Server wide form of communication?

  • Don’t we really need some way to at least send basic messages to any/all players on the same server as you? This would really go a long way toward allowing us to “create our own adventures”

    Examples:
“Any solo sloops interested in a yacht race? come to golden sands... winner will receive a captains chest”

    “Kraken’s lair PVP mini-tournament”

“Eye of reach target practice? Come to Plunder Outpost”

The speaking trumpet barely makes much difference over proximity chat it seems, compared to the size of the map.

From the menu screen you should be able to send a message that all other crews or players can see, or at least be notified by a sound that a message is delivered. Of course, the option could be added to mute it all if that’s how someone wants to roll.

Or to make it more immersive, it could be only available on the wall at taverns, or it could be sent/delivered by pigeons to/from the captains quarters.

  • @loopct I like the idea of tavern notices. You post something at a tavern that instantly gets shared to all other taverns, and persists until edited, removed, or the literate pirate leaves the server. It could even be a relayed message directly from the innkeeper/bartender ("Oye! I's gots a message fer you!" or 'Ey, matey, did you hear...?") that gets spread as local gossip! 🙂

  • @loopct Settle down, you are making Rare look bad as if they have hardly had any ideas since .... well, ever.
So much potential unseen by them. Like inventing the wheel but not knowing what to do with it.

    Great ideas, man.
You could also include those wanting to work together against the megalodon.
I'd also like to add the ideas I've suggested a few times about crew recruitment notice boards and classifieds (the buying or selling of unused upgrades where players could haggle over a price).

It doesn't all need to be done at the tavern either. Notice boards can be placed anywhere on wooden posts around the outpost.

So many missed opportunities almost everywhere you look in this empty sandbox.

  • I agree with tavern notices too, completely - that would be very cool. If you want to communicate something you have to go to a tavern, and then it would pop up on the noticeboard in all the other taverns. Then you'd get used to checking the boards when you log on.

This noticeboard system would also allow for players to create their own bounty system, offering warnings and rewards... which could be abused, but in a good way...

And it would be the place to add our own treasure maps,if we get the ability to do that...

On the other hand, I would really hate to see server-wide instant messaging though - that would kill the atmosphere, and the current text chat system.

  • I do quite like the carrier pigeon idea too... if you know the name of another player on the server you can send them a message from across the map... "Thanks for stealing our treasure - we will now hunt you down like the dogs you are".

  • Or even "Thanks for the loot - we've left one of the chests on Lone Cove, good luck finding it!"

  • @moomintroll

Haha! Great ideas running along with the carrier pigeon concept!

  • @moomintroll

Yes, it needs to be done in a way that stays immersive for sure.

Yeah, I’m still hoping it will come to life... the potential is there. Since it sounds like the weekly events will also be adding new elements to the game, they might be just as impactful as the “medium” THD update, or even more so if the basic gameplay is enriched.

The game really just needs more player tools as opposed to any more “content” for now, if you know what I mean... like give us more basic things such as custom fillable treasure chests, and we can do soooo much with that, vs a giant shark.

Then we can really get on and make our own adventures like they want us to.

  • Another thing this would allow for is a player could set themselves up as the target of their own treasure hunt.. stash a few chests somewhere on an island, and then let the server know where they are, or do so by means of some clues.

Isn’t this the kind of this that Rare wants us to do? We just need the basic tools to do it. a bigger map, or a bigger AI enemy update don’t the biggest need the game has.

  • @galactic-geek thats a really good idea

  • @loopct
Im ok with this as long as i can turn the notifications off

  • @nwo-azcrack

    Of course!
