Not once since game release has i been atacked by outpost campers.. I have on the otherhand chosen to deliver at other outposts since ive seen mermaids in the water or ships on the backside of the island.. Yeah.. i do circle the island b4 delivering good loot ;)
Look for mermaids! I went to golden sands saw 2 mermaids jumped overboard with a castaway chest sold and 2 guys rushed out and killed me.
I respawned on my ship and turned in at the next outpost.

@jediknight129 I'm sorry bud, it's very easy to see how experiences like this are ruining the game but honestly neither the game developers nor the players of the game actually want people to have a good time, or even play the game altogether. #BeMorePirare and stuff.

That’s funny because someone tried to camp an outpost on me today but I had situational awareness.
I enjoy having other players try to steal my loot.
All of the people playing and enjoying the game have learned from our failures and mistakes.
The two guys camping golden sands didn’t even get my garbage chest.
If you use your brain, skill, and some ingenuity you won’t get suckered by weak tactics like outpost camping.
I like this game because of the dangers of interacting with other crews.
I don’t want a game that is already balanced and easy to become easier.
I play against other people for a challenge. I bought this game because you can imagine and implement so many tactics.
If you don’t enjoy the game maybe it’s not for you. I love it, and don’t want the tension and challenge nerfed.

Cool. I'll @ you on the closing servers post when it happens and you can tell me then again that this game is we not for me.
Lol ok, but that will be a minimum of 2 years from now.
This is a Rare game, but it’s also a Microsoft service. Microsoft has Azure and no shortage of servers. Microsoft’s servers can adjust dynamically.
TLDR: you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Anytime any day I can find a good group and have a blast in a populated server.
You should try to get good. Personally I prefer Chess over Checkers so don’t try to turn a game many of us love into something even easier than “tic tac toe”.

In my entire time playing this game, I've only been outpost camped once, and that was due to a server shutdown. I dont see why so many people complain about this.
Regardless, just keep your eyes peeled and be ready to fight at all times. If you suspect someone's camping, sail around the outpost looking for any stray mermaids. Make sure you're ammo is full and you have full bananas before leaving your ship. Gotta be prepared for anything at all times. There is no "fix" to this issue. You just gotta stay on guard till the booty's turned in.
I just spent an hour trying to do a mission but being camped at an island by a sloop and a couple of PC players who had four or five gunpoweder kegs and kept jumping on our ship to sink us.
Bit tough to do both a level 45 skeleton quest and keep professional griefers at bay, especially when the skeletons only seemed to come for us.
A fine way to play the game but clearly within the rules of Sea of Thieves and seemingly very much welcomed by Rare.
Solo sloop and not noticing a mermaid might create more issues for the soloist overall. But that hinges alot on not noticing a mermaid and thereby choosing another outpost. Another difficulty rests in of we're discussing merchant quests which, again for a soloist could be bad news.
I'm not here to gripe in favor of the soloist, just stating opinion and perspective.
One of the biggest issues I've had with the game is uneven PvP - I almost never seem able to predict how any given PvP match will go. Some of this is skill based, either for or against my issues. But IMO a majority of my personal face to face losses... rise from synchronization issues with the server.
I had one experience where my ping jumped within seconds from 70's avg to 400 then 800 then back down. The result, possibly on my end (doubtful but true), was I perceived the target of my aggression taking a hit from a medium range sniper shot (hipfire) 3 sword slashes - a possible fourth that showed a hit marker but no body animation on the target) a sword thrust no banana break and still lived. Then my teleporting from the unmoving ship several short yards off the bow.
That day I say my ping - though I reported the potential hack issue - the team commented to me that it was highly expected to be lag driven. They didn't remark where the ping issue itself arose my or their end.
I've had other experiences where my lag/ping was not an obvious factor and continued to hover about 70 which is it's own issue but at least it was stable.
Instead my 1070 nvidia driven laptop that exceeds all recommended specs exceptionally and runs the game without vsync at 90 fps... will drop remarkably to the low digits even as low as single digits then spike back up - capping to 60 fps with vsync does the same - dropping resolution and graphics to atari 2600 mode heh... same issue. The response? Though I percieve players in one space.. the amount of hits I mark on on them does little to nothing... but 2 quick sword locks and im out cold (as it should - my point is Ill hit them as much so or more and they wont die). Again a sync issue with the servers IMO since I am certain my PC can handle SoT... the farme issues literally ruins the game to unplayable standards on some days.. not all ... but some.
This creates uneven PvP ability from me - recently my crew and I walked through 10 ships in a single session.... the next night? I couldn't fight my way out of a paper bag with holes on each end! (Which of course, anecdotally, was the first night I ever teamed with a legend and wanted to impress upon him my capability so not only did he have fun playing but I wasn't looked upon as a scrub - which despite his generosity.. I'm sure I was... I was embarrassed)
Then to top it off these fourtunate cheeseballs were spawn camping - we'd still be black screened and able to hear their sword swipes before we'd even load in... we'd load in ... sword locked and dead...
So with uneven PvP based on system issues/server issues, the potential to simply make a mistake which meh.. might server a player right I guess.../ and in view of soloists not always being perfectly lucky (I almost NEVER solo so again I'm not some soloist advocate)... I really can see the point the OP is trying to make.
But sadly, this can be mitigated by multiple approaches:
Group play (Obviously) to assure you have one player, at least, acting as body guard and likely taking point as you approach a seller.
Situational Awareness as noted above.. sorry mate, I'm prior military, I'm all about watching your ascot and keeping keen senses/Wits about you!
Or even selling the "garbage loot" first, perhaps even assuring you have garbage loot before you sell (Buy a quick chicken crate or something)
Or... speed drops such as I have done, yes even solo, where I assure angle of sail is pointed away from rocks at a middling speed, jump over, sell an item - that way even if you die your ship wont get boarded and sold asap as you spawn.
There's alternatives I missed I'm sure... approaching from the wrong side, I've done that, and so on...
I get the OP point... and I am sympathetic..
But it is really part of the game, even if despised.

