"WE'RE FRIENDLY" *Shoots person* What.........?

  • So I am a little confused & if someone could explain that would FANTASTIC...

What is the point in saying "WE'RE FRIENDLY" at the top of your lungs over & over only to shoot the person & sink the ship?

PLEASE CAN SOMEONE FILL ME IN ON WHY PEOPLE DO THIS!?!?! This has now happened 4 times since I have loaded in after the Skeleton Throne update.. & no I am not complaining or saying people should change their ways but why say you are friendly when you are clearly not? It's in some ways... Childish...

  • Why do pitcher plants have such sweet sweet nectar? 😂

  • Because they're jerks and this is Sea of Thieves. It's mostly a single galleon with a crew that trolls Shark Bait cove, waiting for people to latch onto the Megalodon quest.

Bottom line, unless you know the person, trust no one.

  • @helprestige they not be honorable pirates . That’s my only explanation

  • @helprestige to lower your guard and take advantage of you, obviously...

  • @helprestige

  • Look I can understand the lowering of guards but I am not one to do that, (been gaming long enough to know not to do that) I am also not one to shoot back unless you really get under my skin... I'm the chubby pirate who will just dance as my ship is going down... Also this was at Galleon's Grave, just loaded in & out of no where a Sloop comes by SCREAMING they are friendly.. Clearly I was by myself & clearly I was no threat, because I JUST LOADED IN...

With one throne being so close to this outpost it's extremely hard to enter the game from Galleon's or Dagger without a Sloop or Galleon being up in your face.. Another thing is too, camping outside these thrones has become a BIG thing & saying the same "WE'RE FRIENDLY" but the moment you are close enough BAM you're down to the Ferry.. I have one left to do which is at MA & this will now be my 6th time trying to go for it...

  • yea this is the issue i was saying before where you can tell people we are friendly lets sail together being exploited. it happened to me day 2 of THD before i knew the trumpet was an in game thing. cant really trust anyone using. i only give it a shot when someone is calling it out and i have no loot to lose. i get attacked every time for it. i usually just sit and they kill me and brag about it, bravo

  • Sadly, there are a bunch of jerks in this game. Even pirates (real pirates, not us, that would probably puke during a storm on open seas) used to respect parlays.

Sometimes I feel like this game should be called Sea of Jerks.

This BS is what making everybody paranoid. We fire first just in case...

Ppl should grow a pair and show their true colors right away.

  • @Tat-Lilac I won't lie... It has made me very iffy around people who claim to be friendly.. Because I am friendly & I swear by it. I prefer to make people laugh at my silly ways then hate me.. Yes I understand its a game & I shouldn't be too uptight or anything but I don't play the game to make enemies I play the game because its a game (believe it or not) that relaxes me.. But when that stuff happens it makes me see people as EXTREMELY childish & immature...

  • Hey man, we do that all the time.

We usually mean it ... but 'by friendly' what we actually mean is 'we won't attack you if you turn out to be fun and interesting'.

    Unfortunately, it's rarely the former.

  • @guybrushcrpwood How do you even know if the person is "fun & interesting" if they end up on the Ferry within 2 seconds of meeting...?

It is completely racking my brain trying to work out how people think that showing hostility before any other action will gain them trust or really anything from other pirates...

  • @helprestige Listen matey. We give people at least 20 seconds to warm our pirate hearts. And we sail right up close with a booming megaphone without firing a shot.

How much more generosity do you want?

Also, just because we hijack your ship, ram it into a rock, plunder your booty, and execute your livestock ... doesn't mean we aren't friendly.

  • I can tell you're a man/woman/person who has never played a survival game, like ever. The "Friendly!" thing kind of stemmed from DayZ or rather the mod that was DayZ and has become kind of a meme ever since. Don't ever believe it because once you lower your cannons, they raise theirs. Same applies to guns, knives, swords, axes, etc.

  • @guybrushcrpwood & in less the 20 seconds I could make you laugh your eyepatch off... (just saying ^_^)

But you see that isn't what happens to me.. There has been nothing but "WE'RE FRIENDLY!" then I am saying hello to the Ferryman..

I am always looking for other ships around me, I also have my chat on at all times & sometimes at randoms points I am yelling out my megaphone random stuff... As stated many times already I am a very friendly person unless you get under my skin, if you do that well, I don't forget a name...

@Kashaarafall Ehhh one I am a woman & two I have been playing survival games for a very VERY long time.. I am not young just saying... I have also played DayZ & know that is common but... When a game calls for others to work together saying stuff like the "friendly" thing is kinda.. Dumb... I would be MUCH more happier if people wouldn't bother & just say "taste my steel.." Saying the "friendly" thing won't put my guard down..

  • All jokes aside, we usually use it as a means of getting close enough to deploy gunpowder (or hijack a ship).

Occasionally it's sincere - but that's 100% to do with the current joint-crew quests. Combat is so rare that when an opportunity occurs, we generally cherish it (either for practice or pure entertainment) ... and we'd rather enter that conflict with a competitive advantage.

I believe Sun Tzu put deception at the art of war ... and he's not wrong.

We sank some chap's ship today, but he had no plunder. Instead we offered him a lift, kept him as a prisoner, and eventually did the thrones quests together. The sinking part just made it more special.

