Cursed cannonball suggestion

  • How about with cursed cannonballs instead of damaging the ship the cursed cannonballs spawn a ghostly skeleton or enemy of some type on their ship, This in turn distracts them while you try to bombard with regular cannons or something. Of course this could be OP if not implemented correctly so a max amount of enemies spawned on ship at any one time should be implemented too.

Wasn't there something about cursed cannonballs in the roadmap video (or did he really say cursed canibals like I heard)?

I'm guessing they can add loads of effects that would hinder another crew. I quite like your suggestion but the idea of the entire ship overflowing with skeletons might indeed get OP fast so limiting might help.

So just some random ideas for curses:

    • Spawning skeletons
    • Groggy canonballs to make the pirates drunk
    • Smoke / mist to blur vision
    • Wind to make the ship turn
    • Something heavy to slow the other ship down
    • Summoning a storm

I'm sure there can be a lot of different ideas implemented to add some fun and competetive advantage during ship battles.

I'm just wondering how you would aquire cursed cannonballs.

  • @terron29 The cursed cannonball could be 0,10% to 2% chance happening that occurs on random.
The numbers should be tested on how to keep it real, but I like this idea for it brings in another fun yet tactical element to the game.

  • @slinkierdisc667 Yeah that's a good idea, an rng factor to help even out the balance, numbers would need to be higher though. like 10 percent per cannon or something. thats only 1 in 10 hits or so that would land a monster spawn. If it was any less than that people wouldn't bother and would only use regular cannons. unless the cursed cannons made holes AND had a small chance to spawn an enemy but then that makes regular cannons redundant. UNLESS cursed cannonballs are found like red barrels and are a rare commodity :)

  • In the era of wooden ship battle, HEATED shot was a thing. If ghost or cursed rigging/steerage is not a feasible distraction, how about fire?
The fun thing about heated shot was that it was super dangerous for the firing crew as well. Use heated shot for more damage, but with a chance for your cannons to fire early. Maybe you have 3 seconds after the cannon ball is loaded before it fires.

  • different kind of cannon balls like the chain shot, bar shot and your normal cannon ball.
