An Observation

  • Some of the things said in game are cracking me up.

When my crew has no treasure, we are pirates, if we see an opportunity to take treasure from others, we do so. When we have treasure we are no longer pirates, we are merchants whose desire is to sell our treasure.

The fine print is of course exactly how much treasure qualifies the shift in priorities.

When we are acting as merchants, we are not chickens running from a fight, we are merchants doing everything in our abilities to make sure we sell our treasure and you get none of it. If we out run you, we win, you lose, if we out maneuver you, we win, you lose. If we avoid combat and get to port and sell our treasure, we win, you lose.

Or goal is not to win a fight, our goal is to sell our treasure, if we do so, and you get none of it, we succeed, and the pirate failed.

The funniest time was when we got to port ( still being chased from afar ) sold our treasure, and then turned on the one chasing us, the prey became the predator. They were freaked out that the ship that was avoiding them for so long, suddenly became a threat.
