As as PC gamer and Xbox One owner forcing crossplay between PC and the Xbox is a very bad idea for many reasons. It is nice to have the ability to play with friends betweent the two. There are many aspects of the game that give a PC gamer the upper hand not only in combat, but in the overall build/functions of the game that are not being discussed.
First of all, the biggest argument and most commonly spoke of is the controls. PC will always have more advanced flexible controls with precision aiming in combat. On PC each item in the inventory can also be easily accessed just by pressing one key on the keyboard rather then having to cycle through a menu or sub-menus that are a bit clunky and dose not always work when an Xbox One owner attempts to equip an item. This allows the PC player to accomplish multiple tasks faster than any Xbox One owner in the middle of battle and/or making ship repairs. Even if an Xbox One owner were to use a third party keyboard and mouse adapter, they would only have the same functional options as the controller making this a game breaking difference.
Next up is communication. Playing Sea of Theives on PC is nice because rather than using pre-set emotes we can type in our own messages in to communicate properly. While playing on PC there is also the ability to hear in game chat and be in a private party at the same time to relay the information to your crew without anyone else listening on your conversation. Being able to communicate with players in the game and chat privately simutaneously is a huge advantage for scheming against other players.
All depending on the power of a PC gamers machine, they will most likely have a farther draw distance than any Xbox One owner allowing them to make advanced tactical decision before players either engage in battle or flee. Planning ahead in any PvP enviroment is very important, but having the advantage of a PC gamer being able to identify other players in the distance before console owners are able to render a PC gamer's ship is very unfair.
The majority of gamers that go out and spend thousands of dollars on PC for maximum preformace are very competitvely aggressive players, opposed to console owners that come from a more casual community of gamers. It is great that these two communities can be brought together, however, this might also be were people become upset with the hadware and accessory advantages over Xbox One owners. It would be a great if there was keyboard and mouse support for Sea of Theives on console, but this would have to wait for Microsft to make the support official. If all players had the option to choose between crossplay or not, it would keep everyone enjoying the game together in three differnt possible communities which ever they prefer better without any complaints.
Crossplay (I Own Both)
@nitrosus You don't have to spend thousands of dollars on a PC?
a machine with ryzen 5 onboard graphics plays SoT at 60 fps medium quality and costs probably just as much as an xbox one x, so that's not a very good point. The other point I keep making to people is you're barking up the wrong tree. What Rare needs to do is add m&kb support on the xbox, because crossplay is Microsoft's thing, and Microsoft will not let it's crossplay posterchild slip through their fingers, there is nothing Rare can do about this.
but having mouse on the console means that the console players who are hardcore enough to care can still use it.

I also run both. When I'm in chest collection/sail mode I go to my xbox when I feel like pvp I head over to my pc.... almost feel like I'm cheating lol
I do the same lol

This. You add keyboard and mouse support for xbox that will end any cross play argument forever. If the still say it's not fair now I need to buy a keyboard and mouse. well, So did I when I built my pc.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't but cannot confirm as I have a gaming pc.

lol! Then why are people still having this argument?
- There is no good reason to buy a Xbox
- If you still decide to buy a Xbox, you should know of it's limitations
- You can remap buttons on your Xbox controller and increase sensitivity
- Elite controller has more buttons
- XIM exists so you can use M/KB
- Nothing prevents you from using Discord or Skype or whatever on another device while playing on your Xbox
Xbox players seem to be more casual in terms of skill, but they are certainly taking things very seriously on the forums. If they care so much about the disadvantages, there are enough ways to mitigate them that don't involve changing a fundamental design principle of this game. I'm also pretty sure that official M/KB support will come eventually for the Xbox, especially if these complaints get louder.
I'm also quite hopeful that the next one or two generations of consoles will be the last, as we move on to just streaming games. The segregation between gamers because of systems and also the horribly practice of exlusive games can't end soon enough.@rdizz said in Crossplay (I Own Both):

the Xbox platform itself does support mouse & keyboard, xbox's designers have stated that it is up to game devs to enable support or not, but the OS supports it already, it is literally just flip a switch.
@Varples If you read the post then you read that I mentioned there is no official support for mouse and keyboard in games, unless the game has mouse and keyboard ofcourse. You can buy a third party adapter for the Xbox One to use a mouse and keyboard that emulates the controller. The only thing is it will only provde the basic functions that the controller provides.
Also, on the other note, most people these days use 4k televisions or monitors for their PC.@nitrosus said in Crossplay (I Own Both):

@sir-rhavi Gotta love people pulling statistics outta thin air.
On the Steam Hardware Survey note, it's quite literally a bad decision to make this game Windows 10 only. Floating around ~35% of the Steam user base. Bye bye, pool of 65% of PC gamers. (Edit: whoa, it actually jumped up a lot in the latest Survey)

that's 72% of steam users using 1080p as their primary.
4k is up to... 0.71% apperantly. up by 0.22%.

personally I still miss w7. I have a 1080 and still only use 1080p. 4k is to me, still unrealistic its VERY expensive for the hardware and for the gpu to run it efficiently. I only know one person that uses 4k out of all my friends, And that's because he also owns a boat and has disposable income from working his butt off. Me? I'm way to poor for that lol.

Hey now, I have a 4k TV... 2, actually.
I just prefer not needing 2 incredibly expensive graphics cards to breach 60 fps. 144hz all day.
@ve111a
Imo, there is no point in using 4k anyway. Games will just be huge, and you will have no discernible difference. Maybe in a few years, but then our GPUs will have realtime raytracing to worry about. :)@ve111a said in Crossplay (I Own Both):

I still prefer max detail settings over resolution, so 4k gaming isn't a thing yet to be honest. Nothing out there, besides ridiculous titan vs or SLI setups can actually do 4k max settings 60 fps. I can see it making sense on a console, on a 50 inch TV from 10 feet away, but not on PCs.

same and maaaaaan having high frames in SoT is what dreams are made of... Ill take frames over res any day.
@nebenkuh Games recognize the MKB as a controller when using XIM. So all the sensitivity/button refresh restrictions that are in place for controller users still apply. You still can't 360 spin in a second. Sure, it can improve your game, but you'll still only be as good as the best controller user. Hell, you can't even use text chat.
@hot-juicy-pie
So basically the turning speed is capped, even if you would turn sensitivity and mouse dpi all the way up?@hot-juicy-pie
So if that cap was removed controllers could turn just as fast. Why dont they just do that?
