So is this game worth playing yet?

  • I’ve been gone since a few weeks after launch I got to 30/30/30 realized it was just a massive boring grind fest and left. I love the idea of the game and for a few weeks I loved the game but not enough to do the same s**t over and over again hour after hour.

Did they make the grind less tedious? Did they give us more things to do, I only ask because I just seen a very interesting trailer while watching lol esports re run on YouTube was about cursed sails and something shores the latter looked very interesting but isn’t released till september so should I wait till then? Or have they been doing smaller updates to make it worth playing?

Sorry for lack of punctuation I’m on phone and lazy.

    Ty in advance

  • Same level as you and playing since launch. It is getting better but nothing has really been added content wise.

Mind you I am still enjoying the game.

  • No. It’s not. Mind numbingly boring, poorly planned out and repetitive activities still rule the day here. I only play for PvP and even that is pretty limited and becoming stale.
The tiny servers are largely empty, and when I do happen upon a ship, it’s usually a scuttlebunny.

  • I'd like to see someone scuttle for once, just to prove this behavior exists.

Over the weekend the only time I had 10 min without someone approaching my ship (unfriendly) when I was on an island, was at an active fortress (they seem to be less attractive these days).

  • As much as i have backed and stood behind this game my answer would be no as well.

  • Nope nothing meaningfull to work towards. Game doesn't start at pirate legend still as they said it is there is still no special ship for pirate legends to work towards as they said and there is still not legendary captain as they staited there is and still cant call it sandbox game as there is no way to actually manipulate the game with only to pick and put down chests

  • Your worth will depend entirely on you. Do you want a game full of content? Then no. Do you want a sandbox game with infinite possibilities(Impossible.) so no. Do you want a game about skill based PvP that requires the utmost timing to perform amazing acts that will grace the many videos of youtubes or the streams of twitch? Then no. Do you want a laid back experience with varied tid bits of exploration, albeit unrewarding at times. Working towards various factions to gain cosmetic enhancements or monetary gains to do the same. Do you want to work with varied crews to achieve your goals(Not your friends.) and deal with sitting in chairs? Then yes.

  • I was on close to four hours yesterday with a friend, sailed round most of the map, did about 30 voyages and saw one ship. And even then, they just sailed off into the distance.

  • Personally I’m waiting for the next dlc. Nothing here yet has changed that much. The 3 man brig should add some much needed variety.

@Admiral-rrrsole Remember that sloop that scuttled when we looked at them funny and bequeathed us a damn fine load of treasure?

People scuttle on me all the time when I haven’t even engaged them yet. But I always strategically approach other players too. I don’t just head straight for them. I’m all about PvP and that means positioning. As for that sloop I mentioned, we didn’t have any supplies left and had no intention to attack them.

It may be the time I play, late night/early morning Pacific time, but people are scarce, and the few available people tend to run or scuttle.

I don't mind a chase but scuttling just irks me to no end.

  • @roostusa

If you didn't think so before, then probably not. The weekly events have started up, but they're more small distractions than meaty content dumps.

At the moment it's finding the skeleton thrones and sitting in them to gain special currency to spend at the new faction, the Bilge Rats. The thrones can be hard to reach, most requiring use of the cannons and half of them require at least one pirate from another crew to complete.

If that sounds enjoyable to you, you could hop back in for that. But in essentials, it is still very much the same game.

I mean, I'm still having a blast, but if you've soured on it, I don't think it's different enough to change your mind. Maybe try again after July and Cursed Sails.

    Cheers mate. =)

    LOL! This!!

  • @roostusa You missed the hungering deep event which was a few hours of fun. At this moment the megalodon from that event isn't in the game but I assume sometime this month they are gona put it back in as a wild animal you run into sometimes.

The skeleton throne event is going on now where you sit in ten thrones hidden in the world 5 with someone from another crew 5 by yourself and you get a new currency bilge rat money. Until I think 6/26/18 you can buy a cool skeleton hat/coat/dress cosmetics with this currency. They plan to make more with this from the 'weekly events'.

This event is going for two weeks so I'm not sure about them sticking to the weekly events unless they are gona over lap them which I think would be great. Why can't the guy give more than one mission at a time? You can use this currency to boost a faction about a quarter of a level or to buy gold as well.

They have also added a lot of cosmetics to buy at the store in the form of clothing and a few ship hulls/sails. They also added a drum instrument, a new shanty, and a loud speaker for talking to random people at a long distance. They added flags to put on top of your ship as a mini decoration. You can alter your tattoos and scars a bit as well now.

All that said, if you left that fast, I suggest you wait until at least cursed sails dlc comes out in July sometime. It adds a new 3 man ship type and another new threat the skeleton ships to fight off. Also adds new cursed canonballs that should make weird things happen to the ship/crew it strikes. And that is just what we know of it. So that would be the time to come back I think OR if you are patient/don't care about time limited campaign rewards wait til september.

I assume at that time we will have boat loads of new cosmetics, the megalodon, a new area to explore that has volcanos, rowboats, maybe a couple instruments, hopefully a few new voyages to do or voyage alternatives to gain experience.

