Bounty Skulls Talking

  • This is a really small suggestion, but I think it would add a lot of atmosphere to the game. I propose that bounty skulls should grumble, complain, and shout at their captors as they return them to the outpost. Maybe even shake a little bit in the players' hands as if they are attempting to wriggle free.

I think it would be additionally hilarious if the bounty skulls start to get more apologetic and scared as you're about to turn them in, knowing what lies in store for them if "they" (Order of Souls) get a hold of them.

They can also talk about things like, their life back in the day, their exploits, crew, how dangerous they were, etc.

  • @barakye could have a 2 minute long story of their life on the voyage if a crew member holds on to it. Only problems i see is repetitiveness and when youre trying to sneak a skull away from an enemy ship, and if its talking that could alert your presence

  • @awesomechad888 That's true. I think they should only talk if being held, so you can control when/how much they talk. Also, only the crew that has possession would hear them speaking, as not to give anyone away.

  • I mean this could be good if it wasn't like the same bunch of phrases over and over.
However, with the amount of skulls you'll carry, there's no way they can have enough voice acting to fill that time. Unless, maybe, they started pulling stories from Tavern Tales section or something, and still that's a lot of voice acting to pay for.
Plus, then you've got the moral issue of "well, the OoS does really bad things to these dead pirates. One day, I'll be a dead pirate. Do I want these things done to me? Why should I support these people? How bad IS this?"

  • If anything I suppose it'd be funny if they're just mad that they know you're about to get paid for defeating them. Because that's GOT to be a hit to someone's pride.

  • They already whisper at you earily. I like that more than them possibly talking to me. I would freak out and think other pirates were nearby (solo player).

  • @filthee-mudblud Like I said above, I could see how that would be annoying, but it could be limited to when the skulls are being held, it doesnt have to be constant talking from every single skull you have on-board.

  • Yeah. I just don't think they could ever hire the vocal labor required to fill THAT much time, you know? Think of how long, cumulatively, you've held a skull. That's gotta be a LONG amount of time.

  • Pirate: Oh wow, I killed the captain!

    Picks up skull

Skull: What the hail did you just flipping do to me, you insignificant fool? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the British Privateers, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Ottoman Pirates along with the Spanish Navy, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire Francis Drake armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the Hail out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my words. You think you can get away with saying that crud to me over the Seas? Think again, tucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the Spanish Main and your ship is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re Beyond dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of Francis Drake's Navy and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable face off the face of the continent, you little chick. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” voyage was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you brain dead idiot. I will shoot fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re beyond dead, kiddo!

  • @cheatingpirate I love this! See, this would just be plain fun! Of course, as discussed earlier you could silence this monologue at any time by dropping the skull. Also, holding the skull doesnt guarantee that it WILL start talking, just that it can only possibly start talking once held.

  • Sounds cool on paper, but with the hundreds of skulls you pick up in this game it's bound to become repetitive after a while.

  • @barakye @CheatingPirate Love it, it doesn't even need to be every skull does it, maybe a certain class of skull, the skull fort keys, maybe even randomly, maybe even just one sentence from a huge range of possibilities - things like this become slightly annoying if they're predictable.

  • @katttruewalker Yes, I can certainly understand the annoyance of repetitious phrases being spoken over and over, but I feel that the majority of these phrases don't need to be monologues. Something as simple as, "Put me down!" as an example of something the skulls are most likely going to say, would add more to the game. I welcome the more lengthy stories, but maybe those are rewards for killing a certain captain so you can hear some lore about who he was.

They could also be riddles! Maybe a cross-over into a Gold Hoarder quest, as the skull knows where some treasure is buried. Or the skull could be mutinous, and knows where his captain's final resting place is, just brainstorming. They could add something comical if you mess up the skull's directions, like he calls you a fool or something if you dig at the wrong spots, and overall comments on your progress. Shovel strikes chest"Ooooh, you found it, we're all very impressed." or maybe: "Don't forget my cut!"

I think having them simply sit in your hand, idle, filled with un-dead sorcery is boring. I'd rather them interact and protest, even in a slight manner, to add some character and flavor to the game.

  • @bodhislam sagte in Bounty Skulls Talking:

    Pleeeease https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMi2Il6iRks

That was the first thing that came into my mind: Murray!

Also somehow i could think of this idea being implemented like the talking weapons in Borderlands 2. They have been commenting everything you did (the Bane being the most annoying one of them).

  • It's interesting, but it require a lot of work (writing, traducting in all player language, actors...), that's why NPC don't talk.
But you could use the conversation of others players, on others servers, with a distortion of the voice.
So you would have, sometime, testimony off what happened in other regions...
