Pickpocketing - a way (piratey) to deal with AFKers

  • A suggestion to make people think twice about AFK'ing.

Allow other pirates to attempt a "Pickpocket" interaction.

Pirate A (the thief) must stay close to Pirate B (the victim) and "interact" for 5s, Pirate B is then warned of an attempted pickpocket. Pirate B then has 5 seconds to respond (mash a button) to stop the pickpocket attempt succeeding.

If successful, Pirate A gains up to 300 gold from Pirate B - this can happen over and over again, draining the AFK pirates coffers and allowing you to recoup any gains they got from a voyage they didn't take part in.

  • I'm going to p*e come back to be minus 600 gold...

so what I can't p*e now there would need to be a clause in play for instant if they are afk for 5-10mins or something.

Also what happens if said person doesn't give care about gold since its not really needed. "Rob me I'm broke anyway" attitude... I'm at 1 million so I'm just saying....

It would be way better to nerf a reward if said play was not involved in help in a voyage so the system would have to be able to determine if said person did any dmg in a skull voyage or run distance in on land in merc/gh.

If you trust your crew then that wouldn't happen. If they don't give a monkeys about gold why are they AFKing? Just for rep?

Your job on the voyage may have been look out on the ship?

  • I see three issues, the first one is that you do not have anything to recoup since the payout is the same as no mater how many players there are so nothing to split and nothing to recoup. So you are asking Rare to put a price on how much the stolen "slot" is worth and that is not the same thing.

The second one is if some one pickpockets then does the gold go to that individual or split by the crew? If its only the one then how is that fair against the other players?

The third and the most serious is that this not only affects AFK since the action only takes 5 seconds. Any one not looking at the screen could become a victim instead and people would start abuse it instead for "easy money" by joining randoms and try and steal and you cant kick him away either.

And how about them just going away quick for a break or if the phone rings?

No this won't work at all.

A pickpocketing action will give you a fixed amount back, but it will need to be balanced - it's effectively a punishment.

Only the individual - otherwise you can take turns farming loot. Fair? It's piracy - negotiate with your crew.

10 seconds, 5 to do, 5 to react

You're sailing with a bunch of thieves.

  • Trust your crew bahahahaha if you are playing random or even a crew setup threw game hub then you simply can't you never can, barrel blowing up, driving away with loot, throwing loot over board and leaving just some of the trolling I've seen.

  • To be honest closed crews will make this "not a thing" if you've got mates.

  • Picking pockets in essence is an interesting idea. Picking locks would be great too.

Pretty much anything that allows to disarm something would be neat; pulling levers, sit on pressure plates, throwing projectiles into holes to trigger a response.
