A New Major Island

  • I suggest Rare add a new sea that instead of having several small islands like the current seas, it has one big island. This island could have rivers going throughout it so ships can still sail closer to the different locations. Those locations could include an outpost and a fort at different places on the island (probably near the shores). I think this would provide a unique, interesting location that's different than the rest of the sea of thieves. And the rivers would provide a very different type of sailing and close-quarters ship-to-ship combat.

  • There is a big island already in the lore too. When you first start the game with a new pirate you have a map in your inventory. It shows a larger land mass outside of the sea of thieves called Isla Mosquito!

I want to explore that place!

  • @player112635126 be careful what you wish for. In a river situation you could really get trapped by a ship in a narrow bottle neck.

  • @coel03 I think that could be cool. As long as it's only a few narrow sections of river and most of it is wide enough to turn around.

  • It says "Sea of Thieves", not "River of Thieves"

  • @schwammlgott There's nothing wrong with a different type of ship play in a single section of the whole sea.

  • @harlton-cheston Sounds like a jungle/rain forest region. I am intrigued. Strokes beard thoughtfully

  • @player112635126 yes, but there wouldn't be any chance of getting away with a sloop from a galleon, cause there are only two ways to go, and if the wind is sideways you're just a prey for them...i think this would brake some dynamic of the game

  • @schwammlgott A sloop could totally get away. There's no canons on the front or back of a ship and the sloop has much more maneuverability to navigate the narrower rivers.

  • @player112635126 i don't think that would work that easy...imagine the galleon is coming nearer and nearer-you make a quick turn and try to get away the other way-two of them jump on board, one shoots, or even worse two jump with gunpowder in your way...that would be so easy to do...

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea somehow, but it wouldn't work that well and would also end up more frustrating than exciting...

  • @schwammlgott Galleons already have an advantage against sloops in the game as it is. There are plenty of strategies sloop crews could use to balance the engagement on a river.

Me too. I found an image of the map on google:

Seems like Isla Mosquito is the staging point for pirates looking to enter the Sea of Theives. It also looks like there's a continent to the north and possibly to the east? Actually, this map makes it seem like the Sea of Thieves is surrounded by other lands on all sides except the west.

  • @coel03 maybe this is how the row boats happen

  • @harlton-cheston If that is the case and it is the starting point to getting to the sea of thieves, that might be where the Unfired Pistol is located. That is the bar that the Pirate Lord founded in the comic series. And where the crews start in the first issue.

  • @twiladerp

Ah, I haven't read the comic yet. Very interesting... sounds likely!

  • I love it! a long river or lots of intertwining rivers. Only the strongest and bravest could survive and make it to the mazes end!

  • I would appreciate that if/when they grow the map by adding more islands....it would be nice if they were uncharted.

We would need to explore beyond the known edges of the map and scout out these new, unexplored islands and add them to our maps on the ship.

Exploration is severely lacking at this point, as all islands are charted and named. By now we even know which ones are good for finding certain things.
Having new locations be completely unknown, uncharted, unnamed; would redeem the exploration and adventure aspect.

  • I'd like to see a huge island as well. Maybe a hidden part at the centre, could use the row boats to hull over more then 1 chest. With a crew it would be smart to keep an eye out for an ambush. The river would lead to an open lake with the port on the beach.
