Okay, so while I was at work today I played Sea of Thieves music in the background, and I got bit by a rather creative bug, resulting in my writing of lyrics for the tune Grogg Mayles. As it turns out, the song seems to already have lyrics, so I have not looked at them until finishing mine so as not to have outside influence. But here's what my brain churned out:
Sing-along tune
Here's the tale of ol' Grogg Mayles, yo-ho!
Hear the tale of ol' Grogg Mayles!
He's the old sea dog who loves his grog
And he drinks it as he sails!
He longs for gold and fortune to fill up his store
But for a lady's touch does he desire more...
His scraggly beard and yellow, toothless face
All drive away the strumpets he gives chase.
He got no gold, but world-wide fame
As women groan to hear his name
The man who tries but always fails
The name of ol' Grogg Mayles!
verse 2
Though his mates said, "Boats are meant to float."
Not the ships of ol' Grogg Mayles!
Ships of this old l***y spend more time
Underwater than ye whales!
He drank so much they say his speech was always slurred,
And even his own crew could ne'er relay a word.
Survivors tell of all the ships he sunk,
But they were his, for he was always drunk!
He left the wheel to dance around
Until he ran his ship aground
And to this day, we all sing tales
Of groggy ol' Grogg Mayles!
verse 3
Here's the tale of ol' Grogg Mayles, yo-ho!
Hear the tale of ol' Grogg Mayles!
He's a legend now; his songs ring out
Carried on by yonder gales!
He chanced upon a crew of ruthless pirates cold.
They knew that only grog could make him talk so bold.
The pirates spared, in pity, this fool's crew.
They scorned him fierce, then argued what to do.
They made him walk the plank that day;
He swam six miles half-drunk, they say.
They found him wand'ring Shipwreck Bay
And so on lives ol' Grogg Mayles!
