I think it would be super cool to maybe have a detachable row boat on galleons for loot/pirate transport from ship to island and back, giving an added convenience/bonus to players who get galleon crews together.

Yeah I've often thought that as well - because of the deeper draught on a galleon, you often can't get close to the shore - so a long boat or a small dinghy even, that you could tow behind the galleon, or lash to the deck, would be ideal! Row to shore , or mount a small sail. Awesome! Help you to get into those hard to access places, and certainly helpful in shallow water.
Stash all your chests in the boat and transport them back to the galleon. Also helpful for unloading.
On that topic - why not have a sack for skulls, which can contain say 5 at a time, instead of having to carry each individually...