Why does it always have to come back to PC players? Even if you are dead-set certain by sitting in the same room as the alleged "PC players" don't you ever experience this sort of game play by Xbox players?
As a PC player (who is part of the officially recorded 14% of SoT playerbase) I could sit here all day complaining about Xbox players who beat me.
Even though it was based on the first month of SoT, that figure means that 86% of Sot players were / are Xbox users, which is a vast majority in any language.
There are no advantages / disadvantages for either Xbox or PC players to climb their mast or drop gun powder kegs on your ship. So why assume that they must have been PC players?
@admiral-rrrsole You are totally right. There's this culture going around right now that if anything is happening to you that is considered griefing, bad sportsmanship, cheap or frowned upon then it must be PC players.
I'm an xbox player but I really despise the message some people are sending by labelling PC players in this way. Players who do these things do not represent the communities of their respective gaming platforms.
It would be great to see people using much more accepting, positive and inclusive language that doesn't alienate any particular player group.
That way we can strengthen the SoT community and provide a solid foundation for constructive discussion.
@admiral-rrrsole
I didn't assume anything, I found out.
Oh, and when did I complain about getting beat? I complained about being griefed by guys not doing a mission but camping an island to continuously kill players who were doing a grinding quest there.
I might as well mention it again and not in the megathread but with optional crossplay, we might have not faced them.
Glad I could clear that up for you, @Evasive-Envy and the 14% who are getting the PVP advantage but not as integral to the success of the game or paying monthly to play Microsoft games online.
#RaiseThatTankard
@vexed-anemone Okay, I'll retract that you assumed them all as being PC players.
The powder kegs can be an unfortunate part of the game.
To me these people (or at least whomever taunted you on the ferry) were simply being jerks.
This and the initial powder keg damage is regardless of which means they use to play the game on. Unfortunately such people exist in both worlds, PC and Xbox.
You must admit it was a detail irrelevant to your complaint in this thread.
I hear you loud and clear about being left alone to do PvE voyages, I try to be "the voice of reason" when I'm with a crew who want to "crush, kill, destroy" everybody and anybody in sight.
Micro$oft have spent a lot of time, MONEY and effort into developing "cross-play", although I personally don't have an issue with giving people the option to toggle it on / off, however I wouldn't have met and made friends with so many cool Xbox players if they all switched to "Xbox only" mode and it's very doubtful that Micro$oft and or Rare would back pedal even a little on this.
@jediknight129 Ahhhhh yes. Outpost camping or in other words, being a thief in a game named Sea of Thieves. Just use the force Jedi. You will feel their presence.
@jediknight129 When I'm bound for port with a lot of loot I always look for the mermaids. Sometimes their mermaid could be on the other side, plus I'm a solo slooper, yeah when I'm in a crew i send someone to scout but 80% of the time I'm solo.
Paranoia is your friend. Maybe even fire a few shots at the gold hoarders tent, or towards the Order of Souls to see if you can even get a hit marker. If you get duped, don't quit. In the sea of thieves, avoiding thievery is like not getting punctured after diving into a hay stack with a billion needles.
Don't think like a thief? You'll be at the disadvantage of a thief.
There's 6 outposts in the game.
There will be one without a player on it.
