Skeleton Fort Exclusivity

  • I think Skeleton Forts need to somehow be exclusive to players rather than all players being able to come along and mess up other players hard work. My friend and I spent ages defeating almost every wave of skeleton, only for 4 other players to arrive in a galleon, sink our ship and sail off with the fort treasure we worked hard to earn. I think like GTA5, we should get the option to play online with other players, or be able to play in a private room with purely invited players only. At this rate we'll never complete a pirate fort

  • @heatfanstu Forgot to mention, that with red dead redemption there is an option to host an online private session, this is what I'm basically suggesting for Sea Of Thieves

  • @heatfanstu
"spent ages defeating almost every wave of skeleton"

Found your problem. Forts take like 10-15 minutes if you're doing them right.
Keep an eye out for approaching ships or listen for the cannon towers, tho it might be a bit late by then.

  • It's designed to be the PVP draw of the game I'm afraid, so it is just down to hard work and perseverance.
It's been said before, it isn't clear whether Rare even expected folk to do the fort in a Galleon on their own, let alone a duo sloop.

  • When I go slooping with a friend I expect to lose the fort. 4 People in a Galleon have a better claim on it, They're bigger, have more numbers and the loot will be for 4 people in stead of 2.

Want a better claim on a skullfort loot you'll need to go galleon or get really good. I've however never seen a sloop win a fort when I'm on a galleon except for when a really smart sloop player takes advantage of 2 galleons fighting to take them both out but that's rare.

Best bet is to see them coming take your sloop out to sea and try to either barter with the galleon crew or jump them when they're not expecting you.

  • Team up with any local sloop you find.

I was frustrated with forts because I'm always on a sloop - but I always offer to share the fort with a sloop in the area and together with various sloops - I've started finishing them - even when a galleon "tries" to show up.

  • Skullforts are simple. Defending them isnt. Stop trying to change the game because you lost at it

  • @endosku11 you "offer" another sloop to make it together? Haha, i offer you to leave us (sloop) alone on the fort or we'll sink you 😉

  • @hoppentosse I'm aware of the risks involved. I just think it's great to have an option like you get in GTA to host your own private session, a little bit more variety. Not everyone wants to use a galleon that's their choice, so why not give us a bit more options. Thanks for the abrasive feedback though, proof that there is always one......

  • Don’t forget in gta5, you can create your own session but you cannot do everything in. If you wanna the same in sea oh thieves, ok but in private session you cannot do fort or quest for earn money.

  • Skelly forts should spawn outside the play map, they should be instance based and once you sink you are locked out.

  • @mcdougle99
Who would ever sink in their own instance?

Forts are great as is. I just wish more of them would activate.

instances are not private. literally the opposite of what an instance is.

  • The only ajustment I want to see to skull forts is the spawn timer. Make it 3 hours in stead of 4. I'd even say 2 hours but that might give too little time left for other quests.
I often play at 20:00 and have to feed my kid at 23:00 so there's a good chanse that a skull fort either doesnt spawn while I'm playing or it does in the later hour of my play session so I have to quit before completing it.

Also I'd love to see them exclude the server for entry when a fort is active. I've noticed that people abuse the private group system to server hop to a server with active fort. (4 people each make their own private game alone and see if the fort is up, when it is they all join that person) a simple fix would be to make it so new players cant join while a fort is active encouraging players to not server hop. (I love logging onto a server and seeing a skullfort up so I'd miss that feeling but since the closed crew patch I've seen a huge increase in galleons doing the fort).

  • @heatfanstu That's life, my friend. the game is like that. It is not a game to take walks on the beach under the light of the moon holding hands singing songs. I do not know what fun there may be in what you suggest.

  • @heatfanstu Sorry, but you've been outplayed, you're just gonna have to get over it. The clue is in the title. It's a backstabbing pirate world... that's what makes it so fun! High Risk, High Reward.

I solo'd a fort a few times now, several times I've been pounced on by a galleon and lost the lot... other times I got away with all the loot and those victories tasted sweet!

Check your horizons, plan for visitors... if your in a sloop forts will take longer to clear so expect other ships... do some voyages... if no one turns up in that time maybe its an empty server (happens a lot). DONT expect the game to carry you through, and try not to get so upset when pirates steal your stuff... as I said, clue's in the game title.

