I just had the pleasure of being repeatedly called: 'A [Mod edited] griefer' together with my crew.
My crew and I were sailing towards a fort when it got defeated. We saw a sloop there so we made a run for it and got there as fast as we could. They lowered their sails and sailed away to Ancient Spire. We tried to get on, they killed our crewmate and one of them was swimming to the outpost to sell the skull. Very well done on their part.
At this point there were 3 sloops and a galleon at the outpost, we were the galleon. A crewmate and I commandeered two sloops and went after the sloop that came from the fort. This was quite fun actually, the sloop owners in turn took over our galleon.
My crewmate checked the fort, they left everything except the stronghold items. I went after them towards plunder outpost. I got there a little too late, they had already turned in their chest. Good on them!
When I got there, though, this is what they send over chat: "You're too late [Mod edited] griefer, we turned it in". So I went: "Griefer? What do you mean?"
I got shot and killed by 2 blunderbuss shots as I was typing that. Anyway, we went back to the fort and got everything else. Wind was towards Plunder outpost, so we went there to save time. Their sloop was approaching us head on while saying: "[Mod edited] you griefers!"
Okay... hold up. That is NOT griefing, what we did is in every sense of the word: Pirating.
This happens quite often as well, people mistakenly take stealing their loot for griefing. It might be called griefing in Minecraft, where this term is most popular and stealing is considered griefing your base, but in this game that's being called a regular player of the Sea of Thieves.
For the love of Merrick, learn the difference between pirating and griefing.
p.s: We turned in the rest of the stuff :)