  • @helprestige 'I would MUCH more happier if people wouldn't bother & just say "taste my steel.." Saying the "friendly" thing won't put my guard down..*'

Maybe not you, but some people absolutely fall for it. Then again, some people also see through the ruse and lull us into a false sense of security.

Frankly, just adds to the tension!

  • @GuybrushCrpWood I can understand your point completely.. But there is my point if the person has nothing & you gained nothing then again.. The point is what? To make a person at first hate you only to slowly gain their trust back by doing something with them that you could have done on two ships instead of one.. Then oh I dunno caused mayhem together as a two ship fleet? I don't think I will ever see the point in sinking someone unless they really tickle my pickle the wrong way...

    1. How does the other ship know you have nothing?
    2. What if the other ship (like many of us) just enjoys the satisfaction of a kill?

Put yourself on the top of the food chain, and the predators might leave you alone!

  • @guybrushcrpwood You do realize they 3/4's of the ships I have come across I can see on their deck what they have nobody hides it... & again I can understand the thrill, I have been on a Galleon with friends before & yes sunk ships, but again there is only so much thrill in making enemies... & if you skim through the forums you will find I am not the only person who thinks this...

  • ...So if other players see nothing on your deck, they should assume you have nothing of value?

...And it's fine for you to sink ships, since you got bored of it, but not fine for others to do the same?

Here's the gist, sinking a ship is completely in my best interest. It stops them getting the jump on us. It makes them realise we're a threat to be avoided. It potentially provides loot. And, if none of the above applies, we get the satisfaction of the hunt.

If you don't get that, then I suggest the problem lies with yourself and your susceptibility to deceptive tactics, rather than other players.

@Kashaarafall When a game calls for others to work together saying stuff like the "friendly" thing is kinda.. Dumb...

Game design requiring multicrew engagement for limited time modes in an adversarial game is kinda... Dumb...
It’s like Rare has never seen or heard of the internet. Welcome to the future.

  • I agree that is dirty, but then again the game is called Sea of Thieves. It's like a game of poker, sometimes you fold because you have a cruddy hand but sometimes you bluff to your advantage. Personally, I like to fly the rainbow flag and raise the Jolly Roger as I approach, but my word is true unless you violate me.

  • @helprestige I'm with you on this matter.
Anyone who feels they need to put up a false front just to trick someone is obviously lacking in one department or another. Requiring the cowardly "king hit" or "sucker punch" as opposed to standing toe-to-toe (face to face) in a man's fight.

The other day we were helping others do the highchair events. During peace talks with another crew, I was shot off the bowsprit by a cannon ball.
Thankfully it was only one rogue player in the crew but he tried to harm us again and the rest of his crew brigged him for it.

I have been with some crews that just want to pick on moored boats for no other reason than "target practice" and some crews who want to start war with any boat they see. I am often the voice of reason but some don't listen to their crew and simply go ahead anyway.
I feel that this is where I should stop listening to their commands and the sound of running water below deck.

The captain made his bed, he can lay in it.

  • @admiral-rrrsole Aye, it’s a weak move.
I like my PvP but at least I’m semi-reasonable. I’d never do it, but it’s the Internet. These things happen. If we had larger servers with higher playercounts those players would be hunted and sunk mercilessly. Alas...

  • @guybrushcrpwood I never became bored of it.. But I never sailed up on a ship saying "WE'RE FRIENDLY!" If Imma sink you Imma just sink you... I'm not going to play nice if I am going to sink you.. It's backwards... & I don't see how the "problem" lies with me seeing as I am not the first to mention this NOR am I the first to point out how people can be backwards in this game...

@MrGrim67686 Pretty sure they do know what they are doing since the game was launched online before hard copy... & it isn't dumb when a game is TRYING to get you play friendly for once...

@Guarez NOW that I do see as a normal pirate thing... But acting as if you want to be friends then.. I guess you could call it backstabbing, again makes no sense to me..

@Admiral-RRRSole I am one to sail alone because of this.. I have made a total of two friends in the time I have been playing & that is now going on about 8 months... I never managed to do the Mega because just sailing near the island got me blown outta the water a good 20times... I would much prefer to go toe-to-toe with someone then do any of that...

    Sidenote
Most of the time it is just me & my tankard... I completely understand that the game is called Sea of Thieves but there is still a code, & clearly it says to settle disputes on the waves... Pretty sure a dock don't roll like waves...

  • @helprestige sorry if that line caused confusion "You made your bed, you lay in it."
I meant that to the so called captain that starts a war and expects his crew to do the mopping up after it.
Perhaps I should edit that. lol

... Pretty sure a dock don't roll like waves...

lol Okay now which is it?

  • @admiral-rrrsole Oh no I completely understood where you were coming from... Like COMPLETELY....

Hey man thats a deck & that rolls like waves well least when my tubby drunk butt is on it LOL..

  • Docked is still on the waves. That solely means to keep and settle your disputes in-game.

  • It's called playing dirty.
I dislike such tactics but there are no rules against it.

  • Weve all tried it and somewhere along the way decided if it was our style or not. Theres always heroes and villains, instead of picking a side in this game you play out your preference

  • It’s a cowardly tactic.

  • But from the perspective of the other side. Since as a solo player i will lose everytime to a crew of two or more, so i run with the sole purpose of waisting their time, sometimes running off the map even with cargo. They see that as cowardly. Sometimes i have to engage them, we all have our tacticsand not everyone agrees with them