  • @revanjstone Even with THD... You didn’t have to actually follow the quest line. Grab 3 journals and fight a shark. If you could find someone willing.

You could finish the entire thing in a couple hours then there was zero reason to repeat it.

Whoever is designing their quests and whoever is signing off on these messes needs a stern talking to. I would have fired or at least demoted them because what passes for quests and voyages on here are just... Bad.

  • I love the game but I also don't really care about the grind or my levels. I'm 35,30,25 playing off and on since launch.

The fun for me is sailing, exploring, and interacting with other sailors. The quests are fill for when no one is around.

If you're creative and love the pirate roleplay, then SoT is an amazing sandbox to play in. If you want story driven content and Dev hand-holding then play when new content drops till you done and wait for the next content drop.

SoT in my opinion is the best in class sailing/pirate sandbox. The graphics and physics engine are fantastic.

Hungering deep was a fun couple of days and the skeleton thrones made for a good evening.

  • @mrgrim67686 I did the shark first haha got on with a friend was first thing I did. Did the quest on my own the next day to get the drum skin. I was ok with that though. Only change they have to make and they said they would is the replayability. That is crucial to help those who havent done it get help and make people enjoy doing the event more than one and done.

@MrGrim67686 I am pleased with what the game has and has been adding. But if he left that quickly after a few weeks, I can not suggest he come back. There hasn't been anything substantial enough to keep someone who was bored that fast. I feel by the end of the year there should be plenty of new things and hopefully reoccurring things added not just one and done type stuff. That will bring these kinds of people back. Whats here now would keep this guy busy for no more than a week and thats assuming the megalodon is in the game which its not haha.

I personally love the gameplay. As long as there are cosmetics I desire that is plenty to push me on. I had quit for a few weeks before they added the first big wave of cosmetics. I've been going strong since but now that I have bought pretty much all of them and got these new bone ones my reasons for saving up this gold are dwindling. If they don't stick to weekly events which it already seems like they are backing away from then I may be due for another break soon haha but I'll always be back.

  • @revanjstone

I’ll be giving people lead poisoning until this either becomes a real pirate game or until a real pirate game comes out.

TBH Skull and Bones doesn’t look all that compelling. I’m sure someone will copy the base of SoT though and make an actual pirate game out of it someday. Instead of the pretty pirate dressup simulator we have here.

  • @mrgrim67686 I love dressin up! haha Yah who knows maybe so. I can't get into the skull and bones as you are trapped on the ship. I want the ship and exploration. I think they will get it right in time. Its heading in that direction, just gona have to suffer the growing pains haha. A year from now this game will have so much else going on for it I am sure. They seem to be adding a lot and plan to continue doing so. I eagerly await the changes! Bring on the new lands, new enemies, new cosmetics, new voyages, new trading companies, new pirate factions, new ships, new weapons!

  • I've eaten a thousand Oreos, each one tasting like the previous. I look forward to eating the next.

  • @mrgrim67686 maybe find a new game or hobby.

  • @mrgrim67686

    Lead poisoning?

Nothing a quick trip to Dr. Ferryman won't cure! =D

But yeah, I'll count SoT a success if all it does is inspire more pirate games. One of my favorite settings and one woefully neglected by the game industry.

C'mon soldier boys, throw us buccaneers a bone or two.

  • @roostusa The only thing you are missing with hungering deep and skeleton thrones are TIME LIMITED cosmetics soo in my eyes its worth the couple hours to jump back in and get the exclusive stuff because when the events end you will never be able to get the stuff again

  • @marsmayflower said in So is this game worth playing yet?:

@mrgrim67686 maybe find a new game or hobby.

Thanks for the helpful advice but I’m a big boy capable of running my own life.
    Maybe worry about yourself, aye?

  • @messiahxxxx I totally agree. I have loads of fun every time I play. I always find it funny that all the complainers that say the game is no good keep coming to the forums and b***h about it. Any game I buy and it stops being fun I move on not whine on the forums constantly.

  • Stick to the weekly / bi weekly events for the moment mate. They're still working on it.

  • A friend asked me this the other day, I told him to avoid this game like the plague. I packed up my sailor hat and moved onto other games, I only come here now to look at the forums - and even that is now tedious to do because the forums get buggier by the day. I still believe the only reason this game was 'successful' is because of the great hype campaign they stirred before launch.

  • @scraps666999 said in So is this game worth playing yet?:

    They're still working on it.

They have been working on it since launch, me thinks thats a cop out and they should have just delayed launch to work on it properly. But they couldnt do that, the market said no the hype is too big to miss. Normally this wouldnt bother me because I get that its tough getting development out, but when you charge/claim AAA rating? That comes with a high bar of expectation.

  • If all you plan on doing is getting to 50 with each trading company then it’s still a massive tedious grind.

If you play it with friends and with no plan on what you want to achieve in that session then it’s great fun. Sounds like there’s not enough to bring you back though to be fair.

  • @crimsonraziel lol i see it all the time.

  • @draun25 So am I doing something wrong or something right?

  • Eather newbies tgat dont know or stubborn players

  • @mrgrim67686 ok, big boy.

  • @marsmayflower Sink you later.

  • @mrgrim67686 unlikely
