chats heard across PC

  • A few of my shipmates and i are cross platform and we have heard/found on many occasions that if we are in a private chat on xbox that PC players we may be playing against can hear our chat. This in our thoughts is a major issue. we will be in combat and say something and they will hear it and are able to directly thwart our work or they will turn to avoid or know when we are going to powder keg them. I know some will say this isn't so, but we have had guys in our private chat whom have heard the other team while in our private chat and so this is how we became aware of this. im wondering if others have come across it or not as well? If so, is there a fix on the horizon? or are we all SOL? :(

  • So if you are on PC and using xbox party app try to change the ingame binding for push to talk. It more likely that you are broadcasting to both party and the world. Hope that helps.

  • @coel03 the problem exists when you are a xbox party chat and PC players can hear you, even though you are in a private chat... giving the PC players an unfair advantage over the private chat xbox live players.

  • Last night i was playing on PC. Was in a party in the xbox app with friends.
Got on a galleon, I could hear the two other people on there talking to each other in the game, they could not hear me and i could still hear the party, so yes i could hear the in game chat as well as my party. If we were at a fort or something fighting it would have possibly given me an advantage of some sort

  • @shuoink yes sir, that is exactley our issue. we have lost out at forts because they could hear us. it is a problem. :( chances are we would not have lost out in a few of our fort battles...

  • The only thing I can think of is you were in-game chat not party chat. I would ask the question how do you know that the enemy is using party chat not in-game to coordinate?

  • @nabberwar we were in a private chat via xbox, not using in game chat. shouldnt matter what the others use. if in a private no others players outside that chat should be able to hear it. and again i was not talking about the enemy using party chat. i simply stated that we have noted PC players have been able to hear more than they should. If they are in a private xbox party they hear extra. if they are in gamne chatting, they hear extra (ie:they hear private xbox party chats as well). This is what we have experienced 1st hand in our crews in game. in game chat or not, they should not be able to hear private party chats without being a member of that private chat group. that is the point of the private chat group.

  • So the issue is that PC players can hear world voice chat and their party voice chat at the same time. PC players can also talk in both at the same time and I believe the difference is due to the options for push to talk that PC players are given. Xbox players need to swap between the 2 and are unable to hear/use both at the same time. The option is there to both PC and Xbox players to use party chat and party chat can only be heard by those in the party.
That being said, if you are in a party and don't talk on world voice chat then no one else can hear you, unless someone on Xbox is either swapped to world chat or they are on PC and have an open mic to world voice.
I thought the push to talk issue for PC causing an open mic when push to talk was on was supposed to be fixed but I question that myself because I can hear an echo sometimes when playing with friends on PC.
It should be that Xbox players should be able hear and talk in the world chat rather than having to go to some setting each time though. If they can't fix the part about talking then they should at the very least be able to hear others talking and fixed asap.
I don't think there's a real advantage to the opposing side if everyone is in the party and with their settings correct. Then there is no giving away of plans or letting someone else outside party hear you. But, PC players with an open mic can give things away, and Xbox players in private party can't hear those who are giving things away.

  • RARE needs to put at end to 3rd party chats. All chat should take place in game chat. 3rd party chats just take away from the game; but not using them at this point puts your crew at a severe disadvantage. Being heard while in the enemies proximity should not be optional.

However before Rare even attempts to address this issue they first need to address the sub par sound quality and transmission speed of game chat.

  • @aktaz Part of that was directed towards Shuoink on: How do you know they were in private chat. Back to your question though. I don't play on Xbox for this game, I was under the impression though the app you could be still in a party but you choose either "game chat" or "Party Chat."

If you are in a private chat, which is run through Xbox not Sea of Thieves, wouldn't that be a problem on Xbox's end? That just my best guess, I am by no means an expert.

  • I've never seen this issue creep up before. It's true that PC players can hear in-game chat while being in a private party themselves. But I've never been able to hear someone from another crew who was in a private chat.

  • @daddy-sanctus said in chats heard across PC:

Question for you, I am on PC as well, but when you use the app do you have an option to switch rooms "In-game and Party Chat" as well? Either I'm dumb and can't figure out the app, or we don't have that option while in a party.

  • @nabberwar No, on PC when in an Xbox party chat, there is no option to switch between private/game chat that I've seen. So the push to talk option becomes necessary when trying to communicate in the game to other crews.

  • @daddy-sanctus That's what I thought, Thanks.

  • @aktaz I think you misunderstood Coel03, he believes someone within your party, a PC player, has a setting set to when he talks in Private chat he is also broadcasting simultaneously in In-game chat.

Therefore, enemies within proximity can hear part of your chat. While in a party, a PC player doesn't have the option of switching between Private chat and in-game chat. That is why we set push to talk as an in-game setting. When we want to say something in-game, we push a button, if enemies are near they hear that. We hear our private chat and in-game chat simultaneously.

  • @nabberwar im guessing there is a lot of confusion. i play both platforms. i do not play very often on PC. i am usually on box since most of my friends are there and don't have to worry about push to talk, etc... what annoys us is even though we are in a private chat in game, other users on PC playing against us hear our chat as well as their own whether they are in a private chat or in game chat. it has cost us skull forts and other riches in the game. its annoying and frustrating, lol. we have tested this out many times in game against others.

  • @aktaz Yeah there does seem to be confusion, but I'm genuinely trying to assist you. I'm PC and don't have this problem, another person on this post has said the same thing. have you tried to narrow who in your party can be heard? Is it one or all being heard? If it is only PC its a setting issue, if Xbox players in private chat then open a service ticket to the Devs.

I feel confident that someone's settings are screwy. I would recommend every person who is on PC adjust the in-game mic setting to Push to Talk. Whatever they say while the button isn't pushed should remain in Private chat. If they wish to say something to non-partied through the Xbox app need to push the button. It will then broadcast both chats.

  • Sounds really far-fetched that anyone else can hear what you're saying in party chat, even more so suggesting it's somehow caused by the game. As far as I know Party Chat is completely separate from the game altogether.
