Equipment Secondary Actions

  • I've noticed some gear doesnt have secondary actions, so i'd like to suggest some.
Tankard: the tankards secondary action should raise the mug in front of you, and when another pirate does it to you as well, you clunk them together with a satisfying splash.
Treasure Chests: the secondary action raises the chest above your head to offer, impress, or taunt othet pirates of your treasure. Pressing your primary action button while holding it above your head will toss it a couple feet in front of you.
    New Equipment/Weapons:
Boarding hook & reel: Hook and rope, thrown to another ship and then can be reeled in to board the ship, or perhaps to tow a friend. It could also have some other uses in clever hands, such as to scale a cliff, tug an enemy, or assist in a tight turn around something.
Boarding Axe: Melee weapon that can sever ropes (see above) and cause hull damage from the inside a ship.
Club: Can render a pirate unconscious instead of killing them.
Flare Gun: Can be used as a signal when shot into the air and can be seen far away from all around, especially at night. Can also be used as an improvised weapon, setting alight enemies.
Fishing Rod/Fishing Net: Being able to fish while sailing would be a nice addition, allowing you to fill a fish barrel that can later be sold or kept to use for food.
Harpoon: Can be thrown and is good for submerged targets and does high damage to kraken tentacles.

  • I think they'll eventually add a harpoon. They said the kraken will evolve over time so I can imagine 'defeating' a kraken will no longer just mean all the tentacles go under water and the ink disappears but instead you hook it into its skin, keep it in line and pull it above water and brain it with your cannons.
Everyone wants fishing, so I hope it comes to use. secondary use might be to bring something in from afar.
The flare gun is something I've seen mentioned often. There could be many tools to use for long distance communication. Perhaps some sort of megaphone kind of gadget or something, but that's too modern. Semaphore flags? Too complex.
I can see them adding more and more to where it's more than you can carry at one time, given there's currently space for more. I'd almost suggest, when that happens, they add a 'loadout' tab to equipment selection so you can rapidly swap between your 'pvp' loadout vs your 'merchant voyages' loadout vs your 'exploration' or 'navigation' loadouts and the like.
I can imagine perhaps ship equipment like circle nets for fishing or adding swivel guns or something.
I also would imagine different kinds of swords balanced but suited to different playstyles
such as a rapier that's faster, or has a five-swipe combo instead of three, but does notably less damage per swipe so it's more balanced out. Possibly something with a longer lunge, but longer charge time.
Maybe if you hold left trigger it's more of a 'defense stance' and you can press the right trigger to parry, and, if timed right, can knock someone into the 'combo recovery' phase instantly, allowing for counter attack, but if missed, opens the parrying party to attack.
I've been thinking that last one over a while. I was considering making a post about it.

  • @nightmare2772 You get my vote on the Treasure and the Tankard one. Lifting it in the purpose of taunting someone with it.....priceless.
