Does your outfit indicate your intentions?

  • Very simple question.
Does your outfit indicate your intent?
Like, do you wear Sea Dog items to show that you are a pirate that will hunt down and kill anyone they meet.
Do you wear Admiral items to show your peaceful intent towards others and hatred towards the Sea Dogs?

Or do you just use whatever looks cool?
I am asking because this is a question that has been on my mind since I first started playing.
I very much like the Sea Dog items, but I am always worried that because I prefer the PvE aspect of the game, that others will open fire on me, simply because of my choice of clothing.

So did you buy your clothes to show your itentions towards others? Or just because they look cool? =)
I am genuinely curious about this

  • I mix it up and change my outfit on occasion. My outfit now is all armored up so it does actually show my intent of boarding and killing lol.

  • I go with looks cool. My ship has Sea Dog figurehead and sails, and admiral hull, looks terrifying, but awesome.

  • My clothes fit my character but the sets don’t determine his personality his personality determined the clothing he wears. I do a mix of admiral, bilge rat, and ferryman. Got the red jacket with the orange bilge rat hat sovereign pants and admiral boots admiral gloves from merchant unlock and ferryman hook

He used to be in the admirals fleet but has since gone out solo to strike it big in anyway he deems fit!

  • I have just purchased the Ruffian sea dog collection for me and ship.
Normally i always get chased down by everyone. But yesterday, with my new colors on, two of us were heading for the same shipwreck and the other sloop actually turned away and left me too it. Great choice in customization i thought to myself! That is until i was gasping for breath on my first dive and heard the sound of cannons above.. I was so focused on getting to the prize first, i forgot to look behind me and see the galleon i guess.. Hunted down by Admirals! But i went down with my ship whilst emptying my tankard.

  • I couldn't tell you what I am wearing name wise, just looks, but I don't think any specific type of clothing or sail specifically points out your affiliation or intentions. It's what you do with those fancy duds on, that makes your preference known haha.

  • @ve111a So prepared for combat, makes sense =)

@DrewBob7 Ahh yes, the Red Ship of Death, I have been chased by one such ship before. It is indeed terrifying =D

@TheMilkman-VaEc I cannot even imagine what that looks like =P

@NeedSmokes Uh, I like that set, I hope that they are adding the equipment for the new sets soon so we can have matching everything =)

@xxxrookxxx Well that's the thing, if I see Blue sails(Admiral) I am not as worried as I am when seeing Red Sails(Sea Dog), so there is that aspect of it, for me at least

  • @Danish-Crusader Since I solo sloop, people avoid me, because they fear I am two men, employed by the devil to hunt down mankind!

but in reality I am just one person making a bluff while I go grind factions!

  • I much prefer the PvE aspects of the game but I wear whatever I take a liking to. I like to mix up my clothes and change from time to time. The clothes don't always make the Pirate ;) .

  • Sorry, this thread title sounds like it should be on the cover of "Modern Piracy Magazine." With a picture of Blackbeard in a matching doublet and pantaloon set.

But (seriously). I just started changing up my appearance on a semi-regular basis just for the heck of it. No rhyme or reason, except for occasionally wanting to look different enough to sneak up on a crew I've already interacted with in a session. New hull, new sails, new outfit. Same ol' thug life.

  • I have noticed if you go plain paint on your ship, people will go after you more!

  • I do stick to mostly bilge rat variations to go with my pirate's "sea hobo" style, but I do throw in some accessories I just like the look of. Like the sovereign hat and just recently, the fingerless sea dog gloves.

  • @drewbob7 I guess they are afraid that anyone with painted ships and sails are a multiperson crew, or are just very good at the game, and therefor, should be avoided.
I should start saving up for hull and sail paint.

