PC Hackers need to go

  • @urihamrayne I find it really hard to believe your statement. When a galleon crew of 4 is sniped with a rifle and killed in 20-25 seconds by a 2 player sloop(with only 1 shooter) travelling in the same direction is a clear indication that a player that has an aimbot has just crossed your path. There is not a player in the world that has the skill to do this(mouse or no mouse). Those of us who are not cheating with aimbots actually need to spend time aiming a rifle before firing. The problem needs to be addressed, not trivialised or denied it is happening.

  • @roguem8te "I find it really hard to believe your statement."

    What statement? Quote me.

  • @lofty1985 said in PC Hackers need to go:

@myrm that maybe true but I have looked to no avail for the “invulnerable” cheats that have been mentioned here and on Reddit.

Ah, my apologies to you; I didn't realise you were referring to that specific cheat in your post.

  • @lofty1985 a casual player on PC?, sure. People like me that use to play competitively?, nope. Doesn't mean i won't die from time to time however. But i do rarely get killed by a "Slow turner".

  • @lord-salty-dog Ive been playing since launch and only ever encountered 1 hacker. You are just a salty dog with a controller.

  • I encountered an odd situation and refrained after consult to posting on the forums, and I am rather glad I have.

I submitted a video of an issue I had in the game wherein a character I was engaged in combat with survived a mid range sniper shot, 3 sword hits and a 4th that might not have struck, and a sword lunge all without a banana break and within the span of moments. Camera was never off the player. Then I was immediately teleported off ship...

My ping within the span of 1-2 seconds jumped by over 300 then immediately after the sword lunge... again to the 800's only to correct immediately after the 'teleportation".

After much discussion it became worthy as an offer to the game security team, realizing that at least should they discover no foul activity they could then forward it to the bug team, or blame my ISP and call it a day.

I'm glad I submitted the report, but I have to admit, they eventually did reply suggesting it was a connection issue and not a hack - though it really did appear to me as a hack issue.

Why? Because I'm no hacker... I have limited actual experience with "hacks". I understand some basic approaches.. I know where to find the basic tools such as aimbot, overlays, esp, etc...

But the sad truth is :

    I appear to have misjudged.

An anecdotally higher than expected health target... with an ability to locate me hidden on the back end of the ship despite no obvious reason to check there... and a teleport?

Yea looked like a hack to me at first view.

This is why "hacker threads" get under my skin.

We can't actually post the information here per forum rules, but without clear investigation or at least data to indicate percentages of noticed hacks... it's all speculation and hear-say.

  • Hackers do exist no doubt. Have even submitted our videos to Rare. I think the problem is not hackers because they are actually rare but the way PC players can turn on a whim and one shot you is the problem. There is definitely an advantage playing on PC i know first hand because my son plays on pc and I play on Xbox. His load times are far quicker when he dies. The way he can dance around enemies and one shot them is amazing.

Does this need to be fixed? I think so because PC players definitely have the advantage over xbox players even tho they aren't hacking but everyone thinks they are because they are superior in SOT

  • @lord-salty-dog Nothing you said in your reply answered my question. It's like you typed to type lol. Yes, I've competed for over half that time in games like Halo, Counter-Strike, and Overwatch. So when people call me a hacker just because they're using a controller and I'm running circles around them on PC, I just feel kinda bad.

You either have proof or you're salty. Either way, there's not much they can do on their end if they don't know what they're dealing with.

  • @havcn
I thought you were a blow hard so was basically calling you noob...
Please refrain from chicken brain bait tactics...
I wont be posting any links here...
    What's your agenda?
Do you feel you have silenced me or proven hackers dont exist?
You are delusional if you believe that and I care not for your grandiose vision of your abilities or excuse for hacking claims being misrepresented as hacks because of PCs being superior to xbox.
But seeing as you mentioned that and this thread is about the fail by Rare to provide a level playing field. Well perhaps since hacks do exist and are being used by PC players and PCs are simply superior to xbox. Then crossplay should be terminated until a level playing field can be regulated.
    Thanks

  • Had a hacker tonight that was not taking damage and was moving twice as fast as everyone around him. He was swimming in the water while a member of our crew was sprinting on an island and this guy swam so fast he got to the other side of a skull fort within 10 seconds and then started jumping over walls and buildings on the island. It seriously needs to end. We sunk his ship and he had a brand new one within one minute right back on top of us at a skull fort. It literally just appeared too. I was on the ship watching the horizon and literally saw him appear just outside the fort range full Sails on top of us. Only thing I can say I am happy about it one skeleton on the fort spawned under the map so we couldn’t kill it to start the next wave. Hopefully neither could he. Entire crew rage quit. This is why I don’t like crossplay with pc. And as you said , Rare doesn’t seem to care.

  • At first I thought that crossplay was a good initiative, that it was the future.,
Today i realize how much all of this is wrong.

