Purchasing Inventory for your Ship

  • Hello,

Not sure if this was mentioned but I really wish we had an option to purchase inventory for your ship instead of having to spend alot of time looking around to stock up.. For example, the lady selling the ship customizations for your ship on the dock, we can use her as a vendor..
I wish their would be options like purchase full /max inventory for x amount. Or purchase bananas, planks, and cannonballs separately for x amount..
I think this would be a great addition to the game for players who have gold to spend and dont really feel like consuming alot of time searching to stock up.. Especially if a Raid/Event is going on, you dont want to miss the opportunity to miss out or lose time preparing. Just purchase up, assemble your crew, and then good to go!

  • Part of the games balance and cost/benefit analysis revolves around the collection of supplies. Buying supplies not only ruins player consequence but it also will bring up unintended problems with skull forts/never ending ship battles.

I instead think a new crate should be designed with smaller storage than the world crates, maybe 10-15 slots. Those empty crates could then be bought to make supplying less tedious but still important.

The well-prepared should rightfully be rewarded, because they.. well, prepared.

  • @tunasandwichsxm I agree with you 100% it's is normal from since the 17th century to date. Vessels berth and speak with a shipwright/ dockmaster to replenish to supplies. This should be a mandatory option in a game that caters towards open world voyaging and naval warfare. The game is grindy enough for loot and level increase. We should not have to be as primitive as monkeys searching for bananas. Even donkey Kong has a shop you can buy stock. Furthermore, I feel cannon balls should have different options such as tar covered cannons that can light ships on fire and burnout sails. Stop or slow boat on a Chase. We need more naval options!! Arrh fire in the hole! Dere she blows!

  • @gloog i would like to buy stuff, gives gold more of a purpose. Rare needs to fix ships battles... add health to ships or make it so holes take longer to patch after so many hits. Loading up the boat is tedious

We all would 😉 but that wasnt the point

  • @gloog wasn't the point never ending ship battles? You also said it might effect consequences.. if you can only buy at an out post and make it a 1,000 gold per max then i don't see the negative effect of it paired with rare fixing never ending fights

  • @gloog But the game is already a HUGE time sink. Simple solution: don't respawn ships at outposts OR spawn new ships on the server with full supplies and keep the current system.

The game takes long enough with paltry payouts without having to tack on an extra 20-30 minutes digging through the trash like a hobo.

We aren't playing a game where the ship battles/damage are more than rudimentary. So in the context of the game we are playing, we can't be allowed to buy resources. Despite its tedium, it's a depth and decision making killer to do away with supplies. This game is all about make decisions that'll lead to consequences.

Consequences, as in, 'oh we didn't stock up enough to handle this next ambush'. On the more opinion side, I enjoy that supplies actually matter. Being stocked is comfortable and being low is nerve wracking. Lastly, buying supplies would mean every ship is always stocked... So why even have the option to buy supplies? 1,000g is dirt in a game of pure cosmetics.

On the other hand, being able to buy supplies or server-hop to get fresh ships with full supplies upsets the current PvP balance, since it either heavily favors veterans with hours of time sunk into the game (and gold reserves to match), or it encourages fort-hopping, which is already frowned upon by the community.

I would strongly encourage your crew to stock as they play. It's really not as exaggerated as you make it.

  • I like it.

  • @blam320 It may be frowned upon, but it is the current meta. The wider community hops like electrified bunnies on m**h. I just can't tolerate that much loading screen. Ugh. ...and I want to dominate "my" server.

I mitigate the time sink somewhat by just grabbing one round of stuff then hopping onto islands while hunting to grab stuff and mermaid back so we're always on the move with as little downtime as possible. Sole exception being forts for happy fun barrels, bananas and cannonballs. Empty pockets between barrels.

    We do. See above. lol
Still a giant pain in the rear and time adds up. This game requires a massive time investment, and not everyone has that.

I mean 1,000 gold per item max so 3,000 total... to someone like myself who barely has time to play that is a lot of gold and would make me consider when to max out. If i only have time to play for a half hour why would I spend that kind of gold? If I get to play for 2 hours i would happily spend the gold so I don't have to waste time looking for junk I may or may not need.

Like I said before adding something other than cosmetics to buy might actually get me to spend some gold. I've been playing since launch and have 70,000 gold. Never spent a penny cuz idc what my pirate looks like lol.

Every game has decision making but by no means is this game "all about" it.. it's a simple game where one of the few core mechanics is drinking grog....

The point of the game is to have fun and the fact of the matter is walking around an island and looking for planks, bananas and cannonballs isn't for me. Adding an option to buy the c**p would let me enjoy the game more.

When it comes to time, oversupplying is just as bad as undersupplying. A ship can do a full voyage on spawn supply alone and a ship can engage with another ship on the initial outpost scavenge. Two hours+ is only the initial outpost + a floating barrel, so long as the crew drops off all supplies prior to each island and loots. That isn't close to 30 minutes.

I suspect your crew isn't all pitching in equally based on you needing to supply jump. I've only had to do that after a huge fight when another galleon was coming to fight.

My perspective is from a well bonded crew. So I assume with randoms its nightmarish.. if that's where you are coming from?

  • @gloog I just don't want to sit at an outpost all day, I want to go kill ships so we snatch and run. Best supplies are enemy supplies.

  • The cost would have to be alot higher. I would be ok if it was 3K for 50 of each supply, you could only buy 1 set of supplies per game day per outpost.
