Rare why is sot no longer single player friendly ?
i have no friends that play sot anymore so i have 2 choices join the idiot random crews or play alone im currently 50/47/50 i can not complete lev 45+ soul's alone its taking 12 hits with sword to kill skellies its taking me forever to kill capt and i know you said you reduced A.I accuracy 2 week's ago but are you sure they hit us in the air, and the pistol skellies hit at massive range just like the skellie cannons on islands. Then all i get is discraced skull. The game should reduce the mission's toughness level for single players and get harder for each crew member you have. My son is on level 10 soul's and hes getting more vigilance skull's than i am at level 45 please look into this before there are no one left
why is sot not single player friendly??
@shrek-t-t
Lol no way mate. Games to easy already. I would join a crew from these forums instead of playing with randos@shrek-t-t said in why is sot not single player friendly??:

I get villainous skulls and the skeles aren't super hard to kill yet.
@shrek-t-t Try luring the skeletons down to your boat and using your cannon. I Don't think they'll be able to lower the difficulty based on how many crew members you have but I don't see why a solo player shouldn't at least net more XP for voyages. Solo sloping is essentially playing the game on hard mode. Most games give you a bigger payoff for playing harder difficulties so I don't see why SoT should be any different.
Make new friends? I have no issues making friends out on the high seas. I made friends with 2 other pirates on a sloop as we agreed to team up to take on a Skull Fort. We manage to battle off 2 opposing galleons and beat the Fort as we split the loot. Then I added them to my friends list and became a crew on a galleon. Also while as a galleon we came across another galleon at a port and became friends with them. It's not always hostile out on the seas.

I hate solo skeleton voyages, they slow me down incredibly.
Packs of golden skeletons are the worst especially if they all have guns. Cannons become my friend (when able) during those situations. Hell, I even use cannons on spkeleton packs when in a galleon, because they can be that annoying.
That said. Solo is = Incredibly Hard Mode in this game.
It's inverted from what most casual players expect, IMO. Even I usually assume solo means easier or less pestered with content.
It's pretty much the exact opposite in this game.
My suggestion for players who can't tolerate rando's, need freedom to afk or show limited commitment in the game, or even those who might not have alot of time to play in a setting is thus:
Make friends.
Quickly.
Krakens Spawn or other in game 'clans' are the way to go.
I know, it's likely counter-intuitive. I haven't joined a "clan" in perhaps decades. And making 'friends online?' for shame! I haven't done that since I played WoW almost likely over 10 years ago!
Or, forbidding that, simply find friends elsewhere in the forums perhaps. Or even in those "rando-groups" if you get lucky.
Finding players of a like mind, especially if they can cater to casual play or lacking ability to commit, and certainly if they simply want to have fun! Is the only way to go.
There are those who will enjoy the solo game. I say let them. But if you can help it, or if solo is too much, I strongly suggest making some friends.
I group with players who are relaxed, sometimes have to afk often, may not have the highest tailored skill-sets in the game, but love to have fun. (I even "watched" someone offer a real world expensive gift and trade shipping info to another gamer, simply because they liked each other as pals)...
REAL RELATIONSHIPS will provide sooooo much more value to players in this game.
I don't think you'd be an exception.
As e'eryone before me be sayin', the life of a solo pirate is no gonna be an easy one. The game were developed wit 4 player galleons in mind an' if they lower the challenge for solo players then they make it too easy for them playin' the game the way Rare intended.
I solo too, 'cept on weekends when me crew be around, we hail from different countries so weekend be the only time we can make together. So I feel yer pain matey, I do. But I know I be the one playing the game queerly, an' I no be asking Rare to make amendments for me vexing habits.
Like others before me, if ye need a sloop partner or want to fill a galleon, look me up. I be a defensive player, good sailor, average PvPer but I can take a skeleton or two. Sometin' like 37/26/33 I thinks... I try not to look.
Happy sailing an' good luck. Ye nearly be at the 50s!!
I completely agree its like the devs are saying F you loser for not having people to play with, and lets be honest to get on a good crew is like winning the lottery no one communicates and its horrible. there needs to be a ship for single players, faster smaller holds less loot, one cannon on the bow. weak to everything including storms. this is all we ask.

There is no single player campaign its all online.

