Challenge coins

  • A challenge coin is a small coin or medallion, bearing an organization's insignia or emblem and carried by the organization's members. Traditionally, they are given to prove membership when challenged and to enhance morale. In addition, they are also collected by service members.

As a service member I would love this! You can make a drinking game out of it. You can add neat coin tricks. You can also use it as a type of straw draw. It would be cool to use it in gold horders or some sort of quest where you need each player to sport the coin to find the treasure. Just a thought love the game so far. If this comes to fruition I might p*e myself

Not exactly sure what you want to add here or why you think it would be a good addition.

That is to say would you have to earn/find these or do you just get it. Either way, what would this add? We dont have drinking games as it is and we already have riddle quests so this proposal would just be another step but with an item without any other in game use.

  • @rattlyfob you earn it through a quest for a faction. Or purchase it. It would be cool to earn it and you have the freedom to hold on to it or loose it or even drop it. Kind of like tossing it in the wishing well.

Service members use it as a drinking game. If you go out with your mates. If I present the coin and the last guy to present it buys a round or has to do some sort of grunt work like get another round or secure transport.

You could almost use it as a rock, paper, scissors type engine. That would be awesome to help settle what quest to do or who goes looking for the treasure or who stays with the ship.

I presented the idea that There is so much you can do with it.

For service member the coin is a pride thing. When you do a good job for something but they don’t want to give you a decoration they give you a coin. It is used as who has the coolest and rarest coin. So collecting 10,000 chickens could be a coin or defeating the megladon or kraken could be one. As a symbol of I did it. Oh yea I did I can prove it. See!

    Just a thought. I don’t know

  • Just including something like this with a "coin toss" mechanic would be nice. along with the "Dice toss". Simple tool of chance that players could use any way they choose. Getting different coins for different challenges would be an easy addition that fits with the cosmetics theme of the game.

Being able to pull out your Chicken King or Kraken Killer coin would be a fun way to prove your deeds.

    Upvoted.

As most people playing arent service members it seems like a pretty big stretch to assume that everyone will get it. Furthermore, you dont think its disrespectful to service members to arbitrarily add this to a video game?

I understand the dynamics of a challenge coin in real life. But why add it to the game, a game about pirates and thievery? Love the game but is it a good idea to associate it with service members?

Still havent convinced me how this would provide somthing needed in the game that exclusive/unlockable items and cosmetics dont add.

  • @rattlyfob it’s just an idea for a layer of game play would not alter anything

like how you choose to or not when it comes to grog. Some people love to drink it in game even though it is useless and play vomit tag in the game when they are under way.

Having a quick doin flip or Rock Paper Scissors style game would be fun to delegate chores and break up the monotony. Because this game is lacking something in between voyages and quests.

To be fair the challenge coin has been around for a very long time the us military adopted it as early as WWII. But has been around for way longer than that. So to claim would the service be mad or upset I doubt they would not even notice. And I doubt veterans would be salty about it since you know it’s just a game....

Think of it as a war trophy you can flaunt besides having a fancy jacket and hat or gold guns.

And if people don’t get it then see what the community will do with it. I bet they will do some hilarious stuff with it.

You don’t have to agree I am just throwing an idea out there. And I accept you don’t think my idea is a good one. Lets face it Rare has its hands full and this the last thing they want to work on.

My point has been that there is no reason for this. A coin flip or rock paper scissors wouldnt need a challenge coin, and the game already gives you commendations and tittles as "tropies" or bragging rights.

Again... why would we need this added.