First, a pc player can smash an xbox player, cut the lies, a m+kb = instant crush on any xbox player. Therefore it gives birth to all those "stop pc hack" posts. Xbox players would be fine playing against Xbox players rather than facing pc players. Rare worked h*****n the crossplay tech. It is the essential point of Sea of Thieves : gather PC and console players together in a funny pirate game. They will not throw away that aspect of the game.. Well.. in 6 months Xbox players might slowly leave the game because they feel outplayed 80% of the time. Players don't have that patience.. if they feel like they are outplayed, they leave, blame, call hacks or just claim that it's unfair... which is kind of true.

The second point that makes me feel like crossplay is going to kill the game is the fact that Xbox is limiting the devs plans. Let me explain: A pc game today can make wonderful worlds, MMO's, sublime graphics etc.. A game that has to run both on pc and Xbox will never reach 100% of it's capacity. One of the two plateform will always be a bottleneck. They constantly have to optimize the game to make it run perfect on both platforms which does not make the task easy on the network side. Sea of Thieves is probably already suffering of limitations because of the crossplay tech and the future updates/content plans will have to be developpement under that crucial condition : it has to run on both platform smoothly.

  • @irishviking23
I played with a legendary pirate she did something I hadn't seen yet. We finished a fort and they took all the loot out of the captains quarters put most of it on top of the anchor then grabbed the stronghold skull and jumped on top of the anchor then jumped onto the top mast of the front sail then vanished leaving the skull up there. Emerged from the captains cabin jumped back onto the anchor then jumped to the top mast of the front sail again. Then Vanished. Left the crew was gone from game.
A legendary quest was active the remaining crew went to do the quest while searching for the treasure locations and fighting off skeletons although having had 5 bananas on me when it came time to eat one or two none were showing up and I couldn't loot any from barrels on island. Soon enough I died then checked my bananas right away and sure enough it showed 5 again. Back on the island I go the scenario repeats itself. I'm thinking this is rather odd while fighting a group of skeletons when all of a sudden from thin air the legendary pirate is standing in front of me holding the stronghold chest is this the one we just sold? She drops it there and goes to ship I check the crew suddenly she's back on the list.
Also for the record it was their ship cosmetics and their legendary mission.
I should also add in that while they were no longer in the crew while fighting the skeletons I did receive notification that they were trying to invite me to which I did nothing as I was fighting entire spawn alone...

  • @lord-salty-dog it’s ridiculous

  • Where is lowby? He is usually here to tell us that hacks are impossible and cant be done in sea of thieves, and then report anyone that disagrees with him. Where are you mate?

  • @lord-salty-dog said in PC Hackers need to go:

Now Rare has a game, the mechanics of which are entirely designed around an imaginary level playing field... That's why your toon will never actually improve you will never have a better weapon or ship than anyone else.
Now aside from that sounding rather fair the reality is that Rare has FAILED to provide a level playing field.
The implementation of crossplay has exposed xbox gamers to be forced to play with PC players who can will and do employ hacks. Xboxone has not as of yet been hacked or modded successfully.
Until Rare implements anti hacking software which successfully police its servers its claims of providing a level playing field are unfounded.
I find it odd that Rare has tolerated this issue as long as it has. What an embarrassing situation they are in. Is Microsoft actually to blame? It matters little.
Xboxone has a majority when it comes to people who play the game. That is why some who do not play that much claim to have never noticed a hacker. While some that are hackers make such claims themselves to have never seen one on these forums or make other claims like the people complaining about hacks just suck at the game. How do I know? Because I have crossed referenced the users from my captures. However Rare also has their naming and shaming policy so I can't share names here.
Out of the majority from xbox that I know that have quit the game already it's been due to hackers close behind is a lack of content.
I want new content like everyone else, but I can wait for that. However I like many other xbox users will not wait much longer for the level playing field Rare makes claim to provide.

(As a PC player) I see post like this and something that comes to mind is that SO far, in what feels like 400 hours + in this game as off right now, Im pirate legend and I never ever ever meet a single cheater or what feelt like cheating. We sink ships left and right all day long. The only example I can think off is that we had the occasional Xboxer yelling Cheaters to us one or two times when they try to blunderbuss us from like ten meters away atleast taking off 2% health on each shoot and they think thats suppose to kill someone. Ask youself even how many times have you come up to random noobs trying to use their blunderbuss in the water on anything that is not right in their face? Alot I bet? thats what we do atleast and we laugh all day long when they do we even tell them why are you trying to shoot us from that range while laughing at them. And then they yell cheater just because they can't kill us with something that they must be thinking is some sort of a super weapon and unless it oneshots because they heard some youtuber say that blunderbuss is OP.

From a console players eyes that is not used to face players using mouse and keyboard in a game like sea of thieves were sure its not a twitch shooter like quake but even a mediocer m/k user can aim way faster then any controller can, that can seem like they are "to good" they must be cheating they killed me that easy etc etc. Heck Ill remember back in the days when I was playing counterstrike all the way from the first alphas in 0.3 or so up to 1.6 patches and we had players yelling cheaters all day long to normal players that was just way way better then them.

