Kid friendly/G-rates servers?

  • Allow me to preface this thought. I’m a 38 yo dude and I love this game. I play as much as possible and although I’m new to online gaming I am not new to or offended by foul language and the adult discussion content that comes with it.

However, I have 2 gaming aged daughters that are 10 and 9. I would love to share this experience with them and teach them about this game we all love/hate. They ask me to play often and I am hesitant because I have rarely found a crew where F-bombs weren’t constantly being thrown out along with other conversation that is a little mature for my girls.

I know I can mute other crews and disable voice chat but we all know having a mute-ee on board is frustrating at best and often results in the silent crew member getting an undeserved trip to the brig.

What is the general consensus in regards to there being a kid-friendly or G-rated server selection where our young pirates-in-training can sail the seas without getting wrecked by advanced players and having their innocence lost from conversation that would make most pirate’s mothers blush?

  • @eric1371 well, I think ideally it would be a nice idea, but I think the fact of the matter is that boys tend to discover bad words at your daughter's age, and even if there were such a server (or series of them) they would require a lot of policing by staff.

I read these concerned and dissatisfied threads every so often making me think that there's a bigger and more lucrative market for a single player version of the game, where you and your daughters, or other people and their kids, can cruise the world and interact with AI as opposed to players who may have some iffy behavior or manners.

    Just my opinion here.

  • I agree moderating such a server would be a Herculean task as I know all to well that boys their age speak about as nasty as a drunk Marine at a bar (I would know as I was once a 10yo boy and a drunk Marine at a bar).

I guess it’s just wishful thinking but maybe an invite only or single player server would accommodate such an idea. It could possibly also quell the “PVE-only” crowd if they had such an option.

Maybe someone at @Rare-Employee has an idea about how something like this could work.

  • My 6 yr old loves this game but i have a good friend group that keeps it PG when hes on with them so im pretty lucky i guess

  • @eric1371 I think your best bet would be to scour the LFG groups for Sea of Thieves that have tags that meet your needs. I have seen a few that have the #noswearing attached to them. If you can't find one, create a LFG group your self with the filters you need. Have people come in and if they break the rules, give them the boot. That only solves the crew you sail with and not other crews I understand but it's a start. You'd have to use the other tools you mentioned like muting other crews.

  • That’s a good idea, thanks for the suggestion. Muting other crews and posting a kid-friendly LFG is probably the easiest solution for this type of situation.

There may be hope for my little scallawags yet!
