The Chest of Wrath: Another New Chest Concept!

  • alt text
    The Chest of Wrath

As you travel across the barreling blue waves on the Sea of Thieves, a pirate learns many lessons on how to survive, and thrive. One imperative lesson that is learned more often than not is this: Staying out of sight and remaining subtle can be powerful allies when transporting your haul of loot back to an Outpost.

No other legendary chest across the Sea of Thieves robs a pirate of this luxury like the furious Chest of Wrath.

The smoldering Chest of Wrath is a notoriously mystical cache of treasure, known for its rightfully given namesake. The chest itself is said to have a burning anger that becomes evident as it slowly heats up, hotter and hotter the longer it is left to fume. Soon enough, the chest begins bellowing smoke from its open vents, pouring out a colossal tower of smog that can be seen for miles and miles!

While pollution may be the least of your problems from the Chest of Wrath, one thing is certain; Pirates who see that tower of smog will come for miles to claim it and the rest of your haul for themselves!

Pirate Legends do tell of a way to cease the enraged spirit within the cursed chest, however…

“To keep this chest from growing hotter, sooth its soul with salty water!”

The chest remains cool and calm when submerged in briny water, or will cool itself when splashed with a bucket full. Be warned, however, as this is but a temporary relief from the chests mystical powers.

While the ironclad stove contains flames of fury and anger, the treasure from the Gold Hoarder’s will be bountiful for those willing to risk bringing it back to port.

The face of the chest pays homage to the legendary pirate Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, whom infamously tied burning cannon rope into his beard to intimidate foes and friends alike, and scare the devil himself into his enemies.

Be wary, fellow swashbucklers, for the chest does not grow enraged from being aboard a vessel alone… the cursed box also enflames when sitting on dry land! So keep a bucket of salty brine on hand in case the temperate treasure chest grows enraged again!

*This is my concept for the Chest of Wrath, another new Treasure Chest for Sea of Thieves!

What are your thoughts? Would you want to see this in game? What ideas do you have for magic chests? How can this one be improved?

I look forward to your feedback again, and hope you continue to have a good times on the high seas!*

  • Interesting idea

  • @wackad00dled00 I LOVE this idea. It would be hell to have this chest AND the chest of Sorrows on you ship at the same time though. XD
Or maybe you could use mister Sorrows to keep mister Wrath calmed down. XD

Question though. Would leaving the chest in a low layer of water in your ship keep it cool? I guess it shouldn't because it would be super easy to cheese your way to an outpost that way.
Maybe it should only cool when splashed with a bucket? Just so there are not going to be any ways to cheese it. (Even though you could splash it in your boat, bucket up the same water and splash it again.)

I really love the idea, but it seems easy to cheese. (Sorry that this post is a bit ramble-ish. Was kinda just coming up with ideas to cheese it while typing. XD)

I'd love to have this chest in game though!

  • @wackad00dled00 Improve? Dude if you aren't a part of the art team for Rare, currently then I'm going to start asking for refunds because your talents are being wasted on this forum and not immediately implemented. This is a golden masterpiece and rare should be blowing ur phone up.

  • Yeah agreed...seriously they are hiring!

  • @drakkenblood like ppl crying on these forums that content is lacking and rightfully so and this guy is just providing free treasure chest concepts and artwork?

  • I think this is a great idea but what about this...

When it's hot it deals damage to your ship or anyone who touches it, and when you cool it off it produces the huge plume of steam. This way it's more difficult to cheese it. You're either taking damage or giving away your position. It could even have a "maximum heat" value which makes the player unable to even stand near the chest without taking heavy damage, forcing you to cool it off once in a while and not just patch up the holes or eat bananas.

  • @wackad00dled00 dude that’s sick freaking idea!

  • I really like this idea! =))

  • I like this idea. It reminds me of someone else's idea, about a glowing chest (it glows because it's hot) that can only be extinguished with water.

  • @wackad00dled00 I think this chest would be a great edition to the game

  • Will put the “chest of wrath” in the crow’s nest to signal all pirate in the world that Ladyboi Pirate is here and waiting to sink all ship on sight 😈

  • @wackad00dled00 Great idea and loving the artwork so props to Alfredo Intoci!

As @YaCantDutchThis said there might ways to circumvent it by throwing a bucket of water at the bottom of your ship and putting it in the layer of water.
Your description already states though that it has to be submerged submerged in water, so to circumvent that in a way @YaCantDutchThis described would mean to fill almost the entire bottom layer of the ship in water making it easier for others to sink you. Splashing water on it would only stop it for a few seconds, so even if someone uses a layer of water to continually splash it they would have to do it the entire time, basically reducing the crew size by one. I guess that way would be a just annoying enough trade off, people that are constantly fighting off other pirates wouldn't want their hull to be flooded just to be safe I guess.
Another option to prevent that the chest gets so hot it would actually evaporate the water over time, but that could give you benefits in other situations I guess.

Love the idea, keep up the amazing work.

  • @fishst1ck Ah, that indeed fixes the problem. Either having to splash it completely or keep it in a lot of water.
I was also thinking that if you keep it in a lot of water in your ship, maybe the water damps and the water will go down so you need to get new water every now and then? Just to add a little bit of difficulty to- Oh damn I only just realised you also read that. XD

Of course it would be a benefit in other situations, but not if the process is slow enough to just be a slight advantage if someone tries to sink your ship for example IMO.

  • @yacantdutchthis maybe it evaporates the water in your ship?

  • @mighty-ace123 Funny how someone suggested that, and right after two people(Including me!) also suggest it. XD
But I do agree that that might be a good idea.

  • Cool chest concept! Upvoted!
