What are you hoping for from "the hungering deep"

  • Personally I've seen too many negative posts around these waters lately and so I'm just going to straight up ask you, the community, what you hope for.

So tell me "hungering deep" what are you hungering for?

For me it's customisation, everything from hair colour, tattoos, more stylied clothing like in the 1.0.6 patch and key would be paints and dyes allowing me the choice of my ships colours.

  • @laughsmaniacaly Private Crews.

  • Some other regular event like the fort. Or even activating the so far unused forts. :)

  • I only care about the weekly events so from the hungering deeps I'm expecting events, every week if possible.

  • Secrets to discover, more exploration, successful cooperation, new activities, new enemies - that's about it for me.

  • Just something new and fresh which maybe puts a twist into the game!

  • @nebenkuh
Care to elaborate on that, I've not seen many people discuss a forced activation before. What's your thinking, how would you work it?

  • @laughsmaniacaly Oh and Radar for our ships...well it's more of a pig powered, dolphin controlled, wooden submarine, that provides radar. @BusinessJjj is pushing the project through to Rare and we are hopeful that it is in this month.

  • @laughsmaniacaly
Didn't mean activated by the player or anything. It's just that right now, only 3 forts ever become active. So I'd like for all the others to become active as well, because there are some really cool ones out there :)

  • @moomintroll
Love the idea of secrets to discover, anything in particular?

  • @laughsmaniacaly i hope that this will extend the joy of adventures with friends

  • That Rare puts out enough content to hold people over to the next DLC..

  • I hope it's some type of new activity that presents some kind of mechanical challenge that can't be overcome without skill and coordination. It sounds like it'll be underwater, so I'm hoping for a diving bell and some hostile sea creatures, and some underwater activities that require more complex strategies than "deal damage while avoiding damage or just eat bananas". I'd really like to see something that forces people to work together, and not only loosely. Currently the hardest pve in this game is a wave of pistol skeletons and they're only a problem if you let them surround you. Teamwork is currently entirely unnecessary, and I'm hoping for something to change that.

  • Well for me, private crews, more customizations, hair colour, tattoos, etc. should be in the patches we have every weeks.

For the big updates I want something that extend the world we have now, so for Hungering deep I really want to have quests which bring players underwater! And I really hope it will bring with it a collaborative way to play with other crews. Not like the skulls forts. Yes with this update I want clothes, ships skins, weapons and customization that are related to this extension.

  • @laughsmaniacaly loving the game, but there's a lot I think needs to be added. I've discuss some in couple old posts:
    New Guild / Lore
    (https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/57293/wishful-content-new-guild-lore)
    Rewards Need Improvement
    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/57726/rewards-need-improvement

    (shameless plug)

But on the subject of customization, I agree with everything you mentioned, but I would also want it to be clear that you could also get dyes to change the color of your outfit, not just hull design. It would also be cool to have pets, but they've already planned that and I guess momentarily sidelined it at the moment.

The sad thing, there's so much I want for the game, but chances are they won't add what I want, at least not for a long time, and I think that is what a lot of gamers get upset about. which admittedly is immature, we can't expect the development of an entire game to go exactly our way when they have to consider so much. Nonetheless, I'll keep an eye on the game.

Well teamwork is necessary when you have to fight other crews actually, just by keeping the ship alive. But yes I really want something much harder which won't be possible without coordination with our crew and the other crews. Something that will connect the players together.

  • @laughsmaniacaly what he means is that not all forts in the map get activated everytime a skull appears in the sky. Only a select few; going around the forts you'll realize that the largest ones remain dormant always.

  • @shibby-544
You're right, there is so much ambition in this game and it's posts like this that highlight the community intrests that get viewed by the devs, the whole game as service model is designed around that sort of feed back. Enough backing to similar themes and the development roadmap shifts to accommodate. That's business structuring.

  • @assassinsking98
Ah, genuinely hadn't noticed, just thought it odd that I've hit up shark fin camp about 4 or 5 times now.

  • @laughsmaniacaly my thoughts would be leviathan, new ship customization, new weapons, tattoos, etc

  • @laughsmaniacaly Yeah, we definitely need more constructive posts and comments. It gets annoying when people just make rude and pointless comments and give up so quickly. Thanks for making a post like this and steering it in a positive direction.

