Shooting yourself onto another ship

  • Man this is hard. Anyone get this down to a science? I am having a hard time.

  • @happy420pirate - No one does this except by accident. They shoot themselves near the ship (or in the ship's path) ... then swim at the ship's ladder.

Give me another 200 attempts and I'll get back to you @Happy420Pirate

  • I try every chance I get. I've even tried setting my boat to circle a fort while I attempted to land on my boat from the tower cannons. It's easier with them (because they are a solid structure)but I still have yet to make a landing.

  • I think personally if you want to do that your best bet would be to try and grab the ladder to the crows nest on the way by. You can grab ladders while moving at speed.

  • It’s easiest when the ship is pointing toward the cannon you’re coming out of.

  • It's not actually that hard to do. Aim for the mast. That way you can aim high, hit the mast and land on the deck.

  • @happy420pirate I find that after shooting a cannon ball at your target area you can make an easy adjustment to your trajectory (easy is the wrong word.) Aiming to bounce off of something is far better than trying to nail the landing and far more reliable is to aim yourself to just be in an intercept trajectory with the ships ladders.
Shooting yourself to islands is a good way to get better at this and there are two islands with waterfall caves that make it fun to practice, if your so inclined.

  • Let someone else aim.

I can teach you how to slap into the side of another ship, I am great at that!

  • Put some shots down range first to gauge how high to aim and how much you have to lead your shot. Gotta account for your ships movement and the opposing ship, as well as the swaying of the waves. Really no different than just shooting cannonballs at a ship, just aim a bit higher.

  • Shoot a cannonball first and then make your adjustments. Aim for the mast. I’ve done it both times I’ve tried, but that could easily be a fluke with the low amount of attempts.

  • I have caught many a ladder and landed on a fair number of ships without someone else adjusting my pre aimed trajectory. The hardest part is knowing how your own ships movement affects the trajectory, because the momentum of the ship and how it is turning affect whether the cannon shoots straight or not, other than that, you just have to gauge distance, and the speed and direction of the other ship, meaning you may have to lead your shot. I had a lot of practice before launch and my best man cannon shots happened then, but I got the “hold my grog” achievement by landing on a ships bowsprit and barely falling off, and then catching a ladder after. I anchored them and wiped the remaining crew and then guarded the holes while another of my crewmates boarded and they promptly sunk ;)

But anyways lol, if you are having trouble getting the achievement, doing it while moving is much harder so I would recommend just trying to find a parked ship and get somewhat close and at an angle where you can aim lengthwise from the front and have the captains cabin to catch you if you know what I mean.
