Historically Accurate Ship Customization?

  • I love that we're seeing more customization options in game. Though, I must say that I'm not a huge fan of all the purple and gold... It just doesn't scream "pirate" to me. And I don't really get the whole "navy" vibe from purple/ gold sails and ships either. (I do really like the grand admiral hull on the Galleon. To me it looks the best out of the whole lot so far. But putting the same paint job on a sloop just turns the whole thing yellow. And cursing around in a bright gold/yellow sloop really doesn't do it for me.)

That said, wouldn't it be cool if we could get some other options that are more historically accurate? I would love to see a black and yellow paint scheme like the British navy ships in Pirates of the Caribbean, Master and Commander, etc. A black and white scheme would be cool too, something to match the black and white Sea Dog coat perhaps? Seeing ships and sail patterns based on historical fleets of the time would also be awesome. (i.e. Spanish, French and English ensigns and hull paint patterns.) I don't know about you, but I for one think it would be pretty epic to deck out a ship like Captain Salazar's 'Silent Mary' and go pirate hunting! And I know a lot of people are wanting to see an all black option as well. (I mean, come on. It isn't a pirate game until you have the 'Black Pearl' sailing the seas!)

So what are your thoughts? Any color patterns or sail designs you want to see in the game?

I'm always up for more color options, but really I'd like an in depth ship painter where I could paint my main sails, secondary sails/sloop canopy, hull (primary and secondary), trim, and railings separately with colors of my choosing. There was a thread made in the feedback forum that covered this pretty extensively.

On an unrelated note, is the censor blocking out the word best? Because I've seen the same thing in several threads now.

  • I second the black/white option. I'd also like to see light blue w/ brown trim. As for decals, there's LOADS that I'd want. Storm clouds, the Gunpowder Barrel crossbones symbol, a mermaid, a red/white medic cross, the circular Merchant's logo, dice and/or poker cards, various gemstones, a crescent moon, a seashell... Just to name a few.

  • Different colors are ok but i like to see more detailed skins for the hull and the sails.

New hull, rotten hull, damaged hull, different wood types.
Or that crusty stuff thats on the underwater chests. Hows that called ?

    Different shapes for that sails.
    Oval, triangle, ragged.

    So much possibilities.

Yes. I pointed this out yesterday (in an admittedly ironic way). The thread is now locked but they are looking into the filter options.

    Back on topic...

I would just love to see more customisation in general. And maybe some different ship layouts. Just slight variations so that if someone boards your ship, they don't immediately know the entire layout.
