Tips to be a better pirate or crew mate

  • Just a quick list of things that you should do to be a good crew mate.

    • Always empty your pockets before going on an island, shipwreck, or see barrels floating. This way you can grab bananas, wood planks, and cannonballs to fill the ship
    • Fill the ship stock whenever and where ever possible
    • If you aren't driving, work the sails
    • If you don't have a mic, get familiar with the in game communication options and use them. The available commands change depending on what is in your hands
    • Always make sure there is a look out on the ship when loot is onboard
    • See a gun powder barrel, take it to the ship
    • Everyone likes to put stuff in different places, it typically works best if you just conform to what the crew is doing
    • If you are the more experienced one on board....share that information. The only way people can get better or GitGud, is if they learn from those more experienced
    • Never sacrifice the ship or loot for a glory moment
    • Avoid the anchor, use the sails. If you are stopped with sails up, raise the anchor for a faster get away or defensive maneuver. This is even more relevant when you are sailing a sloop solo
    • If you are on a Galleon....help raise the anchor when you hear it start
    • Use those gun powder barrels
    • If you are on a sloop and being chased by a galleon, head up wind. He can't catch you up wind
    • If you are on a galleon chasing a sloop use angles to block up wind running
    • Only anchor turn when it is safe to do so, can't count how many ships I have boarded from bad anchor turns
    • If you are on your ship and you hear water splashing....someone is coming aboard
    • If you board an enemy ship, drop anchor immediately
    • Call out other ships when you see them
    • ALWAYS scan the horizon when leaving your ship to search an island or shipwreck

    Did I miss anything?

  • I used to always drop anchor immediately but my new strategy is eat all their bananas and only drop anchor after I've finished or my cover is blown. People typically know someone is on board the moment you drop their anchor, and eating all the bananas seems to be a devastating tactic. If you can get below deck and eat all their bananas and let them know about it, they'll scuttle the ship more often than not. I can't remember a ship that didn't scuttle once they knew their bananas were gone. I'm not really sure why, though, considering you can just sail to a fort and stack 100 bananas in 5 minutes. Anyway, thought it was worth mentioning.

  • You didn't miss anything (Except: Always put all your cannonballs in the top cannonball barrel), but some of these are a LOT more important than others. As a quick rundown of priority, communication always comes first. If you don't have a mic, use the text chat or don't play the game. After that comes organization: where to put loot and supplies, who does what in which scenarios, etc. Then comes learning the controls, then everything else.

  • @actually-a-frog yeah I typically aim to fill both barrels
