So there are some people out there that seem to think that this is another ploy to get people to work together (which is half true and I don't mind it, I love working over her with other crews). Yet the issue for them is that from what they understand is that with the Skelton thrones, you can only win 5 small and 5 large, where I had not seen any sort of limitation on how many you can claim.
Can I get some clarification? I want to see if what I had understood from the patch notes was that there will be 5 small and 5 large thrones per server, like there was one meg per server. There is no limit on to how many times you win said thrones, small or large. And there is no limit on how many dubloons you can receive from claiming the thrones.
Can we talk about the skeleton thrones?
@ladyszechuan What I have understand is you can unlock 100 Doubloons max with the Skeleton Thrones (future events may have 100 Doubloons each too for example) :)
So my guess are each thrones make you earn 10 Doubloons. You may be able to win the thrones you have already done but you won't earn something :)@ladyszechuan The patch notes did state that there are 100 doubloons you can get from the event. Not sure if that means per time you get all the thrones or if you are capped at 100?

I didn't get the impression that there's any "winning" of thrones. It's not a competition, it's about exploring, finding, interacting with, then sailing away. You get credit for each of the 10 thrones you interact with, and once you pokemon 'collect them all', you get a bilge rat commendation that rewards you with 100 doubloons, and you're done. I mean, maybe you get 10 doubloons per throne as you go, but that isn't important. You didn't 'win' Merrick's journals, nor did you kill the only Meg on a server. It's a simple hunt and find quest with some parkour.
@vilkatagrazioso well it could be looked at like winning, we don't know if we would have to fight skeletons, or other crews, to sit/win/claim the throne. I don't think that this will be like merricks "scavenger hunt" (lack of better words). With merrick, you found his journals and returned. But with these I think it's more than just finding it and calling it good.
@vilkatagrazioso that's why I have used all of the words of win/claim/sit the throne. And I never said anything about killing the meg, I just said that there was 1 on every server. So in assumption there would be 5 small and 5 large thrones on every server.
@captainnscurvy Ahoy matey!
Everyone that takes part will get the title and rewards... it's not a first come basis.
@captainnscurvy i think it would have a reset timer, after x amount of time another person/crew/crews can go in and get it. But the again i could be wrong and that on throne could be locked permanently to the certain person/crew(s).
It seems like there are 10 hidden thrones. You find them all and sit in them (some requiring you to sit with a member of another crew) and you get 10 doubloons for each one. Once you find them all, you get the commendation. Once you sit in one, I don't think you get doubloons for sitting in the same one a second time. Each throne is like a step along merrick's journal quest. Only reason to do it once.
As I understand it-
There are five small thrones and five large thrones hidden throughout the world
They are in hard to reach places that may require strategically firing yourself out of a cannon to reach
The first time you sit in each of the small thrones you are awarded ten doubloons
The first time you sit in each of the large thrones with another crew you are awarded ten doubloons
There's been no mention of "winning" or "claiming"
There's no cooldown
You just don't get credit for sitting in the same throne twice which means the most you can earn is 100 doubloons
Each of the new appearance pieces (hat, coat, and dress) is 20 doubloons@uhndeth so we won't get to fight skeleton crews to get to the throne? You just find it and call it good?
So it will basically be a scavenger hunt.@ladyszechuan said in Can we talk about the skeleton thrones?:

Yes. That's it exactly from what I have seen
Skeletons might spawn depending on if the throne is on an island, like they do already
But count yourself lucky
Originally there was going to be no reward for this concept
They were just going to put chairs in places that were hard to reach because they thought this playerbase would just enjoy finding a chair and would have fun taking pictures with it@rockinpodunk not really, the patch notes gave quite a few clues as to where they would be. (plus streamers will be all over it and everyone will know the locations of all of them just like it was for the meg scavenger hunt)
If there is no ai threat I don't really think a lot of people would do the event. The reason I had so much fun with the meg is because we grouped up to defeat it. I hated the scavenger hunt part of it, even though I do understand why they used it for that event. But for the skeleton thrones to not have any skeletons to fight would be boring and leave people with a feeling of not actually accomplishing anything.@ladyszechuan said in Can we talk about the skeleton thrones?:

This event though finally gives us some incentive to get out and actually explore, which is nice, rather than the usual, go here, find this, bring it there.
I know I'm going to try avoid having their locations spoiled for me, at least until the end date gets closer.
That being said, I also wouldn't be opposed to fighting off a couple of OoS style waves of skellies at each one, but I also don't think it's necessary. This is just something different to do until we get ghost ships to fight next month
@rockinpodunk for me I looked up the locations so I could blow through that part, I don't even know what the journals said. Just like how I haven't done riddles since the first week, I hate it (especially on the huge islands where you have to spend 30 mins just trying to find the one thing you need).
For the exploration part I get it, they want people to see what they have made, but at the same point I have already memorized most of the map, and have explored all of the unmarked island, and the non used forts, every cavern I could find. I know not everyone is like that, but there are others like me who have.
They should definitely have some OoS threats to make it challenging, or like i said people will feel like is wasn't as accomplishing@skulliah said in Can we talk about the skeleton thrones?:

There will be 10 thrones in set locations 5 small which require one person to activate the prize and 5 large that require other crews to activate the prize. Getting all 10 unlocks a title.

@rockinpodunk they could put up a platform type thing to be able to hold the structure. It's all speculation right now as to how it will be, but I'm really hoping it's more than a scavenger hunt. If not I probably won't do it.

I honestly think it's just going to be a scavenger hunt, for better or worse, but for me and my crew, that's fine. We will just play as usual, while keeping an extra keen eye out for thrones. As it is, every time a voyage takes us to an island, as soon as we get our chests or skulls, we always take some time to scout as much of the island as we can for random loot/supplies/GP barrels, so I imagine the thrones on islands will be easy to find, and if I find a large one I'll just make a note of its location and return when I can find a friendly crew
