How much do you value / how much did you pay?

  • I'm curious to know from all of you out there.

What price tag would you have put on sea of thieves?

    AND

How much did you actually pay?

    I'll start,
In current state I'd be happy paying £20-£25 as it just feels too limited to me, I'm sure that will change with time.
I actually paid £12.50 as i bought it from an ebay seller who was so let down from the hype they never even used their download code.

  • I did the game pass trial, then bought the game for $59.99. I think it should have been priced more in the 39 - 49 range during its release state. THey had a rough launch, but, I'm being hopeful the DLC roadmap pans out for the best. COD WWII had almost the same start, $60 retail yet the game was clearly unfinished big time.

I still really enjoy the game since I don't play it as a grind, I play it for fun all while ranking up rather quickly.

  • 60, 60 is fine. No season passes, long term support.

  • Playing on GamePass, so two months o' that, like $20?

If I'd paid full retail, I'd no be complaining. I enjoy the game an considering we don't have to pay for updates it would be worth it in the long run.

  • @gloog I do agree with this too. The no season pass is HUGE.

  • paid 60.
    IMO worth @ most 30.

  • @gloog said in How much do tou value / how much did you pay?:

    yep

  • Totally worth it, bought for $60 USD

  • Full price. Worth 30 dollaridoos.

  • 60 for over 100 hours of entertainment is a bargain in my opinion, that’s before the 6 updates

  • Im pleased with what I got for my 60 so far and supposedly there is much more to come so seems like I got a deal. I guess it should be looked at as an investment in playtime over the next year maybe more. Went out to eat dinner last nite with me and my wife. Was 70 bucks for like an hour. maybe hour and half if you count the bathroom break to come. I think people cry a bit too much over things like this. IT SHOULD BE FREEEEE IT SHOULD BE 20 BUCKS ABLAIRJAOJGLAK GJKA

  • At 1st glance, I thought the 60USD(what I paid) price tag was too high. Almost 2 months in, after playing this game every day, I have played at least 250+ hours. I'd say it was worth every penny. Especially since I am not bored with this game yet and plan to keep playing into the foreseeable future!

  • I already pre ordered so doesn't matter. If I had known how bad the Kill on Sight mentality would be and how many people would be dropping out of the game, I would not have bought it. I had 40+ friends playing at the start now I'm solo. All others have dropped out due to the amount of kill everyone you see that happens in the game. Most of the time if I try to get on a gallon the group seems more interested in sinking people than doing voyages.

I play an hour or two here and there. Usually late at night Pacific time. Few people are on so I don't have as much frustration as I have had.

  • @laughsmaniacaly Paid £49.99 and feel I've already got my monies worth in terms of the amount of fun I'm having. True there isn't that much content, but we know that's coming and we know it's free!

It was money we spent as far as this pirate is concerned.

  • At the moment I wouldn't pay more than £40.

When the content they're promising comes out then I might feel it's worth the full value.

  • Depends what you want, really.

For me, it's the perfect game to just relax with, and has the exact kind of mechanics I'd want. So in that sense, I'm happy paying the £50 I paid.

The problem is, I don't think the game is really worth its value for anybody who isn't absolutely in love with what the game currently offers. My friends have enjoyed the game pass trial, but none of them enjoy it enough to fork out £50 yet.

  • Preoredered for the black dog stuff. Payed 60. It was well worth it.

  • I paid for game pass before the game was released, and intend to keep paying for it, genuinely only really for this game and State of Decay (assuming it's any good). I think I would have been very happy if Game Pass wasn't an option and I'd paid £50 though, because I play nearly every day, have well over 100 hours logged so far, and am still in love with the game - even before any new content is added. The only other games I have that many hours on are the Dark Souls series, and those are literally my favourite games of all time.

Paid 70€, have played for around maybe 350-400 hours, so I'd say I got my moneys worth. Price tag didn't matter to me, because I already knew I would like the game and what it had to offer.

  • Got it on gamepass so I paid 20 euro now, seeing the amount I've been playing it (almost every day since launch) and the amount of fun I'm still having I would have been fine paying full price. I'm sure that whenever I decide to end gamepass, I'll still be buying the digital version of this game. I also spent money on Sea of Thieves related items though like the Sea of Thieves Xbox Controller and the Tales of the Sea of Thieves book :)

I'm always surprised to see some people complain about it not being worth the price they paid even though they've put in 100+ hours into the game and are still playing, but putting 8-10 hours in God of War or something and then throwing it aside was totally worth it.

