Please Improve the Update Process for PC

  • Currently, the process includes me logging on, inviting friends to play only to find out there is a game incompatibility. The first time this happened I had no idea what was going on since there is no obvious avenue to updating the product. Finally I stumbled upon just trying to start the game from the app store. This is where I get the White Screen of Updating. There is no indicator of the process or even if there is an update happening. All I know is at some time in the future when I retry to play the game through the app store it actually starts and is updated.

@aliasmask You need to turn on background updates for windows apps through the windows store. Then the game will auto update and you'll never have a problem.

It also lets other windows apps update which is annoying but I guess thats the price of convenience.

Thanks for the clue as to where I can find the updates. My autoupdate is actually on but doesn't happen until I go to the microsoft store and click on the ..., Select Downloads and Updates and then double click Sea of Thieves.

I to despise the windows store this will help. Thank you.

  • @aliasmask Thats weird, maybe data throttling, or that might be caused by the 'allow apps to run in the background' setting since the microsoft store is a windows app.

@Ve111a The windows 10 apps are a massive cluster@#$%. Their complete invisibility to other programs hurts my brain, and their stupid settings make me angry.

man I hear you, I went looking for it once and was like "um what where is it installed". The store has been nothing but is sues for me where it says its ready to play and updated to launch the game to find out it lied forcing me to reboot and re-dl the entire game before twice ( I live in the country on a 15/1 internet connection that's troublesome for dling a large game) Not to mention having to have 2 apps open to play the game, xbox and store.

  • I just wish the windows store would tell me how big a download is right away.

  • I would prefer if the game itself had an "available update" notice upon start up.
It could state the version and file size with an option to proceed or cancel.

I write software and apply it to all of my apps. Takes one minute of code. Job done.

Sure this is a game but it's in most if not all software these days and with this incomplete "early access" they call a game, it will make good use of anything that will help with updates.

More so because we have to go and search for update info each time we read on the forums here of any update. I'm like "There's another update? Where, when?"

  • This is a thing to forward to MS not so much Rare.
