I found a Random Chest Buried, with no map or clue... W*F is this a thing?

  • My friends and I were doing a mystic quest of killing some skelimen, and while we were waiting for the second wave to spawn, I randomly took out my shovel and dug where I stood in the sand and found a Seafarer's Chest. we had no map, no quest for this island other than the fighting of the skellimen. Is it even possible to find random chests like this?
Like winning on a lotto scratchers.

  • What a god awful lotto prize ahah shame it was a seafarers chest...

  • After last weeks update I'm pretty much finding random loot on every island.

  • since launch you can get random loot, in fact day 1 of the game i found like 2-3 good chests.

  • Now i am more motivated to randomly dig. Always wanted this to happen with me but it never did. :(

  • I'd like to believe this is true but I remain skeptical.

Dont have to dig. They are just there.

  • @falseprophet115
The first time I played I had no idea what to do. I was with randoms that were having the same problem too. We sailed to some island and I started digging in random spots. I too found a random seafarers chest with no mission.

I've also found a few decent chests just laying there on the beach. I found 2 chests of 1000 grogs in the last few days just from looking around. The one I found last night was a lucky catch. I was looking at my map in the sloop, plotting my course to the next island. I exited the map and just barely spotted the chest on the beach behind my ship. Couldn't believe the luck there, I would've missed it had I parked at any other angle.

  • New player here, does the flashy trinkets and bottles I have found on random beaches happen regularly as well like your lucky chest? I cannot remember the name but I found something that looked like a ruby on a golden egg shaped thing that was very small last night. I was "thieved" on my first return with loot so I never got to try but assume those things can be sold back at the outpost as well as chests?

Hoping that wasn't a million to one thing that I lost, this dang sea is full of thieves!

  • @xxxrookxxx There are quite a few of those. I usually try to do a lap of every island I go on looking for those or messages in bottles or journal books. Some of my favourite adventures and best treasure have come from those.

  • Hell I only played for maybe a week or so after launch and found numerous random chests just chilling on any given island...

  • @rdizz @CorpseQ @Chizbad
The OP is talking about BURIED treasure.

    @Cpt-Peach-Beard
This is indeed 100% true. As I described above, this is how I found my very first chest in this game. At the time, I thought that was how it worked...

I'm wondering if in these cases we had just stolen someone's voyage.

Lucky you (: First day I played this game (betas) I ran around all day trying that!

You can find those trinkets fairly often, but you were very lucky(and subsequently unlucky) to find that specific one. The jeweled golden egg is worth like 1200 smackers to the gold hoarders. Most of the trinkets are around 90-200 moneys.

On topic, I often wondered if you could dig a random chest or whether or not you could inadvertently dig up another player's chest before they arrived with their map. I hope this doesn't cause offense, but without video evidence, I remain skeptical about digging random chests. I'll be doing a lot of unsolicited digging in the future.

  • @rdizz those I always find. I thought he found one after digging.

  • @ttargetpractice
I promise you that this is true. This is how I found my first chest. No mission, no clue what I was doing, just digging randomly on an island.

  • @truthfullist56 I've done a bit of research, and found that you can't "steal" a buried treasure from another's voyage until the one with the map or quest digs it up first.
Example: If I find the treasure from my map and tell you exactly where it is, you will not find it. However, if I shovel it up once and decide to leave it there, you can then finish the dig and take it.

I don't know how credible that may be, but that's what I've found so far. Will try to keep posted.

Can you link where you got that info? I don't necessarily believe this is the case, I was just very surprised when I found out that you're supposed to get a voyage to find chests. It was a simple explanation of how the chest got there.
If you can't steal a GH voyage, then I guess it was just sheer dumb luck.

  • @truthfullist56 Well, its at least what some people on another forum post are saying, that's why I said I wasn't sure about its credibility.

    Here's the other posts: LINK

  • @falseprophet115
Meh, credible enough for me. They had no reason to lie about it, so I believe it.

I guess I'm just really lucky. Maybe I'll just dig around later and see what I can find.

  • I've always wondered this and will be trying now lol.

If this was off the coast of Kraken's Fall then that was my chest that I dug up from a Message in a Bottle map. I then foolishly trusted a crew member to carry it back to the ship. He ran off in the wrong direction (idiot!), couldn't find our ship (drunk fool), went swimming (why?), got eaten by a shark and then could remember where he died. Muppet!
Anyway, if this was indeed MY thousand grog chest please leave it in the tavern on Ancient Spire and I'll pick it up next time I log on.

  • @truthfullist56 @Ve111a Good luck on your Gold Hunting. Let us know if anything bizarre like this happens to you

  • @falseprophet115 I've found my fair share of random unburied chests on islands. For some reason that's where I find most of my captains chests. I however have never had luck with random digging and gave up thinking it was hopeless.

  • Its possible.

If you have OOS quest in an island and Ladyboi pirates (my crew) anchor over that island and see that, we will take out those skull for us alone. If you try to steal from us where we steal from you, we will sink your ship(sorry its a pirate thing)
This happened to me when i was new... they kill the skeleton and took my skull 💀

  • @ve111a I've found some random chests either floating in the water near islands or just like on the surface of the ground, but last night was the first random one I found buried.
In fact, my first chest when I started playing the game was a Chest of Sorrow chilling on the cliff side of Smuggler's Bay. Good thing there was an outpost near by to take it to quickly.

lol if we have one on the ship someone is carrying it while holding on the the ladder lol.

  • @xxxrookxxx Not sure if you really want me to tell you this, but a few weeks ago after launch I was sailing along and spotted a twinkle on a beach. Stopped the ship and it was a bejeweled egg. Turned it into the gold hoarders for 775 gold coins. I was super excited. Then a few days later I found a bejeweled jug or goblet thing and I think it was at least 500 gold coins. Anything that says bejeweled is a good find. Sadly I have not found any since. But did find a Captain's chest out in the open on an island I was fighting for a skeleton skull. So hopefully there will be more stuff laying around as that makes you want to explore more.
Sorry you got robbed, darn pirates.

  • I know random loot is indeed a thing. I didn't know buried random loot was.

  • i am intrigued by this alot didn't know you could find random dug up treasure.

  • @osimmity-smash Yea, if this happens to you, keep us posted on it to help verify.

  • If it was buried, it must have been part of another crew's voyage. They might have been halfway across the map when their voyage suddenly completed itself.

    That would be funny.

  • @kungfustu72
    That's unfortunate lol
Not sure where I was though... I want to say Cannon Cove, but I could be wrong.

    @FalseProphet115
No luck with random chests last night... I ended up doing a bogus skull fort though. Took like 2 hours to fight off a persistent galleon, had to hide the key and come back (after restocking/reskinning the ship), finally got the loot and only made like 10k... VERY disappointing haul...

I have also tested it first-hand. If a non-crew member tries to dig where you have your X, nothing will happen. Until I see video proof of someone digging treasure without a voyage, Ill be skeptical.