  • I paid $60 for it. I have been out of the console loop for so long now I didn't even consider the game pass (a 3 year old can have that effect on life).

I was hesitant paying that much mainly because I hate paying that much for video games in general. Part of the reason I dropped out of consoles is when I added up how much a system would cost plus any game I would want I figured I could spend that money elsewhere in life and sleep a bit better at night. I usually wait for a game to be so old it hits a Steam Sale if it is PC applicable or I don't play it. I've cut back on that a lot lately tho (see 3 year old note above).

That aside I have gotten my money's worth out of it and that's not taking into consideration future content. Let's be honest. I doubt I am the only one here who has sunk way more money into the World of Warcrafts of the world trying to find that perfect MMORPG. Of course that comparison opens up the content 'can of worms' so...sorry in advance...but I've gotten more fun grinding for pointless cosmetics than I ever did trying to keep up with end game nonsense in warcraft...

Aside the aside I fully understand where people can feel it isn't worth the money. This game has cast a strangely wide playerbase net for such a niche concept and it shows in the various discussions that take place around it.

  • I paid 1USD so far.. (14 days trial and game pass promo sale) and i wont be spending full price, because of their pricing audacity... in central europe they ask 70EUR (83USD) for this... people claim they dont charge for a season pass.. i beg to differ.. you already paid it, because this game should have been like 30USD tops.

  • Tried it on gamepass, then bought a code off someone for € 35.

At launch it was € 60 so I feel I paid a fair price.

  • Paid 60 euros, is worth 60 euros. We are getting more things, they support the game greatly. If a company supports a game, I am willing to spend more money on it. :)

I have been played this game SO much too, so it's totally worth it. I and many more people say that you should get 1 hour of enjoyment for every 1 euro spent, and I've spent way more than 60 hours on this game so it was worth it. :p

  • I spend the 70€ in XBox-Store, so my gf and i can play together over the share-function, so it would be 35€ each...
We're now 40/40/38, don't know how much time exactly, but definitly worthit

  • @laughsmaniacaly I got it free.
I would buy it at it’s full price.
People complain about it but think of Call of Duties, the Order 1886.. that they bought for what it was. not counting Fortnite players who pay for SKINS (pitiful)

  • It was cheaper than other AAA games in canada by $20 so I'd say it was fairly priced. Also G**O with those $79.99 games with $9.50 in taxes, as a working adult almost a hundred bucks for a game is too much. I'll probably buy a quarter as many games now just because thats an amount of money worth deeply thinking over.

Which brings me back around to sea of thieves. Myself, my gf, her sister & bf, and their mother all play sea of thieves a 2-3 times a week for 2-3 hours at a time. We would probably play more if it was easier to do 1-2 hour sessions and feel like they were worth it.

  • Think about the price per hour. I've had many mediocre meals out that cost more than the full price

  • It should be free to play, that is exactly what the grindy gameplay feels like, with less to do actually than some actual free to play games.

And itll definitely feel more free to play when they add their microtransaction multi currency c**p in the update everyone is excited for. Having followed this game for as long as I have, this 'big' update will be a let down.

I paid £50 and Ive paid less for much better games and have never felt so ripped off.

  • @laughsmaniacaly It depends.. At the moment I feel like it's a lot of money for an unfinished game. That being said, I like having free updates instead of buying expensive DLC. So right now it's a bit overpriced, but eventually I think it will be worth it.

I usually value video games like this: I want to get at least 1 hour of playing out of every euro I paid. And I've played a LOT of hours already, so I guess it adds up. :)

  • @uvg-reign now I remember, you're the same dude who said he felt ripped off after preordering. 😂

  • @gloog said in How much do you value / how much did you pay?:

@uvg-reign now I remember, you're the same dude who said he felt ripped off after preordering. 😂

Yep, I believed their hype (Mod removed). Most the stuff in the game trailers are missing, and nothing but the same dig treasure, get skulls and catch chickens when you hit legendary status, which they said before release is "where the game begins" ... jokes on me I guess.

  • £20-30

    paid:£8

My current sub has ran out atm and will only renew it when/if Rare add something that makes me come back.

It also depends on my friends and if they continue to play, as this game on your own, although fun at the beginning it is really dull now.

  • I think 50 would have been more reasonable but I didn't mind paying 60.

  • 100 paid 60
