By simply sinking your server ...

It is naive to think that by simply sinking someone a few times they would remember you and spread your name.

If the game map was massive, and everyone played on the same server or even just a few named servers (pick which to go to), then you could become known. However with so few people on each server you cannot impact the community from in game to gain any renown.

It’s not like I can’t see where you’re coming from. It would add to the experience. But to implement it, imo, would be to the detriment of the game.

I do agree that something to make us feel ‘special’ or unique would be most welcome... but not this. It should be through cosmetics. Actual “unique” cosmetics.
I dont want to feel special i want to be renown

I’m just not interested in stat tracking for this particular game - and I think, for what you’re suggesting, it would need it. It would completely change the relaxed vibe of the game - which is one of its strengths. The servers are also the size they are for a reason - and part of that is because I don’t think Rare want a renown system.
My only suggestion was stat tracking and a way to view it. Being able to see world and server stats would only change the nature of the game for people who would care about it. The servers are the size they are due to the current map size, and there server capabilities.

I’m all for progressing the game, but the beauty of SOT is that it’s not like all the others of a similar ilk. Because it doesn’t track stats.
It does; they are just not posted

Why do you ‘need’ to be known through past stats? The whole game is based around your actions ‘in the moment’.
Renown is achieved through a persons past actions or current action in process if it is crazy enough and well promoted. SOT has no function of recording past or present actions for players to see.

Say I did know you. What difference does it make? I can’t see you until we’re on top of each other anyway and when we’re fighting am I there thinking “oh no - not them”? Because that would literally be it. That’s all I’d think. Then I’d forget about you.

If I join a server and I know you’re in it ... so what? Do I cower? Do I go looking for your scalp? No. I just carry on with my own game. Like I would in World of Tanks, for instance.
This is one of the great things about sandbox games, everyone can care about and play in a way they want

The server structure would have to totally change for what you’re after and adding ‘stats’ would be changing the vision of the game - which isn’t what the ‘progression’ of it should be.
Why would server structure have to change to accommodate player stats? or perhaps you are referencing the ability to pick servers which i clearly stated was not a possibility but you felt the need to "main stream media" my post and pick and choose parts of the quotes to fit your own narrative.

Why would people care about other people caring about their stats? Sounds like a 'I don't care, but I'll care if you care, so no' attitude.

This is the same situation as when people argue against opt-out crossplay and PVE servers. It won't effect you.

  • @pikavenger ones a stat page I won't look at, the other is the games ecosystem.

  • @gloog The only ecosystem in the game that matters is the 6 or so ships on the server you're on. You won't see any changes in either situation, so they're comparable.

  • @xxbrytexx

You seem very angry about this.

I’ve answered you thoroughly. You just want everyone to know how great you are in game. I get it.

Like I said. Show them. In the moment. As the games vision intended.

No they aren't because now I can suddenly choose between grinding loot/rep OR straight up just messing with people.

  • @gloog You can do that now. I'm not quite understanding your statement.

Players will just choose PvE servers when they want to grind and then they'll choose PvP just to mess with people. That's messing up the ecosystem of the game design. It's not comparable at all to a stat page..

  • @gloog Except that it won't mess up the game design. The PVPers will still PVP and the PVEers will stick with the game and stay a revenue source rather than give up on the game entirely.

Side note: are we still within the purview of this thread or have we derailed it?

  • @xxbrytexx Put simply, the problem with tracking k/d stats is that improving your ratio becomes a goal in itself, and that changes the way people play.

This isn’t a competitive game - it has plenty of conflict and contest, and those are the best parts of the game, but it’s not long-term competition.

  • You can’t have Pvp stats in a pve based game. Yes all progression is based off pve. Even destiny has a tdm mode so destiny is a terrible comparison. Ridiculous topic. It would be the most flawed stats ever.

  • @warmcreator8491 I just want a place to nerd out with my pirate. not sure why anyone would think this is bad.

I think you derailed it ;) Shame. It’s an interesting thread.
