They need to remove the white heading above enemies name when its an out of view distance!!!

  • Hey I am all for who is friend and who is foe. but just why not make it where if they are in your crew they have green heading. if not there is NO heading.

Earlier today after a pvp ship battle I was the only one left in my crew and the other boat took off (with some good treasure) so as it was sailing I was hiding on the latter the whole time for a good minute. and I was all the way down it pretty much in the water so I was straight out of site. so 2 guys when to the crows nest to telescope all around to make sure we werent getting back on their tail. I heard one go "I see his name in white hes on the latter!!!" boom instant give away and my plan went to ****

Another awful example was during a big 3 galleon battle at a skeleton fort for the key. long story short our boat sunk and 3/4 of us died. but the remaining person had the key. and was trying to just hide out behind the island behind some rocks until we could pick him up. he was really far back of the island pretty much in the water and was behind 3-4 rocks COMPLETELY out of site..... and then boom someone saw the white heading pop up and knew where he was. the only way for it to not pop up is to make your guy sleep, wave, point etc

This needs to be taken out ASAP like w*f why is that in? just make it so you know who your crew is.....or AT LEAST if they keep this in make it so the white heading above an enemy can only be seen if they are in DIRECT site of you. not below you, not behind things. it seriously takes out the sneaking element of everything

  • either remove it all together or only use it in plain site

if your friends have green over their names NO need to have white over other players

  • I hate that you can't be stealthy in this game. Swim over to a ship and watch them change direction because they can see you from miles away.

  • I agree, white names are useless (who takes time to read them before shooting?) and make sneaking almost impossible.

  • They already significantly reduced the range at which both enemy player models and names are visible. If the enemy player names weren't visible at all, a couple things would happen. First, it would be completely impossible to spot boarders and people carrying barrels except under ideal conditions (clear water, daytime, etc), and secondly, it would become impossible to report cheaters.

  • @atyoss Maybe, just maybe, there are some people that don't shoot on sight. At least I heard rumors about that.

  • @crimsonraziel a dit dans They need to remove the white heading above enemies name when its an out of view distance!!! :

Then they will be dead before having the time to read my name.

More seriously i think white name should be readable when you stand very very close to the player, i don't count the times i got spotted or i spotted an ennemy on water trying to sabot our ship because of the white text.

  • @atyoss And everyone else has to play the game your way?

If you don't want to pvp, you can still communicate and be allowed to read his nickname by staying close.

If you are more a pvp player then the white text will not interfere in the gameplay.

It's a possible two side solution not something i want to impose.

But i bet you just want to uselessly argue instead of proposing some of your ideas.

  • I would say the name text still needs to be there, but only as the OP says in direct line of sight.
I personally like to have the names of my enemy in front of me for one or two reasons:

1- I like to hold a grudge if they have beaten me and I see them again later (won't actively chase them down mind)
2 - I like to be able to report hostile players who grief or spawnkill.

  • I don't understand why there are names on enemies to begin with. You see your teammates with green names. Anyone without a name is obviously an enemy. Takes stealth options completely out of the game which kind of sucks. The only benefit is it helps combat Outpost camping, but I hate when we're being chased and I want to jump off with a TNT barrel, but I'm basically running around with a big "HEY IM TRYING TO BE SNEAKY SO BE SURE TO AVOID ME" warning above my head.

  • @atyoss I guess I'm useless like white names then.

    3 - Report cheaters
4 - I like to remember friendly players
5 - I have the desire to hunt down every "xXDarkMotherFraggerXx"-like Gamertag I see.

  • @crimsonraziel Yep those 3 as well!

  • @crimsonraziel yes

  • wish i could upvote this more than once.

  • Should turn very bold red once any shot is fired.

These are the first things that came to my mind. I agree 100% you need to be able to identity other players but it popping up all the time can ruin a lot of situations like the OP said. I can see that too. Of all the things people take issues with, this one seems relatively easy to find a good compromise...how easy it is for Rare to actually fix is another.

    No sorry wrong.
Your body was visible and active so they see your name.
To be stealth you have to be 100% out of view so your name does not pop.

Emotes will allow you to hide your name already, laying or sitting out of sight works perfectly.

    Stop sucking.

you are wrong bud. you can still be out of site and catch the white heading.....there is no reason for it to be there only your friends should be up in green

even if you are in site of the enemy the name shouldnt come up because what if they wouldnt have seen you on their screen without it? numerous times I only caught someone because that popped up

i think they should remove name tags all together if you don't know what your crew mates look like shame on you.

spawn killing isn't bad it's an honor, If you are spawn killing you earned it I spawn kill pretty much every battle because I have to, If I don't they will respawn shoot at me and repair or bail defeating my hard work. If i'm in a position to spawn kill, You already lost me hearty.

  • So many people can relate to this, it could have the name of the person who killed you on the ship of the dammed ? It kind of works both ways though doesn’t it? I mean it’s quite hard to spot people without the white heading so it would be hard to defend against boardings, maybe have the white heading removed but have a system where enemy players are only highlighted whilst looking through the telescope? Just a random thought .

  • @wavey-sauce-585
    Nope.
You must have had their body part in view at least a split second.

  • @ve111a
Spawn killing me to ensure my boat sinks and your own survival is fair enough.
Any other reason and it isn't playing fair it becomes malicioius and falls under grief in in my book.

oh me too, I feel like a jerk doing it but really what other choice to I have when I'm the one that boarded to kill and check for treasure.

  • @turtie5hell

    again you miss the point

it still is a big give away. you can be on the players screen and they might not notice you if not for that give away moron

I only consider spawn killing bad if its at a port and the person you are killing has no treasure and is no threat to my crew or my treasure

  • last thing cause it was tested today

I saw an enemy on my ship only because of the white heading. he was on the other side of the screen and hidden semi well. if that didnt give it away I would have never caught em

  • @shralla

did they really reduce the range much?

  • @wavey-sauce-585 ya I noticed this annoyance too. Itd be better for the entire game if you only seen the Gt when face to face.
Ive always wanted to see if I can get a group of easy going pirates to play hide and seek on 1 of the bigger islands but the player names are whats stopping me.
From hide and seek to stealth gameplay all around it would be a good change!

  • When you pick a skinny black pirate to be a ninja at night but, the white gamertag gives you away.

So you go with the largest pirate you can for laughs because stealth means nothing.

I would like gamertags to not show up unless your close enough to fight with a sword.

  • Well, i can't see them removing the gamertags, as that would also make the titles you earn through the game pointless as well.
As Sea of Thieves is supposed to be a more social game where you interact with other crews rather than a stealth attack game it makes sense to leave them as they are.
If you are unable to board ships or get close to enemies because they see your GT, then you are not being stealthy enough! Don't blame the text, improve your tactics ;)

  • Ugh I hate it too. The other day me and my friend found this gorgeous crate of spices. There was another ship waiting for us near the outpost though, and so we decided that I would jump ship with the crate (stealth style) and that I would go sell it while my friend sailed on and distracted the enemy. But they saw my gamertag and gunned me down.
