Well i got beasted today.

  • Joined a crew with my brother my friend and a random was great fun but my friend had to leave around 45mins in due to children waking up.

Another random joined the crew and luck for us one had a mic the other text chat but everyone was talking. It was good.

After a couple of hours we saw a skull cloud and thought "what the hell, why not"
We approached it against the wind and with half sail parked between two towers and out of range. We had taken only one hit which was quickly fixed.

So a quick look round and there is nothing, not a single ship on the horizon. We all pile ashore and start breaking bones. After about 7/8 rounds we see a ship on the horizon, no doubt its heading our way, we managed to clear 2 more rounds before heading back to the ship.

We turn to face them as they approach and quickly let off a sequence of broadside explosions.

They attempted to board us but to no avail. They sank and we won. Huzzah.
Suddenly from behind a rock just behind the shipwreck we spy another gallion.
At this point i realise that one of my crewmen have left the game, ok 3 v 4 I've had worse odds.

They rammed us and two boarded, we defended but never saw the third jump into the water with the explosive barrel.

We lost that fight but though we will still take back the fort.

We sailed at full speed for 10mins against the wind again and as we approached the fort, we realised that it was now just my brother and I who remained. As i tried to line the ship for a clean broadside the front suddenly exploded. One of their crew had placed a barrel in wait for my return.
We patched it but by now our stealth advantage was lost, i pitched the ship nose first into theirs and respawned for my next ship.

By the time we respawned and got our bearings we watched the skull fade.

The fort was shark fin camp, if you look at the map you'll see that spawning two islands over in any direction is still further away than 2 different outposts.

Sadly this time, i was outgunned, and out manoeuvred.

    I mean...
Hacking cheaters, i had lag, it's clearly the games fault. Lol.

Well done to that gallion although maybe brush up on your vocabulary, some of those words could be upsetting to younger audiences and there are much better ways to vocate your victories.

  • @LaughsManiacaly Good excuse for losing I suppose. Not sure if you're taking it well, seemed fine until those last few sentences seemed a little passive aggressive. Like you were gritting through your teeth or a forced laugh like things are alright. Hope things get better on future runs for you.

  • @twiladerp

    Depends which but you mean
The hacking cheat bit is tongue in cheek humour in mockery to many people who use that excuse every time,

The language bit is more of an unnecessary step, i know many people do it (call names to those they have just defeated) but i find it a little childish to become offensive after a victory.

Winning or losing is all part of the game, you have to take the fall to appreciate the rise but shouting obscenity afterwards just loses the credibility of the player to an unsupervised juvenile persona.

I suppose this is just a long way of saying "try to show some sportsmanship."

  • @LaughsManiacaly I'm glad you posted this. It shows you have humility and have been bested by a group at some point or another. The amount of threads and posts of people who try and make a point with "I sank 2 balloons and defended a skullfort all by myself." Or even once a person had the gall to say he never got sunk. The ego on these people is incredible and I want to wipe the swab deck with their cold clammy courps.

  • @twiladerp
Its an experience like all the rest. This game is fun, very fun. But only if you accept that you can't and won't win every time.

This game creates stories and that is what makes it great and boy do i have some stories.

Even defeat can create a good story which is why i made that post.

  • I respect the humility. Not too many know how to take an L.

I remember I was playing on a sloop and saw a skull raid with another sloop there, and we had been on a winning streak so I felt confident enough to go to it without selling the loot I currently had. Thought I'd get the jump on this sloop, but they wrecked us. Was really upset I lost my stuff but nothing like a nice cold hard reality check. Should have sold up first :P

  • @iduskk
I bet there were a few choice words you were thinking at that point lol.

It's refreshing to hear others that aren't just bitter at the loss and accept the tactics of others. Better luck next time tho.

  • @twiladerp In my opinion (notice I did not say experience), I think the best revenge on those people is to join them in a game, then play normally, EXCEPT when in combat, during which you will do nothing. This works better on a 2-person sloop, for semi-obvious reasons, and you can watch as they attempt to fire cannons and steer at the same time. (Noob trick- play music during the fight to "enhance" gameplay