  • Did we sink your sloop? We pulled up on a sloop that had cleared fort and they told us "you will never find the key". 2 minutes later we had the key and were on the way to cash in.

  • @offense7 lol had the same thing with a Galleon yesterday.
Was at a fort with 2 Galleons one with a Spanish crew. The Spanjards were pretty good and killed the other galleon, we fought but we had low supplies so made a tactical dicision to resupply at a nearby shipwreck while one of our buddies stayed on the skull fort island to find a barrel and sabotage. The Galleon pulled up on the fort and left a lookout. Sadly for the Spanjards their ship was too far from shore to get to quick and our buddy made short work of it with a single barrel (they were also low supply and hadn't fixed their top deck) they sunk but told our friend we'd never find the key they just hid while their ship sunk. Sufficed to say we found it in under a minute.

  • I feel your pain but this game is all about the pirate life!

I do feel sorry for those who like the game but aren't quite up to fighting a well-organised or aggressive crew. If any sort of 'closed session' feature was added in the future like GTA then I think it should have much less reward than the proper servers (less than half the booty). Part of the fun of Sea of Thieves is the constant jeopardy of there being other pirates in your world that could steal your loot.

  • This can't be allowed. No closed sessions either. Either get better at the game or find a new game to play. It's getting a little ridiculous seeing everybody complain. I've knocked out 27 forts. Only 4 were with the Galleon. Most were contested. I've had ships pull up on me countless times some have muscled me out some I've destroyed. I've also set back and watched the island skeleton cannons Crush them. Have I rage quit? plenty of times. But then I say "oh well that's what this game is designed for". Then I cut it right back on.

  • @hynieth to point out that skull forts are possible with sloop, just gunpowdered a galleon while on sloop, they didn't repair, and we took their key when they were on last wave

  • This would be BORING

  • "I think Skeleton Forts need to somehow be exclusive to players rather than all players being able to come along and mess up other players hard work"

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, nice joke, ok now where is the actual suggestion?

I dont think you're taking it far enough man. They should change it so that only YOU can do skull forts.

You weren't in a stock galleon by any chance were you?

  • oh snap...i think that was me and my crew that sunk you lol

  • Er.. Um.. I may have worded that wrong.. um... yeah...

  • I actually understand your pain, me and my crew sailed yesterday around doing skull missions why a sloop was easily fighting for ages, we rolled in and sank the guy as the skull fort went down (got the key) collected loot. I felt so bad we took all his loot we left him a trinket on the beach to say sorry. but we did as pirates do made off with the loot and cashed in....poor guy

Why stop there ? Why not ask to have the amount of skeletons reduced so you don't waste so much time. And we could make it so the captain dies in one shot. Double the treasure too so you don't have to do do many. Cut the price of all the items in half so we can buy twice as much...

  • Oh boy another one of these.

If you decide to tackle a skull fort, you better expect company. Exclusive servers aren't gonna happen.

I don't understand why so many people are hung up on "Doing work for nothing" uh you realize this is a game right? It's not work, it's fun. Do you really need treasure handed to you to have fun? Why not just take the challenge and enjoy the fight win or lose? I've lost fort treasure right at the outpost before. Yeah it's frustrating but that is what makes the game fun. Lighten up, have a grog, and sail again.

Our ships should just spawn with loot. So people can scuttle over and over for treasure. I mean let us play the way we want right? 🙃

  • If there were more open world
Attractions like forts for players to seek out or stumble upon I bet this wouldn’t be a problem as much, forts are one of very few at the moment.

I don't consider PvP to be a problem.

  • @heatfanstu you do know the reason why a fort is highlighted by a BIG SKULL IN THE SKY right ?

It is simply the fact that this is done to make people come to the fort, either friend or foe.

This is not a PVE only game, and these raids are made for people to meet up in either a friendly or hostile manner.

As stated here before a fort should not take more then 10-15 minutes to defeat and you still have to make sure that you can defend your ship whilst fighting at a fort.

I fought and won forts solo, duo and full galleon al the while sinking any ship that came in the vicinity.

Neither do I, i should have worded it differently, but if there was more to do forts wouldn’t be the hotspots they usually are now is all I meant. I’m sure they would still be but not to the extent we see now.
