Long story about a Fort-fight and a not-spawning key

My gf and I where making voyages on a sloop like we do every day, then a skull appeared in the sky, it was Keel Haul Fort, and we started to go there. As we came near it, we saw a galleon staying there, we sunk it and started doing the waves of skellies...while doing this another sloop arrived and we sunk that too...
As the galleon came back again we were a bit inattentive so while fighting the galleon the skellies on the fort sunk us and we died too...we didn't spawn that far away, so we decided to go there once again...on the way we took a few supplies with us so we aren't completely broke of them
As we arrived we sunk them again, and that incredibly fast, OMG these guys where bad, also I saw just 2 of them...as we moved on the other sloop came back again, we waited cause we had not many cannonballs...the skeletons shot at them and a few seconds later the galleon arrived again.
We thought this is it now, but the galleon fought the other sloop, so we said let's try finishing the waves of skeletons and right then the music for the Fort-Captain came up...the galleon is still in a chase with the sloop a bit away...
We killed the captain, but what's that...at the spot where it died no key spawned! We searched around it but nothing...and the galleon came nearer...i told my gf to stay there and look, maybe it spawned somewhere else, i leave with our ship
As I thought the galleon chased me...when I got away from the fort far enough i took the speaking trumpet and told them the key didn't spawn...i guess they didn't believe me cause they're still chasing and shooting with the EoR
My gf didn't find it, so she came back with the mermaid and we decided to scuttle, cause of the senseless chase...so we did and also got on the galleon to talk to them, but they didn't listen, just shooting us (we would have killed them if we wanted to)
Then our ship spawned at Mermaid's Hideway and we headed to Keel Haul Fort again to see if the key is maybe around somewhere
As we came nearer the galleon anchored again at the Fort, so we stopped in a cannon-range and shot ourselfes over and said: "We don't want to fight, just talk about what happened..."
Now they listened and didn't fight...I told them we killed the captain but there was no key, then they started looking everywhere for it
I tried to show them the spot where we killed him but they didn't care anymore about us...so I looked once more there (it was on the outside of the Fort, right by the wall), I looked on the floor, nothing...I looked higher to go ahaid and leave and for a blink of an eye I saw an x-button to pick something up...I thought: wait, what was that...it was the key, hanging there in the air where the captain died
I muted the mic and told my gf next to me: "look what I found...you stay here, I go for our ship and drive by"...so we did and left, still seeing the galleon from far away just staying there
After a voyage we came back to get our loot with no one disturbing us...
So when this happens again and someone tells you the key didn't spawn, let them show you the spot, maybe it's just a bit higher in the air
