Pirate Code Violators

  • So eventually if they haven't already, Rare will probably start enforcing the pirate code. While I don't know to the extent of their enforcement (soft ban, perma ban, whatever) I think they should implement the hanging cages outside of outposts.

Say, a player receives a soft ban for whatever reason they should still be able to login but instead of playing they just get put in an available hanging cage outside an outpost. Their quick chat will be disabled expect for one message that says, "I'm sorry". Depending on the punishment they will have to send out this message so many times in addition to the length of their sentence.

So, if they get a two week soft ban maybe they have to send out 200 apologies too. If they don't send out the messages the sentence is extended until they do. This would be a real consequence to deter bad behavior. You won't just skate through the ban, you will have to work for your freedom.

Basically, you will have too login and send apologies while watching others come and go for outposts and enjoying the game. You won't just be able to wait out your ban and go about your way.

  • @brigadius aside from cheating, the pirate code is more of a meme they posted for laughs.

  • I kinda like the idea.
Only because I want to throw buckets of vomit on another pirate stuck in a cage at an outpost, and all he can say is "I'm sorry".
More fun than watching a fat guy launch out of a cannon.

  • @Brigadius,

I truly enjoy this idea. I won't say make them apologize, but DEFINITELY restrict their auto-chat.

However, asides from the hanging gibbet cage, RARRRE could use the stocks. .. Would having a remote Rock Isle "prison" that players can sail to to explore be workable? No one is being tortured, just imprisoned if they aren't in the stocks or gibbet.

One aspect of contention would be the "name-shaming." RARRRE doesn't promote it in the forums or anywhere RARE LTD affiliated. If the pirate is imprisoned with their name floating overhead, that could be consider as name shaming. ..hopefully, RARRRE could be able to prevent a pirate's name from showing overhead, I wouldn't mind the prisoner being nameless.

  • @barnabas-seadog see that's the spirit.

Upon reflection, rather than a lump sum of apologies maybe have it at so many apologies a day. So, they actually have to login regularly and repent. If they miss a day the sentence just continues until they get all their daily groveling in.

  • @brigadius

March offenders trough the outpost in their skibby's so all can throw buckets of vomit on them. A Grand Marshal will yell out "SHAME",,, followed by a bell,,, DING DING.

    Game of thrones style.

  • These are terrible ideas.

  • This reminds me of an idea I thought of the other day, if they add in a notoriety system for pvp players, there could be a way to capture pirates and bring them to the gallows at the outpost where they committed the pvp crime (if outpost combat wasn’t “allowed” but the game still has the freedom) and then there would be a timer where the rest of the crew would have the chance to go assault the outpost guards (and possibly the capturing crew) to free them, if you are freed you keep your notoriety (which would give a bonus for pvp earned treasure when sold at the pvp pirate outpost, lots of what ifs I know but the game is still empty lol)

Yeah I’m just making things up, but this is the depth I would like, they could add soo much more to this game and I hope they do.

  • So... The only things that will be enforced within SoT are things that violate the Xbox live terms of service. Secondly when Microsoft issues a ban it is kept quiet, they do not publish the gamertags of the offending party. Thirdly Microsoft rarely does soft bans, the banhammer(as Xbox live bans are called) tend to be harsh, Microsoft will not just ban your gamertag, they ban your hardware so no one can use Xbox live from the offending machine, these bans also tend to be permanent.

So don't violate the ToS and everything should be fine.

  • Perhaps three soft bans and you're out.

@brigadius Rather than imposing a sentence term, just keep to the quota of apologies.
But they must be made to actual players not just repeated while nobody else is around.
One apology per player instance would take a hell of a long time.
No names displayed. So to anyone who doesn't know, they could very well be A.I.

I'd also like the idea of throwing vomit buckets at offenders. lol Kind of like the rotten fruit being hurled at criminals in the stockade. For this reason the cages or stockades should be placed near the taverns of all outposts.
However, I can't see it happening.

@captnjaq Your idea of an island prison has greater merit. It could be a huge holding cell (escape proof fortress) but with card games, back gammon, etc. that encourages offenders to cooperate or at least mingle socially.
There would need to be a time limit where the clock countdown only runs while you are being interactive with others.
Hey, "do the crime, do the time".

Dang, this even sounds appealing to me. :)

    L**o, welcome to https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/

  • You people have some issues, I'm glad you're not on the development team.

that is VERY cruel and unusual punishment. Kinda like community service in a way. Oddly enough, why back when, indigent servitude was tossed around (along side prisoners of war, etc).

You're idea massive the prison into a casino lol forcing those foul meanies to play nice. funny in an odd, justicey sort of way.

HOWEVER... one thing could be have they people in the gibbets and stocks outside of the tavern and just bring in the cards, marbles, and die to the tavern. R')

  • Can we merge torture threads? Maybe get a little subcommunity going?

Seriously, if they haven't been added to a list somewhere, we should keep an eye out on them.

    :)

  • Ahoy @gloog!

Personally, keelhauling comes across as true torture, physically violent. Aye, for the most part these suggestions seemed torturous yet the tend toward the passive and silly side.

I don't think we should physically punish a gamer's avatar. Just put them -- for the most part -- in natural situations similar to sitting in a corner. I'm just glad no one has brought up the gallows....

  • I think this would have a super negative outcome.
Dude gets locked in a cage for 2 weeks and now he just makes an alt account (for free) and trolls people intentionally cuz "whatevs, it's just my alt acct bro, chill"

  • So does that mean that if you refuse to settle a dispute on the seas and instead come to the forum to cry about how the bad man sinked your wittle ship, you will get banned and have to send an apology to the guy who sunk you because you cried about it like a w****e instead of settling it on the sea?

I can imagine it now. Dear Pir8, I am sincerely regretful that I am such a w****e. Please forgive me. Warm regards, A sunken crybaby.

  • This may have started out on a serious note but I assure you it was more tongue-in-cheek thereafter.
It's not so much being a "cry baby" to want to play the PvE side of the game without constant aggressive attacks from the same mindless crew. Whether they sink you or you sink them, over and over, it gets old real quick.

People often say things like "the pirate experience", "realism" or "be more piratey" when in fact bad pirates were punished, had bounties placed on them and many outposts were policed.

So which is it? Be more realistic but only if it benefits PvP. "let me do as i please without being punished" Hmm that could be considered as a "cry baby" attitude.

It's no secret that Rare put a lot of effort into the PvE side of the game and absolutely nothing toward the PvP aspect that could be considered strictly PvP. All weapons can be used on skeletons too.

There are other pirate games out there that are strictly PvP and perhaps better suited to your needs.