Yes, that was a real touching moment last night. Especially for two people who have only met online through this game.
A very kind gesture and perfect wedding gift.@saintsfanx05 said in why is sot not single player friendly??:

Never ever ever a front facing cannon that will be the new meta and be cheesed to oblivion
While I have yet to hit the impossible skeleton wall of the higher levels I still really enjoy my time soloing. That said just spending time on the forums I have seen enough repeat names to know where a lot of people stand on play styles and could probably very easily hit up a few of them if I don't want to try randoms. Also I have had a lot of luck lately coming across friendly players. Just today I sailed around with a random guy who helped me unload my chickens. People are out there if you need them.
On a side note I would also like to see a solo specific ship but I have yet to see a specific style suggested that would fit within the balance scheme. Overall tho I have grown attached to my sloop and my soloing ways. Bring on the challenge!!
@ve111a ok fine a rear facing cannon but you know how hard it would be to do even a front facing cannon by yourself steering, moving sails and bailing water. it would be a last ditch effort defense. its hard enough for a crew of two to pvp on a sloop let alone one person on a smaller boat that Is gonna be running for there life half the time.

If this game track kill death ratio is in sinking the amount of ships I've sung on a Sloop would greatly exceed that of a galleon. I suck way more ships on a Sloop because it's easier to sink People on a Sloop
@ve111a sloops are easier to use yes. a galleon takes at least 4 to be successful. I'm saying if theres a single player ship it needs to fast but super weak for example storms would sink it within a minute. one shot from a cannon would be an instant sink it just gives the player the option to get loot from the island and get back to port before there seen. also could be attacked by sharks to add the added risk level.

The only solo ship I'm okay with people having is a rowboat. No sales no cannons very minimal storage space no defense one shot you're dead. They don't want to waste time and Manpower and effort to build a ship for a few people they want to build ships that everyone can enjoy together. This game is more focused on the multiplayer aspect and that's how it should be

But you do have people to play with. Literally every player in the game is 'someone to play with'.
At most they are saying - this is a social experiential game so go be social and make fun experiences!
There is no punishment for solo.
There is only the reality that the game is entirely focused on getting people together to have fun.
Solo, or even reduced crew sizes, are offered to allow for variety and to cater to those who simply want to "go rogue" or otherwise keep their crew tight. Even a 3 man galleon is technically outmatched by a 4 man galleon, that one extra player could easily make all the difference!
Getting bent because what's essential a 4 player game gets harder with less people makes literally zero sense.
This can be a single player game. It can be fun as a single player game. But it's going to change the whole spectrum of 'balance' against the single player - it's literally how the game is focused.
From comments such as:
Increasing crew size options despite type of ship as a possibility, adding megaphones and increasing means for players to communicate, forging challenges ahead which will expect multi crew co-op, and so much more...
Hell, look at the "solo play" video if you still can't "get it".
this is not a single player game. Nothing in it's design says it is, should be, or needs balance towards favoring single players.
I agree with some points in favor of solo players. It would be very nice to have a small single location (perhaps a specific tavern) which is off-limits for killing. It would help, imo (wrong though it may be), facilitate communication between parties - solo or otherwise.
I agree PvP should incorporate some means to protect a player from total loss of perhaps hours of investment. This could be as simple as offering the rep bonus once a skeleton boss has been killed, or treasure found, leaving the gold gain to claim only on turn in.
Slow down griefers even more after returning to harass a player (or group) despite multiple sinking events.
My ideas aren't perfect, but I do think some adjustments could be made to allow for less potency in the sense of being griefed. But this isn't a game that "punishes" soloists.
It simply expects soloists to understand, they aren't the focus of the game. They are the already catered to by simply allowing the prospect - outlier.
Want a balance fix for soloists?
Remove options for crew sizes below 4 and remove the sloop.
I found a new purpose in solo play. I did the grind, racked up coin, bought my skins, and am not interested in Pirate Legend status.
Now, I sail the seas with a new purpose. A noble purpose. I load my boat with TNT, lots of it.
Then I sail the seas not provoking a fight, but sailing like I am minding my own business, waiting for those bully pirates to come along thinking I have loot.
I will allow you to get just close enough to think you have a chance of catching me. Your hull is now mine! If I don't succeed, you and I area going to enjoy the red sea together.
My hope is that I can draw the bullies away from you as you dig and explore.
I am a new kind of Pirate. One that likes to help the weak while just plain annoying the strong!
Cheers Mates!