I do understand your frustration and believe me, I've been there, too.
Cleared a fort yesterday with a buddy and literally after picking up the key we got hit by a canon ball, both die, spawn on the opposite side of the map - free loot for the other guys.
Also yesterday I messed up one maneuver and got knocked off the sloop which had about 20 Captain's chests on board.
I was furious (actually still am a bit), but I have to admit: it's the same rules for everyone. When live gives you lemons, trade them for limes and make a Caipirinha from it.
Keep you head up and see you soon on the seas.
No, please do not try to change the game just because it needs some skill at some point.
In order to avoid / handle these situations:
A) Observe near ships and try to predict their motivation
B) Do not approach outposts directly if there are other ships around. This way everybody watching knows that you have cargo and might act accordingly (intercept, approach from astern, approach from the other side of the island, populate outpost, etc.). Keep your distance, sail towards nearby islands / wrecks and be patient. And please do not just stop / drop anchor and wait for a clear outpost. This just tells the currently unloading evil pirate two things: 1. the ship is loaded with cargo, 2. the player is unexperienced - hence: sweet prey. If you can, just set sails to another outpost or use the time to get some more cargo, fill your barrels etc. - but you should always look busy.
C) In some cases it might be necessary to approach an outpost, while somebody is following you. But even in this scenario there are a couple of solutions, e.g. Silent Overboard: Set a save course (if you are a solo player), sail pass the pier, jump from the ship with your most valuable good, dive and sell it, then use the mermaid to get back, repeat if necessary. Btw: Jump towards the bow. The follower may fire crew onto the outpost island, when he notices your little overboard maneuver. This is great, especially since 1.0.7 (no name plates underwater)
There are tons of other things you can do to prevent others to get your stuff. But in general: Just play the game, get some more experience and you will notice that you won't get robbed anymore.
Well, and just in case I am one of the guys who robbed you: I am not sorry and I will do it again, if you let me. "Arrrrr" :-)
I was describing how we were getting griefed and I said it was part of the game. I don't think that's irrelevant.
I also included something about the skeletons chasing only me, though I think that was just me being unlucky.
The powder keg can be dealt with, unfortunately the PVP disadvantage means they can more easily spawn camp at the bottom of the ship and kill us as we try to fix.
Over the lifetime of the Xbox console (17 years), MS could have spent less money by simply allowing their console to use a KB+M, but they themselves know the problems this would create and that they'd face calls to separate those players from the controller guys. So they don't.
This is why their experiment with SOT is coming at a cost to the SOT community and Rare, who will 100% lose players on this title and may see servers shut/scaled down if profits drop too much. MS have a history of dropping companies/partners not making a profit for them.
I too have met many friends which is why I 100% support crossplay, it's superb. But this is MS trying to move PC gamers away from Steam and it stinks.
If crossplay was their real intention, it wouldn't have been an exclusive and they'd have worked hard to make it crossplay across all platforms.
Maybe they won't make a change but console players need to continue making noise about this issue or stop playing/paying. The crossplay disadvantage is costing SOT players and that's not good for anybody.
@vexed-anemone Thanks! Yeah that makes sense and I understand your concerns!
Have fun on the open seas!
