The lonely drunk, neither friend or foe

  • Played with a friend, his wife and another friend of his in a crew of 4 last night aiming to get 20 chests on board for the achievement. We are a friendly bunch who won't engage in conflict unless we need to defend ourselves.
At Thieves Haven I dived off to kill the cannon firing skeleton so my crew could anchor the galleon in the lagoon and set about solving the riddle.
I picked up a skull I found on the beach and started making my way inland to the skeleton up the hill where I later dropped the skull to draw my cutlass and defeat it.

Just then my mate called out that another ship was entering the lagoon behind our now anchored galleon and that we should all race back to defend our ship.
At first he said it was a galleon but then changed the call to it being a sloop. None the less, I picked up the skull and made a bee-line to the ship.

It was only a solo player but his actions were very suspicious. I was expecting him to have a partner that would board our ship from another direction.
The solo guy honestly looked like Jesus. Hair, beard and clothing. He had a speech bubble above his head but none of us could hear him as he just stood on our bow sprit.
We all tried to communicate with him to no avail. After a few minutes my mate said that he could hear the guy, very faintly. So we all shut-up to help them communicate.
The guy started drinking and defied our instruction to not go below deck. He ignored us asking him to leave our ship and continued to drink and vomit all over the mid deck.
Another of our crew said that he had boarded the sloop and set it sailing back out of the lagoon in hopes that the guy would go after it. That didn't work.

We had a collection of chests and other loot hidden near the ammo chest so I stood next to the stairs with pistol drawn to prevent him getting too close to it. I was getting both paranoid and frustrated with his time consuming drunken invasion.
A few times I said that if he doesn't leave I will shoot him but my mate said that he would handle this guy and that I should just start on the quest.

He eventually left, minus supplies, to chase his ship.
Although his intentions may have been friendly it was long a tense pause in our pursuit that should have taken no less than two minutes. I'm sure it would have been less stressful and much quicker had we all been able to communicate but it killed our momentum so we cashed in and went for the skull fort instead.
After that uncontested and very quick victory we started thinking that we might now be the only players on that server and possible could have finished our pursuit of 20 chests.
    I guess we'll never know.
