I think it would be a really good idea to buy the animal crates. With them being able to be stolen and then you have to either end the quest or search forever to find another one.
You could could get like the first ones for free and then be able to buy them when you've had one stolen or something, they could sell for about 20 gold.
What do you think?

Think the consensus was that not only should we be able to buy crates to stock up - or to replace lost ones from sinking, but that we could also have different missions running concurrently also to alleviate the boredom of a long gold hoarder quest through some time based pig gathering!
Yes, I agree - I can't see an obvious reason for not allowing crates to be purchased, for animals and consumables. The existence of the banana crate commendation makes me think it was intended to be part of the game though, which leads me in infer that it was removed for some reason, and if so I'd be interested to know why that was. Maybe it's just too easy to stockpile animals? Maybe there are technical problems if too many animals are on board?

I 100% agree.
We actually got sunk yesterday while doing a legendary voyage and lost all the cages we had on board. We couldn't get new crates and didn't mange to find our old ones so there was no way we could finish the voyage anymore even though we completed most of it already. If you're lucky you might be able to find a few random cages on islands, but you'd have to be really lucky to find the exact number and types you need.
Just had this happen now tonight. Halfway through a piggy merchant quest solo sloop.
A duo sloop decide to be pirates and kill me and take my crates and two pigs.
Can't do anything have to quit and restart.
Really annoying that those golden pigs will not mean anything to them without the quest. Just pop them in for a cheap 100 and away they go.
First time I have quit after half an hour playing. Need to regroup tomorrow...
