Riddle Voyages Suck

  • They really need to improve these. They're pretty fun to do sometimes, but why on earth would I do a 20 minute Riddle on a huge island to get only 1 chest which might end up being a castaway, when I can scrap the voyage, get 5 chests on a small island that takes 5 mins to find them all?

IMO, the way to improve riddles is Guarantee a Marauders or higher, with an high chance of cursed chests. Or have the riddle point to multiple chests. I also think they're too easy. It feels like im reading directions more then solving a riddle. "Go here and do X." It should be more cryptic and make the players have to speculate what the meaning is. At least at the higher levels whcn we start to see the same clues pop up.

  • They do suck. There's a big thread on voyages. I'd hope they will get changed.

  • @iduskk Although I don't agree on the "Too easy" part, the riddle quests hold no value to anyone wanting to increase their reputation and I think that's something that most people can agree on. Unless you're doing them for fun then there's a high chance you'll come out the other end feeling disappointed that you spent twenty minutes searching for a seafarers chest (like you said). If they were to fix this than they'd undoubtedly need to increase the chances for finding a valuable chest (guaranteeing a marauders at least) or give people more riddles for the same islands. Great thread, have a good one friend :)

  • I realy love the Riddles, but yes, it takes to long just to find a wortles chest. They need to change it, so we can find one of the best chests in game.

  • Isn't the received chest always random?
Yes, the riddles last longer and that makes them annoying for players who want to level up fast.
But on the other hand it's just another luck-based aspect fo the game. You can go on, make the "easy" quests and end up with castaways chests too.

  • yep, they are a waste of time. nothing takes away a piece of my soul more than putting a level 40 gold hoarders voyage down on a table just for one riddle to show up. Oh and imagine when it turns out to be a castaway.

  • @iduskk I do agree at times but lately the riddle ones have had only Captains chest for me. Try downloading the sea of theives companion app on google play. That will help finding any paintings on islands and alot more.

  • @iduskk the problem is the entire design is flawed.

    why do tier 1-2 animals
why do skeleton pirates below a crew of 3 captains
why do any digging maps without atloeast 3 X marking the spot.

voyages dont need to be finished because you dont gain reputation from that either.

I wish we gained rep equal to the amount of the stuff we turned in when completing the voyage.

  • @themustamissed then still only good ones will be made.

they should find an queal footing

  • @eam-samaraka they should atleast add more chest that pay better to fix that problem not still get seaferers and cataways

  • @cobra07102000

    I agree!

"They're pretty fun to do sometimes..."

It is interesting how people are willing to give up the fun parts of the game and to use exploits in order to level up as fast as possible.

Tried the Merchant exploit the other night. Spent a good amount of time buying and cancelling voyages, collecting cages, gathering gold and black chickens and snakes, hiding them at one outpost with one person while the rest of the crew went to another outpost only to have a new galleon spawn in at the first outpost, find the animals, kill our guy and sold everything. And one of our crew said that happens sometimes. No fun.

And Skull Fort server hopping with random tryhards. Just shoot me.

  • They are fine - and often can lead to finding other things/voyages, but with so many people concentrating on Min/Maxing it's a challenge to find a Galleon crew without at least 1 person demanding they always be dropped.

It's a perfect example of players "breaking" the game and bending it an artificial and player-created sense of efficiency. It's similar to people in WoW refusing to read text boxes because "its boring" or "takes too long" and then asking everyone where to go and where to find things and what to do next.

There is a divide in what people seem to want out of games and gaming experiences. Some just want the window dressing of the gameworld with an optimized progression path they can use to (in their own minds - especially in this game) outpace others, ignoring the "game" in the process.

  • U can stand on the pole the sail is on. When the island name pops up the second clue where unlock so u can park the boat near the clue.

  • @themustamissed i agrre with you completely.

  • I have had some luck with decently valued chests doing these riddles...its rare but sometimes the riddles are a part of a series of chapters and I have had none fewer than 3 chapters. It, on average, gave me 2 maps with at least 3-5 chests and 1-2 riddles.

I do feel though that if its gonna be a riddle, maybe make it to where at the end where you get the treasure, there is another riddle or a map? The chest would start at a decent value based on the length/difficulty of the riddle and as you spend more time searching, the value/payout increases.
