is eligible for an internship? Are international students eligible?
    To qualify as an intern, you must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme, or have graduated within the year the internship commences. In addition, you must have completed at least two years of an undergraduate course when the internship begins. We may consider students enrolled in overseas universities if they have the right to work in the UK or can produce work authorisation.

    I just wanted a second opinion on this and if it isn't possible at least at the moment, if you guys at Rare would have any suggestions for building a resume.

    @sico-drawesome internships unfortunately are usualy for students only.

    Why not try to get a fulltime job in the industry? Best thing to start with, is to build up your portfolio, to have something to show, besides a paper that says "he studied this, he's good". Create some short small games, get involved in the community. There are a lot of competitions, that you can sign up for. It might sound harsh, but the are so many people who want to work in this industry and most of us have a degree, you need to stand out somehow.

    I've been involved with games for over 17 yrs professionaly, but I was super lucky to even get a job this year, when I was looking for one.

    I've never seen an internship for anyone other than students. The whole idea of an internship is to provide students with work experience in their field either before or immediately after graduation. You're looking for a job.

    Software and game development are very competitive fields. It's not impossible to land a job without a degree, but as others have said...you really have to have an outstanding portfolio of work. Not only that, but you just plain have to get lucky. A large company is generally not even going to look at your portfolio if you don't meet the minimum job requirements.

    As a computer science student, I'm planning on applying for an internship at Rare for next summer. In the UK, you can not get an internship visa without being a full time student, having the company you will be interning with sponsor you, and proving that you have enough money to at least get you settled into the UK (950ish British pounds if IIRC).

    No problem! Don't let the answers discourage you. If you enjoy programming or messing around with UE, stick with it. Learning is never a bad thing, even if it doesn't end up as a career...and you never know what kind of doors it may open.
