No rewards for beating the Megalodon.

  • I jumped into a solo sloop game and went to wait for a galleon at Shark Bait Cove.
The galleon arrives, I hop onboard and it's all smooth sailing. But in the last two minutes or so of the fight, I get killed. I spawned 20 squares away from the galleon.
I saw them sailing towards Merrick to get their rewards, so I jumped on their ship, but once we got to Merrick there where no rewards for me as I apparently hadn't slain the beast yet.

It's not that I don't wanna fight the shark again, it was just a pain in the a*s for me to find a crew to play with.
So yeah. Stay alive in the last parts of the fight...

Well, maybe attack the Megalodon with a cannonball at least ONCE?

Do the Merrick Questline too, don't be a lazy leech.

  • @sweltering-nick Hit more than 10 cannonballs and did everything in the Questline.

  • @parz1val04 ur mistake was to not bringing ur boat at least to dont respawn so far away

  • @parz1val04 So you already have the shark hunter title available in the clothing shop, the drum, the speaking trumpet, and the Tattoo?

Do you have a Shark SLAYER title available, the Shark BITE scars and the Hungering One Figurehead?

Thing is, when i defeated the megalodon, i was lucky enough to land the killing blow, but all the crews i was with got kill credit, even the people on the sloop that died and got sunk, they met us on shark bait cove later.

Hmm... it could be because your Sloop wasn't within radius of the Hungering Ones spawn area... Maybe it's credited to all the SHIPS that were present during the fight, not players?

So all you'd need to do is get YOUR ship within the T26 square, during the fight at some point, AND do damage, to get credit? Just a hunch, my game-sense be tingling, lol.

Alternatively, try hitting the Hungering One with a pistol or sniper when on another crews boat, seeing as THEIR cannons don't count as your cannons.

  • @sweltering-nick
I already have the title, drum, speaking trumpet and the tattoo.
I do not have the Shark Slayer title, the scars, or the figurehead.
If it depends on your ship being within the radius, then lots of people must've had this happen to them. I often see people on youtube ditching their own ship.
I also hit it multiple times with my guns.

  • @spectrazy666 Yes, but it was the final minutes of the fight. I should have still been credited since i did just as much damage as everyone else.

  • @parz1val04 Then ensure your ship is within the Hungering One's spawn area, and just to be safe, land a cannon shot with YOUR ships cannons.

If you still have issues after these suggestions, submit a bug report to rare via customer support tickets... Because posting them on the forums does nothing to help anyone, just fyi.

  • @sweltering-nick Thank you. I'll try this.

  • A few misconceptions about Megs. I've beaten her 8 times helping club mates from my Xbox club for SoT. So I'll impart a bit of knowledge learned from experience

    1. No one actually needs to play the drum to summon her. We did it 2 nights ago with only hurdy gurdies and concertinas. You only need the song that you carry over from Merrick.
    2. If you are not part of the ship that the fight is happening on, ferry your ship over to T25 and park just outside T26. Park it in a way that you can fire yourself back over to the main ship if you die. If your ship is somewhere else, and you die and spawn out of the encounter area, you will not get credit. Doesn't matter how many shots you landed.
    3. I don't believe you actually need to hit Megs to get credit for the kill. One of my crewmates did nothing but bail water and repair, and he got kill credit. From my experience, you just need to be in the spawn area when megs dies to get credit. But, just to be safe, you can shoot her with an Eye of Reach just to be safe, it will register a hit on her if you shoot her with your sniper rifle.
    4. Supplies are key.
    5. If she charges when you're fighting her, if you get a shot or 2 directly in her mouth before she hits you, you can "stun" her, and she does next to no damage to the ship.
Hope all this helps. I've volunteered to run it several times with my crew if someone came to us for help. I usually fly the shark hunter flag to try and signal that I'll help out if needed.
  • @scottstixx Thank you for all the tips.

Do you have some advice when it comes to finding your fifth crew mate?

  • On my second attempt to hunt the megalodon to help a new player, we entered the combat zone the moment the beast was slain and we received credit for it. I believe that if you are playing solo, you have to be alive when it is killed. If you had a second crew mate present, it would count for you.

  • @parz1val04 only thing I can recommend is lfg if you don't have a static crew, and if you already have a galleon set up. Just sail around the map to ships you see, fly your shark hunter flag, and use your best diplomacy. Dont be too aggressive with your sailing. We got a kill for a club mate just last night doing that. We sailed around, kept our distance and used the "megalaphone" to ask if anyone wanted to do it. Just so happens found a sloop crew that hadn't completed it. Waiting at shark bay, or t26 is a waste time.

  • Also, don't be afraid to use pirate bargaining. Farm up some captains chests, or villainous skulls. Better yet, get skull fort loot. Bribe another ship to help you. You can farm skull forts and loot whenever you want, this event is time limited. Offering me loot to run it would be a sure fire way to get me to do it again if i was busy doing other things.
