Career options

  • Before I start - I don't want this to art out into an argument about PVP v PVE. So take those arguments elsewhere please.

    The option for careers.
    After all, pirates didn't chase other pirates, the chased after fat merchantmen, or where they suspected a good return for minimal effort.

    You could start and have the choice of Pirate, Merchantman, or Navy.
    Each with their own career path -

    1. Start as a small trader, work your way up until you have a full sized clipper full of expensive cargo, with Navy escort for important cargo.

    2. Start as a small time thief, work your way up to captain of a pirate ship with a crew of your own and treasure in abundance.

    3. Start as a cabin boy on a navy vessel, work your way up to Admiral commanding a fleet. Jobs such as search and destroy, bounty hunts, escort services for rich merchantmen - again possibilities without end.

    Each path with it's own rewards.
    PVP exists in all cases to keep the pvp'ers happy.
    There would still be quests and treasure hunts for all.
    And it would be more in keeping with the way things were, instead of pirates chasing pirates.
    The ability to make 'permanent' crews (much like clans or guilds), or certain divisions of navy would be an added bonus.

    If not that, then at least NPC merchantmen and/or NPC Navy.

    Bottom line is - more long term player satisfaction!

  • The servers/game would need to be majorly changed for this. It's cool on paper.

  • Love the thought, but it seems too great a leap from the current game. Simply introducing a "Royal Navy" guild/faction and increasing the number of voyage types for the merchants would be a start.

    But yes, while this sounds great in theory, it would require a complete overhaul of the game. However, the game is so barebones and empty I don't see a problem with doing this.

    Is this for Sea of thieves 2?!
    Because this changes and ideas would require a new game from the stretch.

    This sounds like something that would be awesome in a single player version of this game, or an MMO with more focus on NPC involvement and story.

    Sad though because that would be a really cool thing to work towards. I suppose we still have the whole reputation thing.

  • Hmm. I like the idea of Career's but I don't think I like your selected careers. As others have stated it would require too much of a game rework.

    But If you built them around whats already there...merchant, smuggler, raider, etc (sort of theme them around existing factions/cosmetic archetypes) I think it could be done. If anything they could add the appropriate titles as well as some quality of life bits and things to play to it. I for one have grown to consider my character as a smuggler so even a simple thing as a title and more cargo for me to sneak about would go a long way towards my play style. Or even some shady looking cosmetics.

  • Definitely a good idea I would love to see some sort of factions added, as well as some sort of deeper look into the lore of the game perhaps some sort of story line other than making our own story

  • I proposed similar ideas throughout the pioneer testing and even earlier in development and they stuck to their simple fetch quest trading companies.... maybe if Blizzard develops SoT 2....