@PumpkinKangaroo It is starting to sound like my "fears" are unfounded, which is a good thing =)

@Captain-Arcanic Arrr the colors of me pants matching me belt buckle? Find out on page 7!
So you just switch it out whenever, fair enough =)

@V**a-Hombre I get that, the payout of what we turn in does seem like handouts, so sea-hobo makes sense =)

  • I dont think anyone is looking closely at what you are wearing yet. I think people focus on what you say and if you are firing on them. I mix my clothes up but prefer sea dog.

  • My outfit shows buyers remorse. 😐

  • I started wearing less cosmetics to show off my pirate's tattoos.

I wish you could roll up the sleeves of some jackets/shirts... as the tattoo on my pirate's arm is on the the one that is only revealed on like 3 items... there are a handful of ripped sleeves cosmetics but it's all the wrong arm!

  • I mostly sport the higher level OoS stuff, so I suppose it indicates my intentions. Those intentions being your skulls.

  • @drewbob7 I've got the same set up.

  • I wear the new admiral officer outfit to tell any eleven year olds joining my game that I'll be locking them in the brig.

  • Yes! When I'm playing with a group and feel more comfortable looking pirate-y I wear my Black Dog set. When I'm soloing I usually dress as a merchant and do everything I can to appear harmless/friendly.

  • I created an old man hobo. My friends think i look like the skinny old muppet that judges people.

  • Yes and no. I may start wearing admiral with intentions to only do merchants quests. But if I see a ship I know has loot then I start feeling the pirate deep inside (; even when solo. However if i ever put on my sovern gear then my intentions are to pvp everyone.

  • @danish-crusader not me i just wear whats cool and when i 'see' other pirates, i dont see clothes first haha i see hostility or not. If not then maybe ill take note of clothes. I did have a guy come to an island i was at and he said he was scared of me because of my 'brave vanguard' title haha.

  • Looks like the general consensus is "I wear what is cool".
Fair enough, makes me feel a little better wearing what I do =)

  • I wear different outfits to show my intentions, but both suit my character.

I wear a scurvy bilge rat jacket when I'm going along normally, but with the black dog gloves to show my skills are just as good as, if not better than, my intentions.

However, If some particularly bloodthirsty pirates cross my path, (normally at a fort) the real good stuff comes out. Black dog jacket, sovereign gloves, and my newest edition, the new admiral hat with the name I don't remember. its the large one with crossed swords.

I really believe in a game full of cosmetics, I'm not limiting myself to just one set. What your character wears can present you as friendlier or seemingly less trustworthy. So use this to your advantage and present yourself to display your intentions, or hide them in the shadows.

I'll dig up a screenshot in the morning.

  • I wish!

My outfit isn't nearly fancy enough to indicate my true intention: to be the fanciest peacock on the high seas.

Still waiting on my cravat, 3/4 length coat with waistcoat, and powdered wig, Rare!

  • yes...and no.

I wear what fits my pirates personality or current 'mood' but that doesn't always mean a specific set. Right now I've been feeling like a smuggler with all my merchant voyages so I have some non flashy clothes. The taller of the new admiral boots and the new pants from the other admiral set(black ones) and then just my sailor shirt and depending on the weather or my mood a jacket of some sort. Lately its been one of the new blue ones...don't remember which set it is...castaway something or other. If I want to feel more fancy I do the original admirals shirt with the vest and said pants and boots, no jacket.

All in all what I wear varies. Above is my current mood. Looks cool but not flashy. Don't want to dress like a legend when I'm not a legend *wink~

On the note of ship color...as one hesitant to pvp I fully admit to avoiding ships with customizations more than I do plain ones. Something about knowing how much they cost screams to me "s**t...this guy knows what hes doing..." To be fair if I hadn't bought so many outfits I could have gotten ship customizations...

  • @danish-crusader I am usually a friendly pirate, unless attacked first. I wear whatever "looks good" including the sea dog stuff. I tend to gauge other pirates by their intentions or actions rather than what they are wearing.

  • I'd say I'm pretty much in the middle of the spectrum. I rarely engage first, but I don't back down either. Unless I have tons of loot onboard.
