Render Distance of all useful objects

  • As an important thread on the issue has for some reason just been locked I’ll start another one.

I include my post on the 1.0.5 patch notes thread that has garnered a large amount of support from the community.

“Please Rare. Don’t think that the render distance adjustment from 1.0.4. is a final fix! Sure trees and islands load in a bit further away now (not as good as launch) but the important items - loot, crates, bottles, animals - PEOPLE are still not rendering in until you’re on top of them - making the spyglass practically useless! I’m searching the world for objects! Not trees and rocks!

Please, PLEASE don’t forget this issue. Your whole game is based around looking! This needs to be addressed.”

Especially player draw distance needs drastic improvement.
Currently, you can only see other players once they are in cannon range. Because of that, every approaching ship has to be treated as potentially hostile. Crews are on high alert, ships are positioned for broadsides. It's a standoff every time, because players cant make their intentions known from further away.

Additionally, since the latest patch it seems like ships that are beyond a certain range will always appear to have full sails. This is kinda the same issue as above. In reality, that galleon on the horizon might be parked at an outpost or an island minding their own business. From the perspective of the sloop, it looks like they're sailing full speed towards them. You should be able to discern the sail status of a ship as soon as possible.

We’ve all sent in many examples of “when this is happening” It’s happening ALL the time and NON STOP!

Closing the thread “The new patch made the draw distance way, way worse...“ seems a little harsh don’t you think?

New posts and content were being added to the thread. Having no communication from Rare that this issue is being heard has led to this “bumping”

Thanks for regurgitating the post from the dev, posted after the 1.0.1 patch, that got everyone upset then. The non answer is as infuriating now as it was when posted.

Closing the thread just makes the situation look even worse.

The handling of this has been appalling!

  • No change after patch 1.0.6 then.

Do you really think having the spyglass, one of only a few tools, rendered obsolete - is a good model for the mechanics of the game moving forward?

We need to see objects rendered in with the spyglass! If they don’t render in until we’re close enough to see them with our eyes the spyglass is pointless!

I don’t know how many times this needs to be said.

  • Yep. spyglass still useless as of today. Pathetic Rare, it worked beautifully pre-launch and @ launch. worthless since 1.01 patch.

  • They closed the thread because captain flag waver didn't like my daily bump.

I just really want this to get fixed and it's as bad as having the push to talk issue broken until 3 patches in.

There's a giant issue and it keeps getting glossed over.

If they would correct this issue - I really wouldn't be posting on the forums except when I see the amusing posts - like...

We need PvE on ghost town servers!
I'm being camped at outposts on ghost town servers!
    And my favorite...
We need single player mode because the servers are ghost towns!

    :)

I’m totally with you on this.

I’m posting because I care - and it is a HUGE issue that affects gameplay. It’s a mechanics issue. It’s at the games’ core!

Some actual acknowledgement from Rare (not that stupid bloody dev post that gets wheeled out at every opportunity) would go a long way.

Then they need to fix it.

  • I am curious if it is because of one of the following:

    A. Xbox Console can't handle it
    B. They want to make you go to the island or get close for some lame gameplay reason
    C. It somehow causes network lag
    D. They feel that no matter what PC config you have they wanted it at the lowest setting to make it even for all
    E. I have no freaking clue they're just ignoring the issue :-P

A warning will be issued and the thread locked. Ignoring the warning will result in a temporary ban from the Forums and a final warning."

This is why the thread was locked, don't bump threads for no reason. In any case, send a report ticked if you haven't, and let the issue rest for a while, reposting threads like this will only get you guys banned, even though most of you just want to be helpful.

  • I’ve seen a few posts now on important topics suddenly closed. Not sure of the reasoning behind it. When something such as the draw distance, which affects all of us, is as horrid as it is now, we want the devs to be reminded of it.

  • They're probably closing the threads because they are already well aware of the topics/issues, and don't need countless threads constantly saying the same thing.

  • Would be good to know that though right!?

    That’s the whole point.

There was a reason - if we had communication with Rare we wouldn’t have done it. We’ve all sent countless support tickets. This is a new thread on the same topic. You’re right. We’re actually trying to be helpful to the community.

I’m not doing this for fun. I wish there wasn’t this glaring issue.

If they really wanted to stop repeat OP's then they should give us a response on those topics. As it stands every time I see a locked thread on an important issue the hope I have for sea of thieves dies a little.

  • The below isn’t me blowing my own trumpet. This is to highlight a point.

Correct me if I’m wrong but on the patch notes 1.0.5 thread - the OP comment of mine on this thread garnered 68 upvotes. The patch notes themselves got 77 upvotes.

Doesn’t that tell you something Rare!?

This is an issue of importance to your community. You’ve made a game specifically to encourage your community to add their input. Yet you do literally nothing.

Patch 1.0.6 rolls out and nothing. In fact you then close a thread on the subject for a rule that could seriously have been overlooked (if you’d actually read the thread). More threads on the subject appear. Nothing.

This is an issue that is damaging your game! It’s an issue continually highlighted to you! Nothing.

I mean seriously. What is going on here?? TALK TO US!!!

  • You can’t talk to us because you know it’s not right but you can’t do anything about it.

You can’t admit it. I get that.

Please don’t give up trying to find a solution. Your game deserves better.

    I’m done.

"You can’t talk to us because you know it’s not right but you can’t do anything about it."

As much as the draw distance annoys me, what you said is not likely to be the reason for Rares silence on the issue.
A game studio consists of many different teams working together but on their respective field. They have leadership and NDAs, so it's not like one dev can just go to the forum and make a bunch of posts about technical issues at the core of the game.

  • I wouldn’t expect them to come to the forum. I’d hope they’d acknowledge it in ongoing issues in the patch notes. If they did that it would suggest they could fix it.

    But they can’t.

They’re not stupid. They know it’s a problem. They just can’t fix it and they can’t admit it.

I just hope they don’t stop trying.