  • @breeza369 ye lets fix that superiority with taking the superior way down a peg or two so they get equal to the consoles :P

Sorry I had to get that out of my system. I just love it when I hear yet another superior thing has to fall in line with the worse options so it can be "fair" like having to accept X minority in to lets say a sport or something so everyone can be equal or something, or accept people with lower grades vs high grades so the lower grades don't feel left out.

  • @lord-salty-dog You can call me a noob all you want, but I know for a fact you wouldn't leave a dent on my ship, lol. Come by the stream sometime to see a PC hac- I mean, player, for yourself (Twitch: Haven). The game is already on an even playing field. You either get very good on the console or switch over to PC since you own the game on both. I still don't see proof, but maybe someday you'll shed some light on these "hackers" you speak of. Good luck!

Did I make the list? And if so can I see?

  • @zneekey said in PC Hackers need to go:

@lord-salty-dog Aaaaaaand another salty xbox player who lost against a PC player and blames "hacking".... Jesus c****t this is getting old..

Don't worry, these post will disappear when optional crossplay is implemented.

  • @urihamrayne said in PC Hackers need to go:

i don't know how i managed to play the game from the alpha and not encounter a single hacker, but every day, every hour, someone in this forum complains about them.

Maybe you just have not been astute enough to figure out when it's going down. I l**o when I see post like this. I have been playing since blah blah blah, never saw a cheater. How about, open your eyes! Lol the dev's have acknowledged the situation more than once. Yet we always see people claiming that it doesn't exist, or implying that everyone seeing it should stop crying and get gud. I think many of the alpha and beta testers are just not capable of understanding when someone is pulling the wool over your eyes. By the way the player base is leaving in droves, no way I would admit to being a blind alpha or beta tester. I have been offered paid testing positions by at least one major game manufacturer. Not because I am ignorant to what is happening around me in a game. I am what you call astute.

  • @captgraykid you can and should edit your posts with the wheel on the bottom right instead of double posting, its in the unspoken rules of forum discussion.

also I also said in this thread that hackers exist, I just never encounter them. Read the thread

  • @solidsnakemig said in PC Hackers need to go:

    only pc players can cheat

When you say ignorant things like this, you only hinder your own argument. Cheats are on all platforms, available to anybody with enough know-how to use them (with the risk of being banned from the game). The most common cheat in this game is the "rubber banding" of xbox controllers. So stop hating on that which you do not understand.

Also, making spam posts about the same thing, over and over again, is far from productive. Stop spamming the forums.

    lol

  • @havcn
You are so good I couldn't damage your ship huh?
Like I said you are blow hard... I bet you can go just as fast into the wind because of it...
Hope I do see you around soon...

  • With all this arguing over if PC people hack, I decided to google the term: Xbox Hack SoT. Found YT videos of XBOX players hacking from THEIR perspective.

You realize Xbox people can hack too right? Some of them are even proud enough to share their hacking knowledge. Took me 2 seconds to find even, the video I'm referencing was front page Google. Before making accusations about how "ONLY" PC players CAN hack, maybe do a few minutes of research.

Remember, the XBOX is just a computer designed to play XBOX games. It's not some magic hack-proof piece of equipment. People can hack CARS remotely, you think they can't hack xbox? Hell I have a LEGAL way to play Xbox games as an Xbox player through my PC but the game thinks I'm playing through my Xbox (need VR but it's possible and Microsoft supports it). You think I couldn't hack that if I were a hacker? Hell I bet there are hackers that can play as Xbox players through their PC and the game interprets it as being played through an Xbox WITHOUT Microsoft support.

Bottom line, if "Hackers" are your biggest complaint, it's not PC you point the gun at, it's hackers, and Rare has the gun pointed already.

  • @korinra
Care to send me the links via pm?
I have just searched the term Xbox Hack SoT & found the grand total of diddly squat!!

You are aware others can search & will find out the truth ;)

  • @korinra
Playing xbox games on a PC does not equate to playing on xbox.
Xboxone remains hackproof your claim is false...

Well sir, I would if that weren't against the forum rules. I will tell you, the comments in the video appeared to be in Spanish. First video link in google for search: SoT Xbox hacking

Can't tell you why you're magically not finding it but I am.

But I know a way I can prove my claim without breaking forum rules. BAM:

I used the terms in that screenshot & searched & found the video.
    That shows absolutely nothing!
You cannot tell if the galleon is pc or xbox & it could just be server/ connection issues.

I'm sorry, but quite how you can call that evidence of xbox hacking in SOT is just ridiculous!
Trust me, there are NO hacks for SOT & it is almost impossible to use hacks on the xbox one as it will not run unsigned code!!
