Are the Kill on Sight trend changing?

  • This weekend was the first time I saw other ships and they didn't immediately turn and start chasing me. I spent about 6 hours playing over the weekend. I saw at least 10 or more ships. Some (when I had nothing on my ship) I sailed right by and they waved and flashed lights. I did the same. Twice I saw two ships in the distance and they weren't firing on each other. This is the first time in game where it wasn't Kill on Sight.

Also during one session I logged on with a Skull fort up. I saw a number of ships sailing around and none were heading for the fort. After a bit I sailed to the fort and nobody was trying to clear it. I even sailed around the Island a couple of time both directions to see if any ships were just hanging back to kill the ship that cleared it. Spent 20 to 30 minutes just sailing around it and nobody came. Normally when I fort is up every ship I see is sailing towards it.

Just checking with the rest of you. Are you seeing a change in the player bases reactions to others now? Or is it just I got lucky. I hope the KoS people are getting bored and more cooperative people start coming back to the game.

    Thanks,

    Zeffin

  • @zeffin I feel like the game was right off the bat really successful with people expecting a competitive pirate game or something. Lots of those people seem to have left and the people still playing are more just doing so out of enjoyment of the game.

    Yay

  • @zeffin Hey buddy, from what I've been reading on the forums and reddit, is the rewards from taking a Skull Fort have dropped 50-75% so I think a lot of people are avoiding them now. No point is spending the time to loot them if the reward has been cut in half.

I may be cursing myself by posting this next part, but I have been running into ACTUAL cool/fun people in the game, lately! Certainly seems like the trolls have gotten bored for the most part and the serious fans are left to enjoy the game!

  • @zeffin I think so.
I use to treat skull forts as a pure PVP area with no options for diplomacy but I stopped killing on sight when some of my crewmates started working out profitable alliances.
So I see myself sailing calmer waters for now but that may change as new content is added.

  • This is good! I'm a solo slooper that flees from everything! this might change that!

  • I've noticed this too. Oddly though, I've been engaging rather than running away a lot more recently (although, of course, if someone does something to indicate that they are peaceful then as as far as I'm concerning they are now immune to PvP unless they attack me), so perhaps the player base is settling towards a balance?

The people that had Games Pass with no vested interest in progressing in the faction, have now left, so it's also my opinion that the PVP has decreased some.

I prefer the long con, have another crew help you clear the fort, start loading their ship first and have a crew sneak a barrel or 2 on board and boom. Now you have all the loot.

  • @hecklan That's a good observation and decent theory!! :D

Either way... I'm enjoying my time in this game a LOT more, lately! I still get the adrenaline rush when seeing another ship, but I'm not ganked every session!! :P

  • @mr-spiderhead I would not commit to any form of ideology, its not the pirate way... even the pirate code is a bit too convoluted for me. Except for the take care of your crew part.

Join a server feel it out uses your intuition and senses. Understand what your crew is good at and what they're weak at and play to your strength while you target the weakness of others. This is how you improve your self and make everyone else around you better.

Well, I cannot comment on this remark with too much credibility. I run off game pass as well. And, I "care' about my progress but play almost entirely for the social outlet it offers so I don't know that your that close to the mark on this.

But I can agree that, game pass certainly opened the door for awareness the product exists. I can also agree that game pass would serve to draw in a crowd of experimental "test the water" types.

This implies some merit to your remark.

But I think a better way of stating this might be: Those who didn't really feel committed to the game, are starting to thin out. I'd agree to this.

I suspect after the first wave of major updates players will return for a bit and the cycle of short term interest and eventual shelving of the title will continue until the game slips off the radar and thrives only upon the shoulders of the committed play group.

Game pass certainly had some effect on the flavor of player during launch.

But I've met more than my fair share of full copy purchasers who have already shelved the title as well.
