Battle Royale - Sea of Thieves edition

  • Just a loose idea for a PvP mode.

So the current map would be split into sections in a circular area where each ship would spawn in a different section spanning the entire map ultimately it would be a race to the middle while collecting adequate materials from islands/shipwrecks/barrels along the way (which would be positioned accordingly to make it balanced to sections with smaller or less islands) all the while the red sea will be pushing in making everyone have to meet in the middle.

As i said, very loose lol but just wondered what people would think to this if it was implemented in the correct and balanced way.

  • Please gods no... not ANOTHER fortnite or pubg. Go play those games if you want that experience

  • I wish these threads were against the Pirate Code...

  • Can we not Battle Royale all the games?
    thanks! :)

  • How many times will someone create a thread in these forums asking for this? And how many times will it be shot down by the community?

    Just no. Go play PUBG.

  • As an additional game mode, this wouldn't do any harm to anyone else.
I'm curious how long this general battle royale hype will last. A few years ago every game needed zombies, now everyone just wants to see this game mode everywhere...

  • Well it seems 80% of this forum seems to shun any form of PvP at least this will give people an outlet to enjoy that side of the game if they wish, nobody is giving any constructive feedback just a 'no' is not helpful.

I'd like to think of it more like the division survival mode, but i expect not so many know about this.

  • Thx bye

  • @sirliborius it would directly reduce the development resources available to the main game, so I'd argue it could indeed cause harm.

Unless you're of the position that the mystic f*****s will appear and do all the work needed to bring it to market.

  • @oldmansutii Good point, it actually would slow down the development of the game in other areas, in the worst case even at the bugfixes. So yes, there is a general drawback to it, as it's not to expect that the team will just be stocked up.

The magical f*****s could help too. I'm pretty sure that many product managers hoped for them in many projects... (that's not against Rare, just a general thing in the industry)

  • no. why copy other games. sot is pretty unique. dont kill it with more "lets copy fortnite and pubg" style modes.

  • @sirliborius I'm pretty sure the industry is b******d the moment the mystical f*****s manage to form an official union.

  • @OldManSutii Nobody said it needed to be implemented right now once the game has the content the community seems to need. Something like this would give fresh life as well as a new outlet like i said.

It was a major factor that made The Division one of the best in it's field today.

  • @doondoons to implement it within 6-8 months, or more realistically the next year, would require work on it to begin today. And again, it would detract from the resources available to further develop and improve the game we bought and signed up for.

If I want an orange, I don't buy an apple.

Might I recommend you look up Skull and Bones, that looks far more suited to a BR mode, and I'd be surprised if they don't have one planned for it.

More content will give it fresh life without needing to change the game into something else.

  • I'd say for you its more like wanting a cheese pizza but none available so you buy a pepperoni and take the meat off.

  • Except, I'm the one that's fine with the "pizza" I bought, I'm not the one asking for toppings that aren't on the menu anywhere.

  • Can we have lootboxes too? or is that last years thing?

Except you're not because you want more toppings (content). Rare have always said from day one it's about the journey before everything else. I have a great time every night i'm close to pirate legend and i think the game is just fine i would just like somewhere to PvP reliably in this game i enjoy

  • I wouldn't mind a Deathmach mode (or something along) with options (teams, map size, respawns, etc) where you could go directly into battles.

  • @doondoons this has been posted many times before. I am personally for the idea. I think it will be a good way to have a more combat focused and livelier gameplay as many of my crew are getting bored Bc of how scarce good fights are and lack of content.

A lot of people bash it not really sure why. I personally don’t think it would be hard to implement as SoT has a great base to build off of and a BR type game could easily be implemented. And the Fortnight/PUBG argument is moot for 2 reasons. 1) those games are popular why would you not want to increase SoT popularity by following that model. 2) because if they design it to fit SoT it would have unlimited respawn and loss when your ship sinks then the gameplay wouldn’t even be comparable to those games. It would basically be a severwide skull fort battle with 25-50 ships.

A competitive game mode will bring more attention and popularity to SoT. And more popularity means more money for Rare and more content for the players.

  • @doondoons You must have some magical ability there to know my own feelings and thoughts better than I. Have you considered a role in diplomacy? You could clear up so many problems in the world if you can do the same with anyone! World peace incoming folks!

And if you can't tell, that's sarcasm. I'm mightily confident I'm fully aware of my own thoughts and feelings on this and other subjects thanks. In this case specifically, as said before, I am fine with the game I purchased, which includes the announced plans for content.

A BR mode would be so far outside that I would be less than impressed if it came along. Again, Skull and Bones is on the horizon if you're after a more PvP focused piracy title.

  • @i-am-lost-77 Fully agree, it wouldn't necessarily be a battle royale mode it would be different but with similarities in some areas.

but you are absolutely right, these type games are popular because they are fun. fun draws in crowds which draws in money which means more staff to create the content people so desire.

  • @oldmansutii I'm confused what you are implying here? you are saying you don't want them to be taken away from the 'main game' development which in turn means you want more content? i' don't see how that is knowing your thoughts better than yourself.

You are just sounding more and more entitled every post you make. My opinion is i would like a PvP mode, your opinion is not, okay it is not but you don't need to make snide comments to me because of what i would like to see in the game.

with own ideas ok, but all you did i copy copy paste, HELL NO!

My "snide" comment was in response to this. Don't presume to tell someone how they think or feel, some of us don't take kindly to it.

I'm sorry for your memory loss but you said it here.

Again, for me a PvP mode would improve the game. So in a sense, you are telling me my own thoughts and feelings and that they aren't legitimate. What a nice guy!

You remind me of those stereotypical r******s on southpark.

  • Gotta hand it to the fat t**d that created PUBG, he took an old concept that has existed since videogames were a thing (You know, something called deathmatch), put it on a huge map, called it "battle royale" and duped millions of morons into thinking it is some cool new thing.

However, I am in favor of putting you PvP folks on your own server so you'd leave the rest of us who want to enjoy the game as it was intended alone.

  • No. Battle. Royale.

  • @doondoons Actually no, at no point have I stated anything like "You are happy with this game doondoons!". I'm not denying or telling you your own thoughts or feelings, I'm stating my own opinion which is in disagreement to yours. Simple as.

You however did say "Except you're not" in response to my statement that I am satisfied with the product I purchased - which actually includes any announcements of planned future content by the way. That most certainly is attempting to tell me how I feel / think about something.

And yea, I might be expecting more content, but returning to the previous analogy, the content I'm expecting are on the menu (the menu being comprised of future content that has been announced / hinted at), a BR mode is not.

Please, bring more disparaging remarks ye who desires a BR mode in a game it's completely unsuited to...

  • @doondoons Well I think the problem most of us have with a Battle Royale Mode is that it takes time away from the devs which could be used otherwise....for example more content, bug fixes etc.

  • @oldmansutii said in Battle Royale - Sea of Thieves edition:

This is not stating your opinion and could make other people feel bad, if you want to get all diplomatic you need to make sure you don't post stupid childish remarks like a 12 year old entitled brat.

  • @doondoons How are either of those not stating my opinion?

The first even begins with "I wish". That's a statement that I wish, not you, not some other.

And if the second has the possibility of making you feel bad, then you shouldn't be interacting with anyone from the outside world. Do you get offended if people say "hello" in certain ways?

  • i would love that idea, it would be a totally different battle royale game.

  • @peteloaf777 but a battle royale with ships and the combat of SOT would be awsome and totally different from any other battle royale game.
