Get More Wooden Planks!!! - A Skull Fort Tale

  • Last night, I got brave after no luck teaming up with friends and joined a random Galleon. For privacy, and because I am bad with names, we will call them Bootstrap, Davey & Cap.

When I joined only Bootstrap had his mic on, and in proxy. We agreed to grab some supplies and voyages. After one run of bananas, wood and cannons we saw Davey and Cap raising the anchor. Since they didn't talk or use emote chat thingies (real name for those?), I considered right away to leave as that makes it much more difficult for me personally to coordinate.

Alas I decided to stick it out with my new friend Bootstrap, and we posted a voyage and voted. Cap on the wheel, Davey looked at our Voyage and ignored it. I again thought to myself, this isn't going to be very fun. I almost left to go solo, when I realized Cap was sailing directly to an active skull fort. This made me decide to stick it out, and to see how it all played out. I had never done a Skull Fort before. I ran up to Cap and jumped up and down but not luck in getting any response.

We pulled up to the fort, the only ones there, and only took a few hits above water. Cap and Davey quickly went on land and started drawing hordes of skeleton into this doorway they used for sword spamming. Bootstrap ran around grabbing kegs to bring back and then proceeded to attack the skeleton too. I being a solo pirate by trade, stayed on ship for lookout and repairs.

Off in the distance I see a sloop, custom sails and headed at us off the port side. I call it out, but of course only Bootstrap hears me. He comes running, and with some fantastic teamwork he shoots himself onto their sloop with 2 crew and keeps them occupied. I grab a keg and swim beneath for the keg and boom! They sank and we only had a few hits, although we forgot in our excitement to steal resources.

On our swim back we noticed Cap and Davey standing on the port side of our ship looking at us and clapping. Tada! We get a party invite. Apparently, they wanted to see if we were useful enough to chat with which I may or may not like but understand. Cap asks me to stay on watch as my spyglass skills are unmatched, and my PvE the opposite haha. Davey leads the other two back to the fort for more skeleton piñata fun.

Only 5 minutes go by, and I see 2 sloops approaching one with the same sails as before. Closer as they come I can see both are 2 pirate crews. Once again Bootstrap cannons but first aims me and shows his skill with trajectory as I land an inch from a ladder. We manage to kill and sink one ship, Cap on the cannon shooting the other so bad they ran aground presumably repairing. Davey still going at it in the fort, the others return to him now having taken down 6 total pirates and 3 sloops. Between Bootstrap and myself, we took 10 total Wooden Planks. This was critical as we were running low on cannons and bananas, but has ZERO planks. Meaning one good shot could sink us. There were none left on the island anywhere.

Then, right as they get to the final captain skeleton an entire galleon that slipped my sights by coming behind an island, quickly turns sharp and at us. As he nears firing range, two of his crew cannon at our ship both missing but close enough for immediate danger. As soon as they cannon, I see not one, not two, but 3 sloops on the horizon all coming from almost the same location. Cap and Davey decide to come help as sinking seems pretty possible. Davey is a freaking ninja, and is chopping limbs off like its nothing. I manage a second beautiful keg by swimming just low enough to be underwater but still make out sails. It was a bloody long battle but we manage to sink the galleon. They 3 sloops worked as one only temporarily until one started to sink, then they turned on each other fighting over the sunken sloops loot. That single moment likely saved us as we again ran out of all Wooden Planks. All of our crew went ashore, finished the captain and snagged the treasure while the sloops went at each other some more.

We headed quickly to a very close outpost, now only one sloop remaining but fast on our tails. It was the two man crew sloop with the customized sails again. We actually managed to park so close, we used the ship as a barrier for cannons and as I repaired constantly from attacks the others turned in all chest for a whopping 20,000ish pile of gold! Then Bootstrap shoots himself onto their ship and pull the anchor and empty their wood supply. I again, swim below the water line and make my third successful keg delivery of the night. They only sank due to lack of resources to repair, so a lesson to you all of the importance there.

I have had great team ups over the past few days but the amount of sinks, kills, and unprovoked warfare in which we ended up on top made this a memorable night for sure. I made some great friends out of the deal, and even if we had been killed and our ship sent to the bottom of the ocean, the rush of the battles and defending with success made it worth it for me! In a game where there are no "upgrades" just a Legend Title and Cosmetics, this is how I would rather spend my time most days rather than the grind.

Thanks to my shipmates if you find this post!
    Your my boy Bootstrap!
    Love you all, Pirate Hugs!
