Skeleton Key Sale/Despawn & Treasure Despawn

  • So I don't see to many people talk about this topic and it is kind of hard to find an answer so hopefully people can give me a good idea on these questions...

    1. Can the skeleton key be sold? Can it "despawn"? I'm assuming it will so whats the timeframe on this

    2. Say one were to act like an assassin pirate lol and dump treasure overboard in the middle of the ocean then leave the area and come back to that spot in the ocean to later pick up the treasure... can this be done or does it despawn ? If so whats the despawn rate timewise...? .. I have heard 4 hours if on land but nobody talks about treasure that's dumped off board in an effort to take the best valuables really quickly.

  • @vapor1080 So, to my knowledge the Skeleton Fort Key cannot be sold. I don't know the despawn time, though I have seen videos of people hiding it on an island for a couple hours while waiting for other ships to give up the hunt at the fort.

The overboard treasure in the ocean sinks and then despawns, relatively quick...It starts sinking after like 5-10 mins? But will stay on land for quite some time.

I personally think that floating treasure should stay much longer than it does. I will say one time we had sunk and I swam a skull over to a rock island that I could not climb. But, it was shallow.
By the time we got back (10 minutes or so) it had sunk to the bottom which was probably 10-15 ft deep.

I have noticed if you are in the middle of the ocean where the bottom cannot be seen it just sinks into the abyss.
One other time we sank a galleon with Skele fort loot, but, grabbed the fort chest and skull and went and turned in. So when we headed back, loot was under water and bugged out to where it could not be picked up.

    1. No sale and yes despawn
    2. Treasure eventually sinks to the bottom of the ocean. Timer unknown. It seems determined by whether it's your voyage treasure vs. an opponent's.

I wish nothing despawned but I think this is a server load compromise.

When you said it sunk 10 to 15 feet did it despawn when it hit the ground or it remained there for a while?

Hopefully others can put some more experiences down because we tested the despawn with a gun powder barrel and it stayed afloat for at least a half hour

I think gun powder works differently. Those can be place like mines in the water, so to keep this as a viable tactic they shouldn't despawn ever.
Treasure starts to sink after a few minutes though. You can reset the timer by grabbing the loot and dropping it again. This will make it start floating back to the top.

  • @truthfullist56 True, guess I'll try it later when im doing my level 38 GH voyage and i visit an island for a single castaway crate lol :)

I feel it too... I'm at 36 or 37 now and when I go solo I usually only get like 1k per voyage... When I go with a crew we have someone that just got to 49 last night. I can't wait to see our rewards after he gets to 50.

  • @vapor1080 It remained there on the ground under water till we got back.

  • We sunk a ship that had over 20 items and after about 5 minutes they started to sink.

I had to float below items and grab and let go of them like I was juggling them until my team could swim over and snag them all.

I would like them to float for 10-15 min.

  • Different items float for different amounts of time. Skulls sink first, followed by chests, animal crates, merchant crates and resource crates, and then gunpowder. I’m not sure on exact times and I haven’t sunk a key to test it.

  • Keys will sink in about 3 minutes and despawn at 4 minutes

the key really is finding the messages in bottles / shipwrecks and adding that to your voyage haul. The Skulls really seem to give you the most gold for your time

  • @fun-director good to know , the strong hold chest had been dropped in the deep end of the ocean and we only managed to get the skull. At least i have a better idea for the next unlucky raiders :D lol

What about chalices , relics, etc

  • @vapor1080
I believe they sink with chests, maybe a little later