  • @laughsmaniacaly exactly, it's only those few, not coincidental.

  • Nothing.
That way I will not be disappointed about anything.

  • @laughsmaniacaly Something that helps deepen the connection between the game and the lore - for the world to change and events to occur that at least imply a story. Plus exclusive loot for events and discovering secrets. Oh, and a new tier of chest/skull/animal, because progress is way too slow at the moment.

  • well as far as customizations go I just want cheaper stuff the ship customizations are too expensive for a single player save gold for. I'm fine with getting small customizations that are cheap in the beginning and then work my way up, but right now it looks like ill have to spend hours grinding and for what a target on my back. this game may be losing its magic theres just not enough reward for your work. saying its about the journey is bull because some of us are introverts and anti social we wanna play by our selves or with a close friend. personally ive had too many bad experiences playing online with audio because my voice sounds like a 12 year old girl and I'm a 32 year old guy so you can imagine the c**p I get. most mmos and pvp multiplayer games had some kind of option for people like us to play and have fun. now to get back on subject what I would like to see is more just anything more. whether its more of the map or more ships or different types of ammo.. I'm sure we all have our list of what we would love to come into the game and its we understand its yalls job to make sure nothing goes out of balance so all we can hope for is to have at least one thing on our list come to the game. btw you guys are doing an amazing job please keep up the good work. oh and the reason why there are millions of players is because we have all been waiting for a replacement of ARK Survival Evolved being that it replaced minecraft and I think it has finally arrived. oh and you guys are doing a great job on release/patch notes. much better than wildcard, yall don't try to promise too much and set yourself ridiculous deadlines. wildcard did that a lot and there was a lot of drama and a lot of broken promises. I'm guessing you learned by watching there mistakes I'm sure every game studio has.

  • @laughsmaniacaly Just thinking of hidden items that could lead you down a rabbit hole of further adventure really... like all the in-game lore hints that are already there, but with the ability to activate quests, or maybe unlock new cosmetics... The world is so intricate I'd like there to be more reason to investigate that intricacy...

  • Jetpacks

  • @skulliah In my experience it's far easier to keep a sloop alive while I'm alone than to keep a galleon alive with three randoms. That's neither here nor there, though.

I really hope for something that I can't beat by simply dealing damage while avoiding damage to myself... unless that avoidance of damage comes with some type of mechanical complexity.

  • @laughsmaniacaly said in What are you hoping for from "the hungering deep":

So tell me "hungering deep" what are you hungering for?

My simple answer? More than is being advertised in their limited bullet points.

But I can't be too critical of that small seeming offering, I haven't played the content and don't have a clear view of the "scope" of the content offering. Only my interpretation of what it is being described as and the realization that this is a (sic) "medium" sized update compared to what's coming.

I really want more ways to gain rep beyond the voyages, and I'm sure there will be some offerings in that arena, beyond that....

I can't really say. Most of what I am looking for in upcoming content revolves around the weekly events, and new features that are not coming in this patch.

I am cool with the new AI threat, that alone is something I am eager for, so there is that.

  • There are lots of good ideas here so far.

I would like to see more types of chests and skulls (crystal skull where are you?)

Yes it is. But we can't talk about teamwork when you're playing solo. It's just two different way of playing the game. That's why I'd like something that goes beyond our own team where we can all collaborate together to achieve something. It would bring amazing stories!

  • @laughsmaniacaly a reason to play

well, there are already small books which unlock some quests but yeah I would definitely like to have something more developed! There are so many possibilities!

  • @harlton-cheston said in What are you hoping for from "the hungering deep":
    (crystal skull where are you?)

hell yea. Though I 'suppose' that sort of inclusion isn't necessary... it's an awesome thought to put out there if only to attach deeper connection in a more obvious way to real world lore.

    Speaking of... Lore...

We need more in game sources of this! Sure, there's the book I'll never buy... we need connection to the setting built into the game itself! Hell, just adding the so far undiscovered and unlikely unimplemented Ancient Spire chest referenced by the tavern keeper would be cool!

And this triggers a thought to add that I would LOVE to see more videos containing Easter eggs that actually connect to the game. LUCKY 13, PANDORA, NO LEMONS... add something in the game with puzzles like that in the media... and Ill be a happy smurf!

  • @laughsmaniacaly

If you want to see the write up about the sub idea here it is.
