Very happy about the GT not showing in the Water. Now the OTHER "give away" when youre around....the Mermaid. Its a pain when you swim a mile to a ship JUST to hear "Hey theres a Mermaid over here!!!" and have your "Sneak Attack" thwarted by this Pesky "helper".
I think itd be helpful/better if, say in the Radial, there was a Conch Shell to "Call a Mermaid" when you NEED it instead of leaving a Smoke Trail from reappearing every few seconds following you like a Lost Puppy. Just an Idea to help us in the Pirate "S.E.A.L." division, if you will lol
Conch Shell "Call a Mermaid" option.....
@xgodkevin I like the idea and I don't camp outposts. In a fight with other ships, I may have the chance to go overboard with a keg attempting to hit a pursuing ship. Once my ship is far enough away, the mermaid pops up and the other crew knows someone is near. That's when I'd like the option.
In my scenario, I'm probably going to die anyway so the mermaid isn't really needed at all.
@xgodkevin WHERE does it say "to camp"?!?! We (The Parrotheads) NEVER camp. BUT we do a "drive by" maneuver where we will sail past a boat (on the Seas, NOT at outposts) and have a crewman swim to them with a "Special Gift". Most times, as stated, this is from a good distance away. All yinz "camper criers" need to realize/remember/relocate...Realize-there are PIRATES on these waters, Remember-to Look out for Ships off shore and send a Single Recon to Outpost first before Docking, Relocate-to one of the MANY other Outposts on the Seas. Yinz cant blame players for being Pirates (fair or not fair) when all yinz gotta do is PAY ATTENTION and don't forget there are OTHERS on the Waters. Campers can be avoided, yinz just don't and run to the forums when someone acts like a PIRATE and steals yinz stuff.
@Capt-Poky-PH smoke and mirrors sir. the main reason for this is for those who want to camp outposts. GG
@mattydove74 said in Conch Shell "Call a Mermaid" option.....:
They can't see the smoke.
I realized I actually put that after I hit Submit. But smoke or not, our crews are ALWAYS on the look out for mermaids/things in the water. Just think its a waste to have this thing following you around when your NOT trying to get back to your ship. Think itd be better as an "Option" that's all.
And if any of yinz "its so you can camp" cookie cutter responders would like to see, please feel free to sign up. As stated we Parrotheads never have, never will camp and yinz are free to sail with us and see. We are Pirates, plain and simple. We don't sit and wait for Trouble/Loot, we go out and MAKE trouble/loot. Im sorry yinz encounter these players, but please, do NOT assume everyone is a Camper. You know what they say when you assume something right lol
@capt-poky-ph i didn't say you were camping, i said the main reason to have them the way they are now, is camping.
@xGODKEVIN I could get behind that... outposts and forts automatical, other than that, have the option.
@sir-lotus I guess that doesn't cross my mind because I don't do it. I certainly see the point, though.

Camping outposts is a pirates right, i mean we dont cuz why do that when u can do athena missions and make a ton of money in the same amount of time than maybe, possibly running into 1 ship cashing in a few things while waiting hours at a random outpost but its a pirate game. If ur smart u can send 1-2 people to an outpost before u cash in (like we do) to check for and kill campers while ur ship circles the island
@simplybutta I'm not arguing that point. If you can do it in game and so can everyone else, so be it. Given the suggestion in this thread, I do see the point of not making the mermaid a called upon feature. Nothing more.
That said, I'd be alright if a mermaid had to be called and wasn't automatic. There are valid points on both sides, IMO.
@xgodkevin said in Conch Shell "Call a Mermaid" option.....:
only way this would work is if it did NOT give you the option while in the vicinity of or ON an outpost. It would have to be automatic as before. WHich still leaves other islands available to camp without detection.
And what’s so bad about a little stealth gameplay? If they made it so the mermaid had to be called with a limit or timer this would help make ship combat much more satisfying instead of the ladder boarding mermaid teleporter joke it is right now.
And camping players only have one life, it shouldn’t be any different than camping now unless you just are dumb and unaware of your ability to look around without a smoke signal telling you too..
And if there were places or times when it wasn’t allowed at all that would be cool, no camping just to have a teleporter backing you up.

Exactly my point and scenario. Not needed, aint going back, leave it off screen.

@a-cranky-eskimo like everyone will play this way you explained. Gimme a break.
??? What? I never suggested anything about how people play just how dumb the reasoning is that some are using to defend the simple, broken, and lacking ship combat we have, and how simple solutions could allow improvements/changes to be added without anything being ruined except things that should be improved on, like the lack of repercussion for death or the use of unlimited mermaid teleporters.
These aren’t the designed uses for these mechanics, and they aren’t mechanics we should be defending rather than trying to fix the combat.
@a-cranky-eskimo remove mermaids and watch what happens. This forum will be full of complaints on Outpost camping. You are blind.

I said in some areas, and okay bud 👌. People would actually probably camp less because their ship would have to pick them up, especially if they localized spawns based on where a player died.
@a-cranky-eskimo your point is dumb. Take away a visual aid that shows people camping an Outpost. Yet you say people will camp less. Your opinion is stupid
@a-cranky-eskimo here is a good example of a well coordinated Outpost camp we did before a server shut down. 2 ships, one Outpost less than 20 min. And this was with mermaids. You want to get rid of mermaids. Come on, use your brain.

Lol. Ok. So if camping players can’t just teleport back to their ship if the rest of the crew needs it, people will camp more in your mind??? Sure maybe the people who scuttle their ship to do so, which is also an unintended use of a game mechanic, their body is also a visual aide, send a scout ashore, problem solved.
@xgodkevin said in Conch Shell "Call a Mermaid" option.....:
@a-cranky-eskimo see above video
I don’t need to, Ive camped an outpost or two and have avoided many more than that, your opinion isn’t any more valid than mine. If there were 8 people there I would have seen one and left, I don’t need a flare to help, sorry that you feel people need that flare more than they need improved game mechanics to improve the quality of ship combat.
They could easily just add in a feature where if you are at an outpost for 10 minutes you are considered a “camper” and would get a longer respawn when killed
If you tried ambush a ship.It should come down to skill
And awareness, not ability to spawn and teleport to your advantage. The mermaid needs a fix and your babbling and calling my opinions dumb, when all I said was if a player needs a flare to tell them to check an outpost they are dumb, dosnt change that or prove your point.@a-cranky-eskimo so now you want a 10 min timer to label you a camper. Do you read what your typing before you send? You apparently can't comprehend this. GG

That’s why I put it in quotes genius, it would just be a way to make outpost camping more dangerous for the campers... a debuff or whatever you call it not an actual label lol.. I can’t comprehend this??? L**o dude... talking to you is like talking to a brick wall..
@a-cranky-eskimo your use of lol's and air quotes are cute. Your argument is moot. I'm pretty confident they won't add this lack luster feature. Your beginning to bore me. Try harder.

Your the one failing to troll me, you try harder lol. Wish I had run up on that outpost you camped, would have ended differently.
